N’-Propylhydrazide analogs of hydroxamic inhibitors of histone deacetylases (HDACs), including tubastatin A, vorinostat and belinostat, were synthesized. All prepared compounds inhibited HDAC1/2/3, but not HDAC6, except for one hydrazide analog of HDAC4/5/7 inhibitor that was completely inactive. A novel 4-substituted derivative of N’-propylbenzohydrazide with extremely high anti-HCV activity was discovered.

Established electrodecarboxylative etherification protocols are based on Hofer-Moest-type reaction pathways. An oxidative decarboxylation gives rise to radicals, which are further oxidised to carbocations. This is possible only for benzylic or otherwise stabilised substrates. Here, we report the electrodecarboxylative radical-radical coupling of lithium alkylcarboxylates with 1-hydroxybenzotriazole at platinum electrodes in methanol/pyridine to afford alkyl benzotriazole ethers. The substrate scope of this electrochemical radical coupling extends to primary and secondary alkylcarboxylates. The benzotriazole products easily undergo reductive cleavage to the alcohols. They can also serve as synthetic hubs to access a wide variety of functional groups. This reaction prototype demonstrates that electrodecarboxylative C-O bond formation can be taken beyond the intrinsic substrate limitations of Hofer-Moest mechanisms.

Activated charcoal largely enhanced the rates of the alkaline hydrolysis of methyl, ethyl, and n-propyl esters in aqueous 1.5 M NaOH solution to give the corresponding carboxylic acids in excellent yields. The acidic hydrolysis of methyl, ethyl, and n-propyl esters in aqueous 3 M H2SO4 solution was accelerated by the addition of activated charcoal to afford the corresponding carboxylic acids in good yields. A mild and efficient protocol for the intramolecular aromatic C-H oxygenation of 2-biphenylcarboxylic acids has been achieved via iron photocatalysis. The 2-biphenylcarboxylic acids with a diverse array of substituents at both phenyl rings could furnish the oxygenation products in good to excellent yields. We speculate that the aryl carboxylate-iron(III) complexes should generate the aroyloxy radicals and iron(II) upon visible light irradiation.

A simple and an efficient approach for in situ preparation of palladium nanoparticles (Pd NPs) in ionic liquid crystal (ILC) microemulsion is described. Microemulsion was formed by using a ternary mixture of triton X-100/ILC/water (in the ratio of 1.4:0.1:8.5). Three such microemulsions-1, 2 and 3 were formed by using three different ILCs namely ammonium ILC containing a cholesterol core (ILC-1), imidazolium ILC bearing a cholesterol core (ILC-2) and imidazolium ILC containing a biphenyl core (ILC-3), respectively. The Pd NPs were characterised using UV-vis spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction studies. Among the three, microemulsion-2 which was prepared using ILC-2 yielded stable NPs with an average particle size of similar to 20 nm. The NPs prepared in all three emulsions were examined as catalyst for Heck reaction. The catalytic efficiency was analysed for four cross-coupling reactions involving iodobenzene with different substituted alkenes namely methyl acrylate, ethyl acrylate, butyl acrylate and styrene. The coupling reactions were completed in a shorter period with good yields. Further, the recyclability test of Pd NPs revealed that the particles showed good activity until third catalytic cycle. The Pd NPs prepared in microemulsion-2 showed better activity compared to those prepared in microemulsions-1 and -3. (C) 2020 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

The first catalyst for the alkoxycarbonylation of gem-difluoroalkenes is described. This novel catalytic transformation proceeds in the presence of Pd(acac)(2)/1,2-bis((di-tert-butylphosphan-yl)methyl)benzene (btbpx) (L4) and allows for an efficient and straightforward access to a range of difluoromethylated esters in high yields and regioselectivities. The synthetic utility of the protocol is showcased in the practical synthesis of a Cyclandelate analogue using this methodology as the key step.

In the present study, the modification of a mesoporous organosilica nanocomposite SBA-15 (Santa Barbara Amorphous 15) was carried out in two steps, first through the surface functionalization of SBA-Pr-NH(2)with 2-chloroquinoline-3-carbaldehyde to form SBA-Pr-NCQ, and then through a post-modification process with palladium ions. The target nanocompound structure of SBA-Pr-NCQ-Pd was characterized by different techniques (thermogravimetric analysis, X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy). The catalytic performance of the porous inorganic-organic hybrid nanocomposite (SBA-Pr-NCQ-Pd) in one of the most important carbon-carbon bond-forming processes, the Mizoroki-Heck coupling reaction of aryl halides and methacrylate in water/ethanol media, was examined. Compared to previous reports, this protocol afforded some advantages, such as high yields of products, short reaction times, catalyst stability without leaching, simple methodology, easy workup, and greener conditions. Also, the nanocatalyst can be easily separated from the reaction mixture and reused several times without a significant decrease in activity and promises economic as well as environmental benefits.
