Isabel Cadena-Aizaga, M. published the artcileOccurrence and bioconcentration of organic UV filters in primary marine consumers, SDS of cas: 71617-10-2, the main research area is organic UV filter bioconcentration marine environmental pollution.

Organic UV filters are added in different products to absorb UV radiation, whose use has been voiced due to increasing concerning about skin damage. Given their extensive production, these compounds are continuously released to the aquatic environment, which makes them an important family of emerging pollutants. Their presence in the marine environment poses a hazard to the living organisms exposed to them. Primary marine consumers can be recognized as sentinels of pollution in marine environments. In this study, the occurrence of eight widely used organic UV filters was analyzed in five different primary marine consumers from three beaches on the Gran Canaria Island (Spain) collected for 4 mo. For that, a new method, based on microwave-assisted extraction and ultrahigh-performance liquid chromatog. coupled to mass spectrometry in tandem, was optimized and validate. The developed method presented detection limits between 0.7 ng·g-1 dry weight (dw) and 7.1 ng·g-1 dw and intraday and interday precision with ranges from 0.2% to 9.9% and from 1.9% to 12.4%, resp. The method was applied to 20 samples comprising five different types of organisms. All the analyzed samples revealed the presence of organic UV filters, in all samples at least one analyte was determined The highest detection frequency corresponded to Bu methoxydibenzoylmethane (BMDBM) (55%), while octocrylene (OC) was found at the highest concentration (1,735 ng·g-1 dw) in the sea hare Aplysia dactylomela. At the same time, a preliminary bioconcentration and biomagnification assessment was made for the UV filters found in the studied marine organisms. Bioconcentration factors (Log values) over 3.7 were obtained in some cases, which suggests possible bioaccumulation. 4-methylbenzylidene camphor (4MBC) and drometrizole trisiloxane (DTS) obtained a biomagnification factor over 1, which implies potential biomagnification for these compounds

Diabetes-induced oxidative stress can have adverse effects on sperm and its DNA integrity. The Ashrasi date palm (ADP) has potent antioxidant properties. The aim of this study was to evaluate the antioxidant effect of ADP hydroalcoholic extract on sperm parameters and sperm DNA fragmentation in diabetic rats. Forty male rats were randomly divided into five groups (n = 7): 1, control; 2, diabetic; 3-5, diabetic + ADP (30, 90 and 270 mg/kg for groups 3, 4 and 5, resp.). After preparation of ADP extract and its phytochem. screening, it was administered orally to rats, once a day for 5 wk. At the end of the study, sperm parameters and sperm DNA fragmentation in all groups were investigated. At doses of 90 and 270 mg/kg, ADP extract significantly increased the sperm viability compared to diabetic group 2 (p = 0.04 and p = 0.03, resp.) and resulted in a significant decrease in immotile sperm (p = 0.002 and p = 0.006, resp.). At a dose of 270 mg/kg, a considerable enhancement of forward sperm motility was observed (p = 0.04) and there was a significant decrease in sperm DNA fragmentation (p = 0.04). The findings of the present study show for the first time that the hydroalcoholic extract of ADP has protective and antioxidant effects against diabetes-induced oxidative stress and can improve sperm parameters and protect sperm DNA integrity.

Jeong, Soon Yeon published the artcileAntidiabetic Effect of Noodles Containing Fermented Lettuce Extracts, Recommanded Product: Ethyl nonanoate, the main research area is antidiabetic noodle fermented lettuce extract; GC–TOF-MS; antidiabetic effect; fermented lettuce extract; metabolomics; noodles.

The aim of the current study was to examine the antidiabetic effect of noodle containing fermented lettuce extract (FLE) on diabetic mice as a pre-clin. study. The γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) content, antioxidant capacity, and total polyphenol content of the FLE noodles were analyzed and compared with those of standard noodles. In addition, oral glucose and sucrose tolerance, and fasting blood glucose tests were performed using a high-fat diet/streptozotocin-mediated diabetic mouse model. Serum metabolite profiling of mice feed standard or FLE noodles was performed using gas chromatog.-time-of-flight mass spectrometry (GC-TOF-MS) to understand the mechanism changes induced by the FLE noodles. The GABA content, total polyphenols, and antioxidant activity were high in FLE noodles compared with those in the standard noodles. In vivo experiments also showed that mice fed FLE noodles had lower blood glucose levels and insulin resistance than those fed standard noodles. Moreover, glycolysis, purine metabolism, and amino acid metabolism were altered by FLE as determined by GC-TOF-MS-based metabolomics. These results demonstrate that FLE noodles possess significant antidiabetic activity, suggesting the applicability of fermented lettuce extract as a potential food additive for diabetic food products.

Le, Xiaoxia published the artcileFluorescent Organohydrogel with Thermal-Induced Color Change for Anti-counterfeiting, Recommanded Product: Dodecyl 2-methylacrylate, the main research area is acrylic fluorescent hydrogel color change anticounterfeiting.

Smart fluorescent patterns enable dynamic color variation under external stimuli, showing a much higher security level in the field of anti-counterfeiting. However, there is still lacking of a simple and convenient way to achieve dynamic fluorescence changes. Herein, a fluorescent organohydrogel made up of a poly(N,N-dimethylacrylamide-co-isopropylacrylamide) (p(DMA-NIPAM)) hydrogel network and a poly(lauryl methacrylate) (PLMA) organogel network was fabricated via a two-step interpenetrating technique. The former network bears naphthalimide moieties (DEAN, green fluorescent monomer) and the later contains 6-acrylamidopicolinic acid (6APA, fluorescent ligand), leading to emitting green fluorescence. When Eu3+ was introduced and coordinated with 6APA, the organohydrogel displays red fluorescence, which can further emit yellow after applying thermal stimulus. Furthermore, by adjusting the proportion of comonomers, various organohydrogels can be obtained, which can be programmed and act as an effective platform for the encryption and decryption of secret information.

Molnar, Bela Peter published the artcileDevelopment of a Female-Targeted Lure for the Box Tree Moth Cydalima perspectalis (Lepidoptera: Crambidae): a Preliminary Report, Related Products of esters-buliding-blocks, the main research area is Cydalima bisexual lure flower volatile; Bisexual lure; Flower volatiles; Invasive pest; Pheromone; Trapping.

In this study, we aimed to develop a “”bisexual”” lure to attract both female and male moths. Based on a previous screening bioassay we tested Me salicylate, phenylacetaldehyde and eugenol as potential attractants in different combinations. The trapping results showed that both binary and ternary blends attracted male and female moths. Catches with these blends were comparable to catches with the synthetic pheromone. Subsequently we carried out single sensillum recordings, which proved the peripheral detection of the above-mentioned compounds on male and female antennae. To identify synergistic flower volatiles, which can be also attractive and can increase the trap capture, we collected flower headspace volatiles from 12 different flowering plant species. Several components of the floral scents evoked good responses from antennae of both females and males in gas chromatog.-electroantennog. detection. The most active components were tentatively identified by gas chromatog. coupled mass spectrometry as benzaldehyde, cis-ss-ocimene, (±)-linalool and phenethyl alc. These selected compounds in combination did not increase significantly the trap capture compared to the Me salicylate- phenyacetaldehyde blend. Based on these results we discovered the first attractive blend, which was able to attract both adult male and female C. perspectalis in field conditions.

The τ-Fluvalinate (fluvalinate) is a highly selective pyrethroid insecticide compound used for controlling ectoparasitic mites that cause major damages in honey bee colonies. Although honey bees have resistance and low toxicity to this xenobiotic chem., little is known about the effects of this chem. on sensory modulation and behaviors in honey bees. Here we addressed the effect on olfactory cognition at the behavioral, mol., and neurophysiol. levels. First, we found that topical application of fluvalinate to honeybee abdomen elicited somewhat severe toxicity to honey bees. Furthermore, honeybees treated with sublethal doses of fluvalinate showed a significant decrease in olfactory responses. At the mol. level, there was no change in gene expression levels of odorant receptor co-receptor (Orco), which is important for elec. conductivity induced by odorant binding in insects. Rather, small neuropeptide F (sNPF) signaling pathway was involved in olfactory fluctuation after treatment of fluvalinate. This indicates that olfactory deficits by abdominal contact of fluvalinate may stem from various internal mol. pathways in honey bees.
