BACKGROUND: We assessed the usefulness of circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) pre- or post-treatment initiation for outcome prediction and treatment monitoring in metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC). METHODS: Droplet digital PCR was used to measure absolute mutant V-Ki-ras2 Kirsten rat sarcoma viral oncogene ((mut)KRAS) ctDNA concentrations in 214 healthy controls (plasma and sera) and in 151 tissue-based mutKRAS positive patients with mCRC from the prospective multicenter phase 3 trial AIO KRK0207. Serial mutKRAS ctDNA was analyzed prior to and 2-3 weeks after first-line chemotherapy initiation with fluoropyrimidine, oxaliplatin, and bevacizumab in patients with mCRC and correlated with clinical parameters. RESULTS: mut KRAS ctDNA was detected in 74.8% (113/151) of patients at baseline and in 59.6% (90/151) at follow-up. mutKRAS ctDNA at baseline and follow-up was associated with poor overall survival (OS) (hazard ratio [HR] =1.88, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.20-2.95; HR = 2.15, 95% CI 1.47-3.15) and progression-free survival (PFS) (HR = 2.53, 95% CI 1.44-4.46; HR = 1.90, 95% CI 1.23-2.95), respectively. mutKRAS ctDNA clearance at follow-up conferred better disease control (P = 0.0075), better OS (log-rank P = 0.0018), and PFS (log-rank P = 0.0018). Measurable positive mutKRAS ctDNA at follow-up was the strongest and most significant independent prognostic factor on OS in multivariable analysis (HR = 2.31, 95% CI 1.40-3.25). CONCLUSIONS: Serial analysis of circulating mutKRAS concentrations in mCRC has prognostic value. Post treatment mutKRAS concentrations 2 weeks after treatment initiation were associated with therapeutic response in multivariable analysis and may be an early response predictor in patients receiving first-line combination chemotherapy. Sedney, Cara L’s team published research in The journal of spinal cord medicine in 2018-12-03 | CAS: 140-11-4

The journal of spinal cord medicine published new progress about Health outcomes; Insurance disparities; Rehabilitation; Spinal cord injury; West Virginia. 140-11-4 belongs to class esters-buliding-blocks, name is Benzyl acetate, and the molecular formula is C9H10O2, Synthetic Route of 140-11-4.

Sedney, Cara L published the artcileTraumatic spinal cord injury in West Virginia: Disparities by insurance and discharge disposition from an acute care hospital., Synthetic Route of 140-11-4, the main research area is Health outcomes; Insurance disparities; Rehabilitation; Spinal cord injury; West Virginia.

Context: Medicaid has been linked to worse outcomes in a variety of diagnoses such as lung cancer, uterine cancer, and cardiac valve procedures. It has furthermore been linked to the reduced health-related quality of life outcomes after traumatic injuries when compared to other insurance groups. In spinal cord injury (SCI), the care provided in the subacute setting may vary based upon payor status, which may have implications on outcomes and cost of care.Design: A retrospective review utilizing the institutional trauma databank was performed for all adult patients with spinal cord injury since 2009. Pediatric patients were excluded. Insurance type, race, length of stay, discharge status (alive/dead), discharge disposition, injury severity score (ISS), and hospital charges billed were recorded. Results: Two hundred patients were identified. Overall 27.5% of patients with SCI during the period of our review were Medicaid beneficiaries. ISS was similar between Medicaid and non-Medicaid patients, but the Medicaid beneficiaries were younger (37 vs 50 years of age; P < .001). Medicaid beneficiaries had a significantly longer length of stay (20.9 days; P < .001) when compared to all other patients. They furthermore were more likely to be discharged home or to a skilled nursing facility rather than an acute rehabilitation center. Inpatient charges billed for Medicaid beneficiaries were significantly higher than those of non-Medicaid patients (203,264 USD vs 140,114 USD; P = .015), likely reflecting the increased length of stay while awaiting appropriate disposition. Conclusion: Medicaid patients with SCI in West Virginia had a longer hospital stay, higher charges billed, and were more likely to be discharged home or to a skilled nursing facility rather than an acute rehabilitation center, when compared to non-Medicaid patients. The lack of availability of rehabilitation facilities for Medicaid beneficiaries likely explains this difference. Rubin, Leah H’s team published research in The American journal of clinical nutrition in 2021-07-01 | CAS: 123-29-5

The American journal of clinical nutrition published new progress about HIV; cohort studies; diet; food; neuropsychological assessment; nutrition; risk factors in epidemiology. 123-29-5 belongs to class esters-buliding-blocks, name is Ethyl nonanoate, and the molecular formula is C11H22O2, Category: esters-buliding-blocks.

Rubin, Leah H published the artcileDietary intake is associated with neuropsychological impairment in women with HIV., Category: esters-buliding-blocks, the main research area is HIV; cohort studies; diet; food; neuropsychological assessment; nutrition; risk factors in epidemiology.

BACKGROUND: Diet is a modifiable risk factor that may influence cognition in people with HIV. OBJECTIVES: We examined the association between dietary intake and cognition in women with HIV (WWH) and HIV-seronegative women. METHODS: An 18-item dietary National Cancer Institute screener was completed by 729 WWH and 346 HIV-seronegative Women’s Interagency HIV Study participants. Daily intake frequencies of processed meats, sweet beverages, fish, whole milk, and vegetables were calculated. Participants completed biennial neuropsychological (NP) testing. NP domains included attention/working memory, executive function, processing speed, memory, learning, fluency, and motor function. NP impairment was defined as demographically adjusted T-scores (mean = 50; SD = 10) ≤40 at ≥1 visit after completing the dietary screener. Multivariable logistic regression, stratified by HIV serostatus, examined associations between intake frequency tertile (referent = lowest intake) and NP performance. RESULTS: Dietary intake frequencies of individual food line items were similar between WWH and HIV-seronegative women, except for sweet beverages, for which HIV-seronegative women reported higher intake frequencies than WWH (P values < 0.05). In WWH, multivariable-adjusted models indicated higher odds of NP impairment with higher intake frequencies of processed meat [P = 0.006; ORupper tertile = 1.91 (95% CI: 1.23-2.95; P = 0.003); ORmiddle tertile = 1.66 (95% CI: 1.14-2.42; P = 0.01)], sweet beverages [P = 0.02; ORupper tertile = 1.75 (95% CI: 1.17-2.64; P = 0.007)], fish [P = 0.01; ORupper tertile = 1.70 (95% CI: 1.10-2.64; P = 0.02)], and whole milk [P = 0.029; ORupper tertile = 1.66 (95% CI: 1.14-2.42; P = 0.008)]. Lower odds of NP impairment [P = 0.005; ORupper tertile = 0.65 (95% CI: 0.45-0.95; P = 0.02); ORmiddle tertile = 0.42 (95% CI: 0.24-0.73; P = 0.002)] were associated with higher vegetable intakes. In HIV-seronegative women, multivariable-adjusted models did not show associations between food line items/diet quality score and NP outcomes. CONCLUSIONS: Intakes of processed meat, sweet beverages, whole milk, fish, and vegetables may be associated with NP functions among WWH. Associations among WWH are not directly comparable to those among HIV-seronegative women, because models were conducted on each group separately given controls for HIV-specific covariates in WWH. Further studies are needed using more rigorous dietary assessment methods and lengthier longitudinal follow-ups. Sileo, F G’s team published research in Ultrasound in obstetrics & gynecology in 2022 | CAS: 110-42-9

Ultrasound in obstetrics & gynecology published new progress about MRI; bleeding; fetus; hemorrhage; intracranial; prenatal diagnosis; ultrasound. 110-42-9 belongs to class esters-buliding-blocks, name is Methyl decanoate, and the molecular formula is C11H22O2, Category: esters-buliding-blocks.

Sileo, F G published the artcilePerinatal and long-term outcome of fetal intracranial hemorrhage: systematic review and meta-analysis., Category: esters-buliding-blocks, the main research area is MRI; bleeding; fetus; hemorrhage; intracranial; prenatal diagnosis; ultrasound.

OBJECTIVE: Fetal intracranial hemorrhage (ICH) is associated with an increased risk of perinatal mortality and morbidity. Healthcare professionals often find it challenging to counsel parents due to its rarity and diverse presentation. The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to investigate the perinatal outcome of fetuses with ICH. METHODS: MEDLINE, EMBASE, ClinicalTrials.gov and The Cochrane Library databases were searched. Inclusion criteria were studies reporting the outcome of fetuses, newborns and infants diagnosed with ICH. The primary outcome was perinatal death (PND), defined as the sum of intrauterine (IUD) and neonatal death (NND). The secondary outcomes were stillbirth, NND, IUD, termination of pregnancy, need for surgery/shunting at birth, cerebral palsy (defined according to the European Cerebral Palsy Network and classified as diplegia, hemiplegia, quadriplegia, dyskinetic or mixed), neurodevelopmental delay and intact survival. All outcomes were explored in the included fetuses with ICH. A subgroup analysis according to the location of the hemorrhage (intra-axial and extra-axial) was also planned. Meta-analysis of proportions was used to combine data, and pooled proportions and their 95% CI were reported. RESULTS: Sixteen studies (193 fetuses) were included in the meta-analysis. PND occurred in 14.6% (95% CI, 7.3-24.0%) of fetuses with ICH. Among liveborn cases, 27.6% (95% CI, 12.5-45.9%) required shunt placement or surgery after birth and 32.0% (95% CI, 22.2-42.6%) had cerebral palsy. Furthermore, 16.7% (95% CI, 8.4-27.2%) of cases had mild neurodevelopmental delay, while 31.1% (95% CI, 19.0-44.7%) experienced severe adverse neurodevelopmental outcome. Normal neurodevelopmental outcome was reported in 53.6% of fetuses. Subgroup analysis according to the location of ICH showed that PND occurred in 13.3% (95% CI, 5.7-23.4%) of fetuses with intra-axial bleeding and 26.7% (95% CI, 5.3-56.8%) of those with extra-axial bleeding. In fetuses with intra-axial hemorrhage, 25.2% (95% CI, 11.0-42.9%) required shunt placement or surgery after birth and 25.5% (95% CI, 15.3-37.2%) experienced cerebral palsy. In fetuses with intra-axial hemorrhage, mild and severe neurodevelopmental delay was observed in 14.9% (95% CI, 12.0-27.0%) and 32.8% (95% CI, 19.8-47.4%) of cases, respectively, while 53.2% (95% CI, 37.0-69.1%) experienced normal neurodevelopmental outcome. The incidence of mortality and postnatal neurodevelopmental outcome in fetuses with extra-axial hemorrhage could not be estimated reliably due to the small number of cases. CONCLUSIONS: Fetuses with a prenatal diagnosis of ICH are at high risk of perinatal mortality and adverse neurodevelopmental outcome. Postnatal shunt placement or surgery was required in 28% of cases and cerebral palsy was diagnosed in approximately one-third of infants. Due to the rarity of ICH, multicenter prospective registries are warranted to collect high-quality data. © 2021 International Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology.

The oxyselenide Sm3GaSe5O was prepared by reaction of Sm2O3, Sm, Ga2Se3, and Se at 950 °C. It adopts a new monoclinic structure type (space group P21/m, a = 11.042(9) Å, b = 3.9761(3) Å, c = 21.2458(17) Å, β = 92.2436(14)°, Z = 4) built up of Sm-Se, Sm-O, and Ga-Se blocks. GaSe5 trigonal bipyramids, which are unprecedented, are the most unusual feature of this structure. Electronic structure calculations corroborate the occurrence of primarily ionic bonding within the Sm-Se and Sm-O blocks and covalent bonding within the Ga-Se blocks. Optical measurements reveal a nearly direct band gap of 1.2 eV, narrower than those of many other oxychalcogenides.

Ferreira, Lorena Lopes’s team published research in Ticks and tick-borne diseases in 2019-02-16 | CAS: 106-32-1

Ticks and tick-borne diseases published new progress about (E)-2-octenal; Allomone; Amblyomma cajennense sensu lato; Donkey; Non-host; Repellent. 106-32-1 belongs to class esters-buliding-blocks, name is Ethyl octanoate, and the molecular formula is C10H20O2, Name: Ethyl octanoate.

Ferreira, Lorena Lopes published the artcileIdentification of a non-host semiochemical from tick-resistant donkeys (Equus asinus) against Amblyomma sculptum ticks., Name: Ethyl octanoate, the main research area is (E)-2-octenal; Allomone; Amblyomma cajennense sensu lato; Donkey; Non-host; Repellent.

Amblyomma sculptum is a tick affecting animal and human health across Argentina, Bolivia, Paraguay and Brazil. Donkeys, Equus asinus, are known to be resistant to A. sculptum, suggesting that they can produce non-host tick semiochemicals (allomones), as already demonstrated for some other vertebrate host/pest interactions, whereas horses, Equus caballus, are considered as susceptible hosts. In this study, we tested the hypothesis that donkeys produce natural repellents against A. sculptum, by collecting sebum from donkeys and horses, collecting the odour from sebum extracts, and identifying donkey-specific volatile compounds by gas chromatography (GC) and coupled GC-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). From the complex collected blends, five main compounds were identified in both species. Hexanal, heptanal and (E)-2-decenal were found predominantly in donkey extracts, whilst ethyl octanoate and ethyl decanoate were found predominantly in horse extracts. One compound, (E)-2-octenal, was detected exclusively in donkey extracts. In Y-tube olfactometer bioassays 36 different A. sculptum nymphs were tested for each extract, compound and concentration. The dry sebum extracts and the compounds identified in both species induced neither attraction nor repellency. Only (E)-2-octenal, the donkey-specific compound, displayed repellency, with more nymphs preferring the arm containing the solvent control when the compound was presented in the test arm across four concentrations tested (p < 0.05, Chi-square test). A combination of a tick attractant (ammonia) and (E)-2-octenal at 0.25 M also resulted in preference for the control arm (p < 0.05, Chi-square test). The use of semiochemicals (allomones) identified from less-preferred hosts in tick management has been successful for repelling brown dog ticks, Rhipicephalus sanguineus sensu lato from dog hosts. These results indicate that (E)-2-octenal could be used similarly to interfere in tick host location and be developed for use in reducing A. sculptum numbers on animal and human hosts. Lu, Z Kevin published the artcileGender Disparities in Anti-dementia Medication Use among Older Adults: Health Equity Considerations and Management of Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias., Computed Properties of 123-29-5, the main research area is ADRD; alzheimer’s disease and related diseases; anti-dementia medications; gender disparities; medicare.

Objective: The prevalence of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias (ADRD) in women is higher than men. However, the knowledge of gender disparity in ADRD treatment is limited. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the gender disparities in the receipt of anti-dementia medications among Medicare beneficiaries with ADRD in the U.S. Methods: We used data from the Medicare Current Beneficiary Survey 2016. Anti-dementia medications included cholinesterase inhibitors (ChEIs; including rivastigmine, donepezil, and galantamine) and N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor antagonists (including memantine). Descriptive analysis and multivariate logistic regression models were implemented to determine the possible gender disparities in the receipt of anti-dementia medications. Subgroup analyses were conducted to identify gender disparities among beneficiaries with Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and those with only AD-related dementias. Results: Descriptive analyses showed there were statistically significant differences in age, marital status, and Charlson comorbidities index (CCI) between Medicare beneficiaries who received and who did not receive anti-dementia medications. After controlling for covariates, we found that female Medicare beneficiaries with ADRD were 1.7 times more likely to receive anti-dementia medications compared to their male counterparts (odds ratio [OR]: 1.71; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.19-2.45). Specifically, among Medicare beneficiaries with AD, females were 1.2 times more likely to receive anti-dementia medications (Odds Radio: 1.20; 95% confidence interval: 0.58-2.47), and among the Medicare beneficiaries with only AD-related dementias, females were 1.9 times more likely to receive anti-dementia medications (OR: 1.90; 95% CI: 1.23-2.95). Conclusion: Healthcare providers should be aware of gender disparities in receiving anti-dementia medications among patients with ADRD, and the need to plan programs of care to support both women and men. Future approaches to finding barriers of prescribing, receiving and, adhering to anti-dementia medications by gender should include differences in longevity, biology, cognition, social roles, and environment.

Journal of gynecology obstetrics and human reproduction published new progress about Analgesia nociception index; Caesarean section; Heart rate variability; Maternal comfort; Skin-to-skin contact. 123-29-5 belongs to class esters-buliding-blocks, name is Ethyl nonanoate, and the molecular formula is C11H22O2, Product Details of C11H22O2.

Vamour, Clémence published the artcileImpact of skin-to-skin contact on maternal comfort in patients with elective caesarean section: A pilot study., Product Details of C11H22O2, the main research area is Analgesia nociception index; Caesarean section; Heart rate variability; Maternal comfort; Skin-to-skin contact.

OBJECTIVE: Caesarean section is a well-known cause of difficulties in breastfeeding initiation. Mother-infant skin-to-skin contact allows to improve breastfeeding and maternal comfort but remains few practiced during caesarean section. Our objective was to evaluate maternal comfort before and after immediate skin-to-skin contact in case of elective caesarean section. METHODS: This was a prospective, observational, monocenter study including patients with elective caesarean section. Mother-infant skin-to-skin contact was begun immediately after birth. The Analgesia Nociception Index (ANI) is a well know heart rate variability (HRV) index, currently used in anesthesia, which decreases during painful stimulation and increases with maternal comfort. The Analgesia Nociception Index was compared before and after skin-to-skin contact. RESULTS: 53 patients were included. Skin-to-skin contact was started on average 4min (2-14, IIQ (3-5)) after birth. The median duration was 21min (4-40, IIQ (12.3-29.5)). It was interrupted in 24 patients: 9 from mother’s wish, 11 for maternal reasons (drowsiness, stress, pain, maternal hypothermia, lipothymia, vertigo, nausea, cough) and 4 for the newborn (respiratory distress, low pH). The median Analgesia Nociception Index at the end of skin-to-skin contact and at the end of the intervention was statistically higher than that before skin-to-skin contact (p=0.034 and p<10-3 respectively). CONCLUSION: Skin-to-skin contact is possible during caesarean section and allows a better maternal comfort. It should be encouraged and proposed to patients during elective caesarean section. It will be interesting to evaluate it in case of caesarean section during labor.
