This atom-efficient catalytic transformation provided straightforward access to a variety of valuable Me esters RCO2Me [R = n-octyl, cyclopentyl, CH2CH2SiEt3, etc.] in good to excellent yields and often with high selectivities. In kinetic experiments the activities of Pd- and Pt-based catalysts were compared. Even at low catalyst loading, Pt showed high catalytic activity.

A photoredox, nickel and phosphoranyl radical synergistic cross-electrophile coupling of com. available chems., aromatic acids RCO2H (R = 4-methylphenyl, thiophen-3-yl, naphthalen-2-yl, etc.) and aryl/alkyl bromides R1Br (R1 = 6-(trifluoromethyl)pyridin-3-yl, 2-cyanoethyl, quinolin-3-yl, etc.) was reported. A series of diphosphine ligands (L1L5) containing bis-phosphino fragments and bis-amido groups as well as intensive electron-withdrawing F atoms were synthesized and fully characterized. The structures of the prepared complex of PdL5 demonstrate that as for L5, the incorporated two phosphino fragments participate in the chelation to the Pd center inversely along with two Cl ligands to present a typical square-planar configuration, whereas the two amido groups simultaneously develop a hydrogen-bond interaction with Cl ligands to facilitate the timely dissociation of Cl ligands from the Pd center. It was found that L5 enabled the Pd complex to be more active in the alkoxycarbonylation of alkynes with MeOH for the synthesis of branched/linear α,β-unsaturated carboxylic esters with general yields of 60-89%. In L5, the incorporated diphosphino fragments, diamino groups, and F atoms conferred a catalytic effect to the Pd complex synergetic toward the reaction.

The present paper describes the novel aliphatic polyamide 6 (PA6) copolyamides by the melt polymerization reaction of our newly synthesized aliphatic diamine monomer: N1,N6-Bis-(2-aminoethyl)adipamide (BAEA). The BAEA/CHDA (1,4-cyclohexanedicarboxylic acid) salt was prepared by pertinent long-chain polyamide with the cycloaliphatic ring and isolated as white solid, utterly characterized for the first time. The chem. structure of BAEA, BAEA/CHDA salt and copolyamides (PA6-BAEA/CHDA) was identified by 1H NMR and FT-IR spectroscopy. Depending on the chem. compositions, the viscosity and mol. weight of the copolyamides were in the range of 19,447-13,536 g mol-1 and 2.74-2.2 dL g-1. With increasing BAEA/CHDA salt molar ratio in the synthesized copolyamides, their melting temperatures (Tm) decreased from 212.7 to 170.4 °C, and the glass transition temperatures (Tg) increased from 60 to 89.4 °C. Besides, the as-synthesized all copolyamides possess nearly similar thermal stability (Td-50% = 439.59 – 443.38 °C) as neat PA6. Mech. testing data revealed that with an increase in a proportion of BAEA/CHDA salt, Young’s modulus of copolyamides is increased from 698.54 to 1093.89 MPa, while the tensile strength is increased by 8.1%.

Di-Me itaconate (DI) is a membrane-permeable itaconate derivative with anti-inflammatory functions. However, the anti-inflammatory effect of DI has never been studied in fungal keratitis. In this study, we tested the protective effect of DI against fungal keratitis and assessed the role of Nrf2/HO-1 signaling in this process. Eyes of C57BL/6 (B6) mice were treated with 2 mm DI after infection with Aspergillus fumigatus. HCECs were pretreated with 0.25 mm DI and then incubated with A. fumigatus. Clin. scoring, slit-lamp photog., myeloperoxidase determination, flow cytometry and immunostaining were used to assess the disease response and treatment efficacy. PCR, Western blot and ELISA were used to assess the expression of IL-1β, chemokine (C-X-C motif) ligand 1, IL-6, IL-8, Nrf2 and HO-1. In addition, quantification of viable fungi, absorbance assays and fluorimetry were used to measure DI fungistatic activity. We observed that DI-treated eyes showed decreased clin. scores, fungal loads, PMN infiltration and cytokine expression, compared with phosphate-buffered saline-treated infected eyes. Moreover, DI treatment increased Nrf2 and HO-1 expression in corneas and nuclear Nrf2 accumulation in HCECs. Finally, DI treatment reduced the A. fumigatus absorbance and fungal mass. These data indicate that DI protects against fungal keratitis by limiting inflammation via the Nrf2/HO-1 signaling pathway and that DI inhibits the growth of A. fumigatus.

In current study, UV-visible spectrometry (UV-Vis) and ultra-performance liquid chromatog. quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (UPLC-Q-TOF-MS) were used to provide spectral and mass fingerprinting for polyethylene (PE). Coupling with chemometrics, two methods were developed to discriminate recycled and virgin PE. UV-Vis combined with chemometrics could be a more accessible, simpler and faster approach. 237-331 nm in UV spectrum was regarded as marker region selected by orthogonal partial least-squares discrimination anal. (OPLS-DA) and the accuracy of both calibration and validation set could reach 100% in linear discrimination anal. (LDA) based on this region. Besides, 2314 ions were detected by UPLC-Q-TOF-MS and processed by MS-DIAL. 48 candidate chems. were identified, including ketone, esters, carboxylic acid, alcs. and phenols, amine, nitriles, aldehydes and others. Possible origins of these compounds could be classified as plastic, food, drug, cosmetics and pesticide related. Many of these compounds are highly toxic, especially pesticide related, indicating that recycling in closed loop or sorting by the recycled plastic articles is very necessary if the recycled PE is going to be used as food contact material.

Myotonic Dystrophy type 1 (DM1) is an incurable neuromuscular disorder caused by toxic DMPK transcripts that carry CUG repeat expansions in the 3′ untranslated region (3′UTR). The intrinsic complexity and lack of crystallog. data makes noncoding RNA regions challenging targets to study in the field of drug discovery. In DM1, toxic transcripts tend to stall in the nuclei forming complex inclusion bodies called foci and sequester many essential alternative splicing factors such as Muscleblind-like 1 (MBNL1). Most DM1 phenotypic features stem from the reduced availability of free MBNL1 and therefore many therapeutic efforts are focused on recovering its normal activity. For that purpose, herein we present pyrido[2,3-d]pyrimidin-7-(8H)-ones, a privileged scaffold showing remarkable biol. activity against many targets involved in human disorders including cancer and viral diseases. Their combination with a flexible linker meets the requirements to stabilize DM1 toxic transcripts, and therefore, enabling the release of MBNL1. Therefore, a set of novel pyrido[2,3-d]pyrimidin-7-(8H)-ones derivatives (1a-e) were obtained using click chem. 1a exerted over 20% MBNL1 recovery on DM1 toxic RNA activity in primary cell biol. studies using patient-derived myoblasts. 1a promising anti DM1 activity may lead to subsequent generations of ligands, highlighting a new affordable treatment against DM1.

Adipic acid is the most important of the com. available aliphatic dicarboxylic acids. It is obtained industrially from cyclohexanone and/or cyclohexanol by oxidation with nitric acid(V). One of the byproducts of the process is nitrous oxide, which is difficult to utilize. In this paper we propose an alternative method of adipic acid synthesis. In the first stage, cyclohexene is oxidized with hydrogen peroxide to epoxide, which hydrolyzes to 1,2-cyclohexanediol that in the second stage is then oxidized with oxygen. From an environmental point of view, this two-stage method can offer a significant and attractive reduction of N2O production compared to the industrial methods. We apply a simple catalytic system composed of transition metal compounds and HNO3 or organic nitrites, to the second stage of adipic acid synthesis synthesis, namely 1,2-cyclohexenediol oxidation using oxygen.
