To develop an iron-based solid lipid nanoparticle (SLN) absorbable by the intestinal wall and assess the differential diagnostic value of intestinal lesions in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). SLNs were prepared with the simultaneous loading of trivalent Fe ions (Fe3+), levodopa Me ester (DM), and fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC). We evaluated the particle size, loading rate, encapsulation efficiency, and cytotoxicity of SLNs. The T1 contrast effects of the FeDM-FITC-SLNs and gadolinium-based contrast agent (GBCA) were compared in different mouse models: acute ulcerative colitis (AUC), chronic ulcerative colitis (CUC), colon adenocarcinoma (COAD), and normal control. MRI was performed in the same mouse with i.v. injection of GBCA on day 1 and enema of FeDM-FITC-SLNs on day 2. The signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs) were compared using one-way anal. of variance. Tissues were then collected for histol. The average particle size of FeDM-FITC-SLN was 220 nm. The mean FeDM loading rate was 94.3%, and the encapsulation efficiency was 60.3%. The relaxivity was 4.02 mM-1·s-1. After enema with FeDM-FITC-SLNs, MRI showed the following contrast enhancement duration: AUC = COAD > normal > CUC. Confocal fluorescence microscopy confirmed that FeDM-FITC-SLNs were mainly distributed in the intestinal mucosa and tumor capsule. Iron-based SLNs are promising alternatives for contrast enhancement at T1-weighted MRI and will help in the differential diagnosis of intestinal bowel diseases (IBDs). Anthocyanins-based colorimetric volatile amines sensors have recently received great attention for monitoring meat and fish freshness. However, most of the sensors suffered from anthocyanins leaching problems in humid packaging environments, severely limiting their indication ability. The present study developed a hydrogel-in-oleogel bigel to protect anthocyanins from leaching. The internal hydrogel was composed of water, agar and purple sweet potato anthocyanins (PSPA), and the external oleogel was made up of sunflower oil, beeswax and glyceride monooleate (GMO). The agar concentration and water-to-oil-phase volume ratio (W/O) were optimized to be 1.0% and 2:8, resp. The optimal pH value of hydrogel was determined to be 6.50, taking into consideration of the gas sensitivity and color stability of the bigel. The bigel was extruded onto polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) film through a 3D printing method to form the composite film. The results of the study revealed that PVDF-bigel composite film showed good stability in water, indicative of strong anti-leaching properties. Meanwhile, the PVDF-bigel film was sensitive to trimethylamine (TMA) with a limit of detection of 2.52μM. The PVDF-bigel film was subjected to in-situ and real-time monitor beef and salmon freshness. The film exhibited a red-to-purple color change upon reacting with volatile amines generated from beef and salmon. Henceforth, this study presented a new method to develop anthocyanins-based colorimetric gas sensors for intelligent food packaging. The thermal behavior of Zn(II) acetylsalicylate [Zn(acsa)2(H2O)2] with respect to phase transitions, pyrolysis both in air and inert (N2) atm., and product identification was studied. The complex was synthesized by metathesis in hot EtOH solution using aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid) as precursor and characterized via electronic and IR spectral analyses. Optical observations showed that the white salt does not undergo a direct transition from the solid to the liquid phase but rather goes slowly through an intermediate mesophase around 80° before melting rapidly to the brick-brown isotropic liquid around 134-136°. No liquid crystalline phases are however formed. This result was complemented by that from thermogravimetric (TG) studies in the ∼25-600° range, which showed three main weight-loss phases of 8.0, 50.0 and 14.0% (around 200, 250 and 400°) corresponding, resp., to the elimination of CO2, xanthone and HOAc. The pyrolysis products, as identified using a combination of instrumental (GC-MS) and wet chem. techniques are: CO2; nonstoichiometric Zn oxide, most likely in the form: Zn1+xO (0.0000 ≤ x ≤ 0.0003); and a mixture of organic products resulting from further decomposition, charring and other attendant thermal effects at the relatively high temperatures (∼600°) involved. Passiflora species have high industrial and medicinal relevance, due to presence of specific metabolites and their recognized pharmacol. activities. In vitro systems allow the modulation of secondary metabolites production according to culture conditions. In this work, we report the effect of different light emitting diodes (LED) on induction, metabolite production, and antioxidant properties of calluses derived from stem and leaf segments of P. setacea cv BRS Peŕola do Cerrado. Friable calluses were induced on MSM medium supplemented with picloram, under different light qualities (white fluorescent lamps or different types of LEDs) or in the dark. Light quality contributed more significantly for biomass accumulation than the other variables. Callus formation was observed in response to all treatments, although the highest biomass accumulation was induced by red LED. Chromatog. analyses indicated that blue LED induced the highest production of bioactive substances. All samples displayed low antioxidant potential by the DPPH assay, but showed a high capacity to chelate iron. The activity of antioxidant enzymes was also evaluated. The incubation under red LED caused an increase on the activity of superoxide dismutase, catalase and ascorbate peroxidase in calluses derived from internodal segments induced under red LED. This is the first study evaluating the effect of lighting conditions in in vitro systems of P. setacea cv BRS Peŕola do Cerrado, thus opening new possibilities of study and utilization. Linear discriminant anal. has been demonstrated to be a very useful tool in the selection and design of new drugs. Up to now we have used it through the search of a topol. pattern of activity. In this work our goal is to calculate a complete set of physicochem. parameters using semiempirical (quantum chem.) calculations as well as topol. indexes (TIs) and try to find out any discriminant function for antibacterial activity through the combined use of both types of descriptors. The physicochem. parameters, such as heat of formation, HOMO, LUMO, dipole moment, polarizability, hyperpolarizability, PM3 generated IR vibrational frequencies, etc., were calculated using PM3 Hamiltonian implemented within the MOPAC97 package. Among the TIs, connectivity as well as topol. charge indexes stands as the most representatives. The obtained results suggest that one of the maxima and min. vibrational frequencies play an important role in the antibacterial activity. These frequencies are associated with the torsional mol. vibration (N3) and the stretching vibration (N5) of X-H groups (X = C, N, O). Furthermore, the differences between the maxima and min. values showed an even better discriminant ability than the values themselves. The addnl. use of the topol. indexes provided a clear improvement in the discriminant function and also provided a straightforward way to predict the values of such frequencies, so that the results can be applied to a large set of compounds searching for new candidates as antibacterials. In the food-packaging industry, ethylene vinyl alc. (EVOH) is an attractive material due to its excellent gas barrier properties. Unfortunately, moisture sensitivity drastically limits the use of EVOH for packaging applications. To address this shortcoming, EVOH is often layered with other thermoplastic polymers or blended with nanomaterials to create films suitable for food packaging. However, these current nanocomposite strategies are still quite limited as a large volume of solvent is typically required. In this work, we present an approach to develop a food grade, EVOH nanocomposite material containing cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) via melt compounding. Two food-grade plasticizers (monolaurin and glyceryl monostearate) were studied as potential compatibilizers, and the compatibility of both plasticizers with CNCs and EVOH were evaluated using Hansen solubility parameters (HSPs). The Hansen solubility spheres indicated that monolaurin is a good compatibilizer, and it was thus studied exptl. Excellent dispersion of CNCs into EVOH was achieved by compounding premixed monolaurin and CNCs, prepared by codissoln./evaporation in a suitable ethanol/water cosolvent. Nanocomposite films with effective CNC dispersion prepared in this study also showed enhanced mech., thermal, and water barrier properties. Our results demonstrate the applicability of CNC/monolaurin/EVOH films for packaging applications and demonstrate, for the first time, effective dispersion of CNCs into a food-grade EVOH barrier material using melt compounding. Broiler chicks at 1 d of age (n = 150) were arbitrarily distributed into 6 groups. Birds from groups 1-3 were received the starter and finisher diets plus 2, 4, and 6 g of cinnamon/kg of the diet, resp. Birds from group 4 were fed the starter and finisher diets plus 66 mg of salinomycin, group 5 constituted the pos. control (PC), with the coccidial challenge, and group 6 constituted the neg. control (NC), without the coccidial infection, which were both maintained on diets without any cinnamon. The results showed that BW gain, feed conversion ratio, and production efficiency factor declined considerably (P < 0.05) in the PC compared with the NC. At seventh day postinfection (DPI), the lesion score was significantly (P < 0.05) lower in the ceca of salinomycin-treated birds than the PC. The anticoccidial index was moderate in the chickens treated with salinomycin and 6 g cinnamon at 7 DPI compared with those in the PC group. In addition, cinnamon- or salinomycin-treated birds exhibited lower oocyst values and higher oocyst reduction rate than those in the PC. Understanding metabolite changes and underlying metabolic pathways that may be affected in target plants following essential oils (EOs) exposure is of great importance. In this study, a gas chromatog.-mass spectrometry (GC/MS) based metabolomics approach was used to determine the metabolite changes in lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) shoot and root after exposure to different concentrations of W. trilobata EO. Multivariate analyses of principal component anal. (PCA) and orthogonal partial least-discriminant anal. (OPLS-DA) corroborated that shoot and root of lettuce responded differently to W. trilobata EO. In EO-exposed shoot samples, an increase in the levels of malic acid, glutamine, serine, lactose and α-glucopyranose affected important metabolism pathways such as glycolysis, fructose and mannose metabolism and galactose metabolism The findings suggest that lettuce may be up-regulating these metabolites to increase tolerance against W. trilobata EO. In EO-exposed root samples, changes in fatty acid biosynthesis, elongation, degradation, phenylalanine, tyrosine and tryptophan metabolism were linked to a decrease in lyxose, palmitic acid, octadecanoic acid, aspartic acid, phenylalanine and myo-inositol. These results indicate that W. trilobata EO could cause alterations in fatty acid compositions and lead to inhibition of roots growth. Together, these findings provide insight into the metabolic responses of lettuce upon W. trilobata EO exposure, as well as potential mechanisms of action of W. trilobata EO as bio-herbicides. This study involved multiple reactions and reactants, such as Glyceryl monostearate (cas: 31566-31-1Name: Glyceryl monostearate).

Glyceryl monostearate (cas: 31566-31-1) belongs to esters. Esters are also usually derived from carboxylic acids. It may also be obtained by reaction of acid anhydride or acid halides with alcohols or by the reaction of salts of carboxylic acids with alkyl halides. Esterification is the general name for a chemical reaction in which two reactants (typically an alcohol and an acid) form an ester as the reaction product. Esters are common in organic chemistry and biological materials.Name: Glyceryl monostearate
