Summary : The present study aimed to evaluate the effect of the direct liquefaction of macroalgae in an autoclave reactor (50 mL) possessing water and ethanol as cosolvent. The reaction conditions such as duration, temperature, algae/solvent ratio, the composition of cosolvent (ethanol-water) on product distribution, and bio-oil characterization were studied. The optimum conditions such as 300°C of temperature, 45 min of reaction time, 75% of ethanol, and algae to solvent ratio of 4/40 g/mL supported the bio-oil yield of 46.75% with a conversion rate of 95.5%. The composition and concentration of the compounds in the bio-oil produced under various doses of catalyst were described using GC-MS. The bio-oil characterization showed that the esters were most predominant in hydrothermal liquefaction with a catalyst (HZSM-5) compared with hydrothermal liquefaction in the absence of the catalyst.

In this study, the pit mud used in manufacturing Taorong-type Baijiu was collected from the upper, middle, lower and bottom layers of pits at Henan Yangshao Liquor Co., LTD. High-throughput sequencing (HTS) technol. was used to analyze the microbial community structure of the pit mud. In addition, the volatile compounds in the pit mud were subjected to preliminary qual. anal. through headspace-solid phase microextraction and gas chromatog.-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The HTS results demonstrated that there were 5, 3, 5 and 5 dominant bacterial phyla (including 11, 11, 9 and 8 dominant bacterial genera) and 3, 3, 3 and 3 dominant fungal phyla (including 4, 7, 7 and 5 dominant fungal genera) in the pit mud from the F-S (upper), G-Z (middle), H-X (lower) and I-D (bottom) layers, resp. In the qual. anal. of the volatile compounds, a total of 77types of volatile compounds were detected in the pit mud, including 46, 45, 39 and 49 types in the pit mud from layers F-S, G-Z, H-X and I-D, resp. Esters and acids were the two main components of the pit mud. The correlation between the microorganisms present and the main volatile compounds in the pit mud was analyzed. Lentimicrobium, Syner-01 and Blvii28_wastewater-sludge groups were found for the first time in pit mud used for manufacturing Taorong-type Baijiu. The findings of this study could provide a theor. foundation for improving the quality of pit mud and the flavor of Taorong-type Baijiu.

It was proposed that the large photoluminescence enhancement of QDs was induced by the synergistic effect of LCs/polymer composite and TiO2 nanoparticles possessing 150 nm particle size and 0.1 wt% loading content. The enhancement factor of QDs-doped TiO2/LCs/polymer nanocomposite film was approx. 6-fold relative to the QDs-doped polymer. Moreover, this nanocomposite film enabled to realize elec. tuning of photoluminescence intensity and be prepared by a facile UV polymerization and large-scale manner. Furthermore, the excellent mech. properties nearly remained unchanged doping 0.1 wt% TiO2 in this LCs/polymer composite.

However, for LCDs with wide viewing angles, some private information inevitably becomes more visible; thus, an LCD with a switchable viewing angle has attracted greater interest. Here, we report a novel switchable viewing angle film that can make the viewing angle of an LCD elec. switchable between ±30° and ±60°, i.e. between an anti-peeping mode and a share mode, by 5.0 V is turned on and off, resp. The response time necessary to change between the modes is in milliseconds. It is believed that it has potential applications in LCDs with high quality.

The poor cold flow property is one of the main obstacle factors in affecting the utilization of high proportion biodiesel blends in engines. In this study, methylcyclohexyl methacrylate-methacrylate copolymers (MCHMA-R1MC, R1 = C12, C14, C16, C18) were synthesized at various molar ratios by radical polymerization, and their structures were analyzed and characterized by FTIR, GPC, and 1H NMR. These resulting copolymers were used as the cold flow improvers for biodiesel/diesel blends in terms of cold filter plugging point (CFPP) and solid point (SP) measurement. Results showed that the CFPP and SP of B20 decreased to a varied extent after MCHMA-R1MC treatment. When the monomer ratio of was 1:7, MCHMA-C14MC (1:7) exhibited the greatest reduction on the CFPP and SP of B20 by 18 °C and 25 °C at 2000 ppm dosage. The effects of MCHMA-R1MC copolymers on crystallization behavior and morphol. were studied through polarizing optical microscope, differential scanning calorimetry and viscosity-temperature curves. The results indicated that MCHMA-C14MC could effectively delay the aggregation of wax crystals and change their crystalline behavior by changing the crystal shapes and inhibiting the formation of large wax crystals and then lower the low-temperature viscosity of biodiesel blends; therefore, MCHMA-C14MC has proven to be a high-effective cold flow improver for the biodiesel blends.

Adding more biodiesel in petrochem. diesel is one of the effective methods to alleviate the global petrochem. energy shortage, but the high-proportional biodiesel-diesel blends are always limited by the poor cold flow properties. To address this issue, a series of alkyl methacrylate-norbornene anhydride copolymers (CnMC-NA, n = 12, 14, 16, 18) with different molar ratios were synthesized as pour point depressants for B30 (30 vol% biodiesel + 70 vol% diesel). Results showed that C14MC-NA (6:1) presented the best depressive effects at 0.2 wt% dosage, and the cloud point (CP), cold filter plugging point (CFPP) and pour point (PP) of B30 have reduced by 3, 9 and 10 °C, resp. To further improve their depressive efficiency, nine kinds of alcs. were optimized and grafted modification with C14MC-NA (6:1). The effect of these alcoholysis modified copolymers on CP, CFPP and PP of B30 were systematic researched. Results indicated that long-chain alcs. modified C14MC-NA exhibited better depressive effects on B30 than that of aromatic alcs. and short-chain alcs. Among that, C14MC-NA-C14at 0.15 wt% dosage exhibited the best reduction on CP, CFPP and PP of B30 by 5, 12 and 15 °C, resp. Addnl., the mechanism was discussed by polarizing optical microscopy, rheol. anal., differential scanning calorimeter and low-temperature x-ray diffractometer.

Solar evaporation is an effective means to solve the scarce of fresh water resources. The developed solar evaporator has the disadvantages of low evaporation rate, poor mech. performance, difficulty in long-term evaporation, and insufficient water purification capacity. Herein, we have developed a core-shell structure hydrogel solar evaporator taking MXene/PDA as the photothermal material. The hydrogel matrix possesses self-healing and remoldability, which is sustainable and in line with the theme of current material development. The prepared core-shell structure hydrogel showed excellent properties, with a compressive stress of 0.4 MPa and the evaporation rate is as high as 3.02 kg m-2 h-1, and the evaporation efficiency is 94.7% under 1 sun illumination, which is better than most of the previously reported solar evaporators. Through the durability experiment in simulated seawater, the long-term desalination ability was verified. Simultaneously, the solar evaporator also exhibits various functions such as dye resistance, and heavy metal ion resistance. The core-shell structure solar evaporator shows great potential in long-term seawater desalination and water purification Furthermore, it provides a promising strategy for the structural design of solar evaporators in the future.

To achieve prolonged and sustainable release of copper ion in Cu2O-containing marine coatings, poly(lauryl methacrylate)-b-poly(2-(N,N-dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate) (PLMA-b-PDMAEMA) diblock copolymers with different block ratios and mol. weights were synthesized by atom-transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) method. It was proved that the copolymers are able to coordinate with copper ion. And the surface wettability tests showed that the amphiphilic copolymers may undergo structure change in seawater. Taking advantage of the structure transformation and copper coordination abilities, the copolymer was employed to encapsulate Cu2O for the preparation of antifouling coatings. A controllable and continuous release of copper ion from Cu2O/copolymer coatings was then obtained. More importantly, it showed that higher PLMA/PDMAEMA block ratio exhibited better bactericidal rate. Actually, the bactericidal ability of the coating depends on the time duration of copper ion on the surface instead of the hydrolysis speed of the coating, in other words, the hydrophobic interaction of PLMA with the resin may play a major role in the antifouling performance of the marine coating. Self-polishing coatings Cu2O/copolymer/polycaprolactone (PCL) were then prepared and applied for marine field test, the antifouling performances were proved to be comparable to that of the com. available self-polishing coatings.

Cesium lead halide perovskite nanocrystals (NCs) have gained enormous attention as promising light-emitting and light-converting materials. Most of their applications require embedding NCs in various matrixes, which is a challenging task due to their low stability, especially in the case of red-emitting CsPbI3 NCs. In this work, a new approach is proposed allowing the formation of red-emitting perovskite NCs by anion exchange induced directly inside a solid polymer matrix using green-emitting CsPbBr3 NCs as templates and iodododecane as an iodine source. Moreover, a simple and efficient route to photo-assisted termination of the anion exchange reaction in the polymer composite after reaching desired optical properties is demonstrated. Currently, robust and functional hydrogels have attracted extensive attention due to their potential applications in wastewater treatment, farmland water conservation and other fields. Herein, a series of hydrophobic association hydrogels assisted by titanium dioxide (TiO2) was fabricated via one-pot in situ photo-induced polymerization TiO2 nanoparticles could act as both photo-initiators and phys. crosslinking points. The TiO2-assisted hydrophobic association hydrogels exhibited a high tensile strength of 306 kPa, superior compression strength of 2.17 MPa and excellent fatigue resistance. Simultaneously, the incorporation of TiO2 endowed the hydrogel with photocatalytic capacity for dye wastewater treatment based on the inherent nature of TiO2. The results indicated that the hydrogels contributed to the degradation of various ionic dyes including methylene blue, rhodamine B and bromophenol blue, and the removal of methylene blue achieved a rate of 96.63%. Significantly, the hydrogel could be repeatedly utilized and the removal rate showed no evident decrease after five cycles, indicating that the hydrogels could be powerful candidates as photocatalysts for dye wastewater treatment.
