A solution of 3 (244 mg, 1 mmol), methyl 4-(aminomethyl)benzoate 8 (198 mg, 1.2 mmol), and N,N-diisopropylethylamine (174 muL, 1 mmol) in n-butanol (10 mL) was refluxed at 130 C for 36 h. Then saturated NaHCO3 (2.5 mL) was added to neutralize the solution. The mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate, the organic layer was combined, dried over anhydrous Na2SO4 and concentrated. The crude product was purified by silica gel chromatography to afford 9 (242 mg, 65% yield). 1H NMR (400 MHz, DMSO-d6) delta: 11.90 (s, 1H), 9.62 (s, 1H), 7.92 (d, J = 7.9 Hz, 2H), 7.82 (s, 1H), 7.45 (d, J = 7.7 Hz, 2H), 6.19 (s, 1H), 5.85 (s, 1H), 4.55 (s, 2H), 3.83 (s, 3H), 2.15 (d, 3H); 13C NMR (100 MHz, DMSO-d6) delta: 166.1, 164.4, 161.7, 160.8, 148.1, 146.1, 138.1, 129.2, 129.1, 127.9, 127.2, 126.9, 95.4, 93.2, 51.9, 43.9, 10.6 ppm.
