A massive quantity of organic waste is generated globally. Despite its detrimental impacts on all environmental media (soil, water, and air), a sustainable valorization platform for organic waste has not been fully developed. In an effort to reduce the tech. gap, this study placed great emphasis on a new valorization route employing the conversion of food/agricultural waste to biodiesel (BD). In this study, the yellow mealworm larvae (MW) were grown on piles of wheat bran to convert carbohydrates to fat through its fast metabolism The ultimate aim was to enhance the economic viability of BD by producing fat from food/agricultural waste. Fat from MW larvae were then converted to BD through the non-catalytic conversion (authors-invented) process. As a reference, conventional acid/base-catalyzed transesterification of fat from MW larvae was also made. The conventional conversion process revealed a BD yield of 48.55 wt%, which was attributed to the high content of moisture and impurities in the MW extract The non-catalytic conversion process of MW extract showed a BD yield of 87.75 wt% in 1 min at 370鎺矯, showing an extraordinarily high tolerance against water and impurities. The non-catalytic reaction also allowed the in-situ conversion of fat in MW to BD even at 320鎺矯 without fat extraction The enhanced reaction kinetics could be due to the catalytic effects of the alk. earth metals in MW.

This study presents a potential approach to enhance integrated sequential biohydrogen production from waste biomass using magnetite nanoparticle (Fe3O4 NPs) which is synthesized through waste seeds of Syzygium cumini. Consequences of 0.5% Fe3O4 NPs have been investigated on the thermal and pH stability of fungal crude cellulase. It is noticed that Fe3O4 NPs treated enzyme and control exhibits 100% activity in the temperature range of 45-60鎺矯 and 45-55鎺矯, resp. Moreover, Fe3O4 NPs treated enzyme showed extended thermal stability in the temperature range of 50-60鎺矯 up to 12 h. Beside this, Fe3O4 NPs treated enzyme possesses 100% stability in the pH range of 5.0-7.0 whereas control exhibited only at pH 6.0. Enzymic hydrolysis via Fe3O4 NPs treated enzyme has been employed which produces é–?8.0 g/L reducing sugars from sugarcane bagasse. Subsequently, sugar hydrolyzate has been utilized as substrate in the sequential integrated fermentation that produces é–?427.0 mL/L cumulative hydrogen after 408 h. This approach may have potential for the pilot scale production of biohydrogen from waste biomass at low-cost in an eco-friendly manner.

Twenty-five of the identified compounds were detected for the first time in the pomelo peel extracts Results suggested that the pomelo peels of C. grandis cv. Shatianyou contained the most natural chem. compositions The pooled result may offer scientific evidence for further development and utilization of pomelo peels and a route for screening appropriate varieties for various demands.

Biomass from oil palm frond leaves (OPFL) is an excellent reservoir of lignocellulosic material which full potential remains untapped. This study aimed to statistically optimize the covalent immobilization of Candida rugosa lipase (CRL) onto a ternary support comprised of OPFL derived nanocellulose (NC) and montmorillonite (MMT) in alginate (ALG) (CRL-ALG/NC/MMT). The coarser topol. and the presence of characteristic spherical globules in the field emission scanning electron micrographs and at. force micrographs, resp., supported the existence of CRL on ALG/NC/MMT. In addition, amide peaks at 3478 and 1640 cm-1 in the fourier transform IR spectra affirmed that CRL was covalently bonded to ALG/NC/MMT. The optimized Taguchi Design-assisted immobilization of CRL onto ALG/NC/MMT (7 h of immobilization, 35鎺矯, pH 5, 7 mg/mL protein loading) gave a production yield of 92.89% of Et levulinate (EL), as proven by gas chromatog.-mass spectrometric ([M] +m/z 144, C7H12O3), FTIR and NMR (CAS-539-88-8) data. A higher optimal reaction temperature (50鎺矯) and the reusability of CRL-ALG/NC/MMT for up to 9 esterification cycles substantiated the appreciable structural rigidification of the biocatalyst by ALG/NC/MMT, which improved the catalytic activity and thermal stability of the lipase.

To achieve a sustainable bioeconomy, various bioderived additives have been developed to produce biocomposites, but only a handful of research on biocomposites focuses on the effect of bioderived additives on interpenetrating polymer networks (IPNs). This study is aimed at understanding the interaction between bioadditives and interpenetrating polymer networks and is the first study to build the relationship between bioadditive ratio and damping factor based on dynamic mech. anal. The IPNs were prepolymerized in bulk by isocyanate and poly(oxypropylene) polyol (PPG) with two different mol. weights (PPG 700 and PPG 1000), and then, they were grafted with bisphenol A diglycidyl ether epoxy. The bioadditives were prepared from agricultural waste, sugarcane bagasse, and the effect of the coupling agent 3- glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane on a bioadditive surface was also discussed in this study. The results show that modified bioadditives have significant enhancement on tensile strength and tensile modulus of polyurethane-grafted epoxy resin interpenetrating polymer networks (PU(PPG)-EP graft-IPNs). However, the enhancement is not from a strong covalent bond between matrix and additives, i.e., due to the well-dispersed bioadditives which provide stiff segments. The static and dynamic mech. performance, water absorption ratio, and morphol. of the (PU(PPG)-EP graft-IPNs) elastomers were also thoroughly discussed in this study.

This study sought to determine the dominant circulating human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) subtype and associated drug resistance mutations in Ghana.This cross-sectional study was conducted with archived samples collected from patients who received care at 2 hospitals in Ghana from 2014 to 2016. Blood samples were earlier processed into plasma and peripheral blood mononuclear cells and stored at -80鎺矯. RNA (RNA) was extracted from the archived plasma. Two HIV-1 genes; protease and reverse transcriptase, were amplified, sequenced using gene-specific primers and analyzed for subtype and drug resistance mutations using the Stanford HIV Database.Of 16 patient samples successfully sequenced, we identified the predominance of HIV-1 subtype CRF02_AG (11/16, 68%). Subtypes G (2/16, 13%), dual CRF02_AG/G (2/16, 13%), and CRF01_AE (1/16, 6%) were also observed Major nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NRTI) resistance mutations, M184I/V, D67N, T215F, and K70R/E were found. Non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NNRTI) resistance mutations, K103N, Y181C, V90I, F227L, and V106A were also prevalent. Addnl., and at a lower level, protease inhibitor (PI)-resistance mutations, M46I, I54V, V82A, L90M, and I471V, were also present in the sequences from antiretroviral therapy (ART)-experienced individuals. Two NRTI-associated drug resistance mutations (DRMs) (D67N and T69N) were present in sequences from 1 ART-naive individual.HIV-1 subtype CRF02_AG was most frequently detected in this study thus confirming earlier reports of dominance of this subtype in the West-African sub-region and Ghana in particular. The detection of these drug resistance mutations in individuals on first-line regimen composed of NRTI and NNRTI is an indication of prolonged drug exposure without viral load monitoring. Routine viral load monitoring is necessary for early detection of virol. failure and drug resistance testing will inform appropriate choice of regimens for such patients.
