Ubeda, Cristina published the artcileCombined effects of the vessel type and bottle closure during Chilean Sauvignon Blanc wine storage over its volatile profile, Application In Synthesis of 111-11-5, the main research area is chilean sauvignon blanc wine storage vessel bottle volatile profile; Clay; Natural cork; Polyethylene; Sauvignon Blanc; Screwcap; Stainless steel; Synthetic cork; Volatile compounds; Wine maturation.

A Sauvignon Blanc wine was subjected to a maturation period of six months by using four different types of vessels in triplicate: cylindrical stainless steel tanks, oval-shaped polyethylene tanks, cubic-shaped polyethylene tanks, and clay jars. After maturation in the different vessels, wines were bottled using three different closures (natural cork, synthetic cork, and screwcaps). The volatile compound profiles of the wine samples were recorded by SPME-GC-MS throughout vessel maturation as well as after the bottle storage period. In general terms, wines stored in stainless steel tanks showed the highest contents of volatile compounds when compared with the other tested vessels. Moreover, wines from bottles capped with screwcaps showed the highest contents of most of the volatile compounds when compared with the other closures. Moreover, an interaction between the vessel and the closure was observed: when screwcaps were used during bottle aging, the resulting wines were very similar to those matured in stainless steel vessels. These results suggest that the use of screwcaps hides the differences originating from wine composition during maturation in vessels other than stainless steel.

Peng, Hui published the artcileCotton Fabric-Supported Cationic Acrylate Polymer as an Efficient and Recyclable Catalyst for Williamson Ether Synthesis Reaction in Solid-Liquid-Liquid Phase Transfer Catalysis System, Computed Properties of 142-90-5, the main research area is cotton fabric supported cationic acrylate polymer recyclable catalyst Williamson.

Cotton-based catalytic fabric (CCF) was prepared by the simple padding-drying method with the copolymer of five functional monomers as the modifier and was applied in the solid-liquid-liquid phase-transfer catalysis (SLL-PTC) system. Effects of the structure of the function monomer, the content of the cation, and the loading amount on the catalytic activity of CCF were studied. The lipophilicity, disperse extent of cationic center, and the accessory to the ion for CCF were influenced by the structure and content of the function monomer. The organic phase was adsorbed on the surface of the catalytic fabric, and the novel catalytic cycle in the PTC system was initiated. The anion in the aqueous phase diffuses through the interfacial region to the site for ion exchange. Bond-forming reaction was initiated in the interfacial region between the organic phase on the fabric and the aqueous phase. The conversion rate for Williamson ether synthesis reaction reached 92%, and CCF could be reused five times in this SLL-PTC system.

Tanino, Yuka published the artcileEffect of filter cloths on the relationship between fatty acids and ethyl esters during automatic pressing of sake, Formula: C6H12O3, the main research area is filter cloth fatty acid ethyl ester fermentation volatile compound.

Japanese sake is manufactured via the moromi (fermentation mash)-filtration process using filter cloths. We measured volatile compounds accumulated in used filter cloths and detected many esters, including fatty acid Et esters (FAEEs), suggesting that filter cloths adsorb esters from sake. The profile of volatile compounds trapped in filter cloths differed depending on the material. Moreover, we demonstrated that medium and long-chain FAEEs, but not fatty acids (FAs), were decreased in the initial period of practical automatic pressing. These results indicated that medium and long-chain FAEEs are likely to be adsorbed to filter cloths made of polyethylene terephthalate, which is generally used in automatic pressing. The ratio of FAs to FAEEs with 8 and 10 carbons increased after automatic pressing. This is possibly one reason why organoleptic properties are changed after moromi-filtration.

Gong, Fanghua published the artcileNitazoxanide induced myocardial injury in zebrafish embryos by activating oxidative stress response, Product Details of C12H9N3O5S, the main research area is nitazoxanide myocardial injury embryo oxidative stress; Cardiotoxicity; Nitazoxanide; Oxidative stress; RNA-seq; Zebrafish.

Nitazoxanide (NTZ) is a broad-spectrum antiparasitic and antiviral drug (thiazole). However, although NTZ has been extensively used, there are no reports concerning its toxicol. in vertebrates. This study used the zebrafish as a vertebrate model to evaluate the safety of NTZ and to analyze the related mol. mechanisms. The exptl. results showed that zebrafish embryos exposed to NTZ had cardiac malformation and dysfunction. NTZ also significantly inhibited proliferation and promoted apoptosis in cardiomyocytes. Transcriptomic anal. used compared gene expression levels between zebrafish embryos in the NTZ treatment and the control groups identified 200 upregulated genes and 232 downregulated genes. Anal. by Kyoto encyclopaedia of genes and genomes (KEGG) and gene ontol. (GO) showed that signal pathways on cardiomyocyte development were inhibited while the oxidative stress pathways were activated. Further experiments showed that NTZ increased the content of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in the hearts of zebrafish. Antioxidant gadofullerene nanoparticles (GFNPs) significantly alleviated the developmental toxicity to the heart, indicating that NTZ activated the oxidative stress response to cause embryonic cardiomyocyte injury in zebrafish. This study provides evidence that NTZ causes developmental abnormalities in the cardiovascular system of zebrafish.

Ribolla Gialla (RG) is a white grape variety used in the production of high-quality sparkling wines. It is cultivated in a limited area between Friuli Venezia Giulia (FVG-Northeast Italy) and Slovenia; for this reason, there is little information about the composition and chem. characteristics of the sparkling wines produced. This work used different anal. approaches (FTIR spectroscopy, UHPLC-MS/MS, liquid-liquid extraction, SPE and SPME-GC-MS) to characterize thirty-three com. sparkling RG wines from different areas of FVG. The characteristics included the overall volatile profile and content of terpenes, C13-norisoprenoids, lipids, and metabolites of aromatic amino acids. The aroma profile of RG wines was mainly characterized by fermentative esters and β-damascenone, whereas other norisoprenoids and varietal aromas were below the odor threshold. Appreciable amounts of certain fatty acids were found (e.g., palmitic acid), which could be potentially correlated with greater foam stability. However, high concentrations of aromatic amino acids metabolites highlighted a higher risk of developing atypical aging defects.

Utilization of natural sustainable feedstock to fabricate polymers has attracted remarkable attention. In this work, we reported a strategy to prepare a series of grafted copolymers from rosin, fatty acids and Et cellulose. The process involved the preparation of EC-based macro-RAFT agent through a simple esterification reaction, followed by a “”grafting from”” reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer polymerization (RAFT) of DAGMA (derived from rosin) and LMA (derived from fatty acid) to achieve a class of EC-g-P(DAGMA-co-LMA) graft copolymers with a tunable Tg tuned by the DAGMA/LMA molar ratio. Then, hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI) was used to crosslink these graft copolymers. The mech. and dynamic thermo-mech. properties of tests showed that elastic recovery values of copolymers were enhanced to 90%, as compared to the un-crosslinked samples. Addnl., all these polymers showed an excellent UV absorption performance. This study provides a facile way to fabricate biobased elastomeric materials with improved mech. properties.

Fragrant flowers emit a complex mixture of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that we perceive as pleasant. While we know the chem. nature of these volatiles, the mol. traits that regulate their biosynthesis are poorly understood. In this issue, Tian et al. (2019) compare the transcriptomic and proteomic profiles of a scented genotype of wintersweet (Chimonanthus praecox) with a non-scented one. By correlating the differential gene expression profile with the observed differences in VOC profiles, they attempt to identify the genes that regulate the fragrance of wintersweet.
