In this research, a multifunctional strain sensor based on gluten/guar gum (GG) copolymer was developed. The effects of gluten/GG blended ratios on the mech. and elec. properties, self-adhesion, self-healing, remolding, self-powered and long-term stability of the strain sensors were studied. Among tested substrates, the gluten/GG blend indicated a strong adhesion to wood and paper substrates and showed a maximum adhesive strength at 1.5 wt% of GG in the copolymer (gluten/GG-1.5%). The adhesive strength of gluten/GG-1.5% decreased in the acceptable range when it was applied in 10 repeated adhesion cycles. The gluten/GG-1.5% exhibited a high elec. conductivity of 0.12 S/m and stretchability of 465%. The gluten/GG-based sensor containing glycerol showed long-term stability of self-healing, remolding, and self-powered ability when stored for 7 days, whereas the self-adhesive ability decreased with increasing storage time. The self-adhesive gluten/GG-1.5% was used to monitor human limb movements, which showed remarkable sensitivity during the storage time of 3 days. Such properties suggested a potential use of smart strain sensors with multifunctional capabilities for applications in wearable electronic devices. 4-Acetamidophenyl 2-acetoxybenzoate (cas: 5003-48-5) belongs to esters. Esters are also usually derived from carboxylic acids. It may also be obtained by reaction of acid anhydride or acid halides with alcohols or by the reaction of salts of carboxylic acids with alkyl halides. Esters contain a carbonyl center, which gives rise to 120° C–C–O and O–C–O angles. Unlike amides, esters are structurally flexible functional groups because rotation about the C–O–C bonds has a low barrier. Their flexibility and low polarity is manifested in their physical properties; they tend to be less rigid (lower melting point) and more volatile (lower boiling point) than the corresponding amides. Petroleum, synthetic, and natural waxes have been used as hydrophobic bases for dispersions intended for use as barrier coatings for packaging paper. Oil-in-water dispersions with alk. pH were prepared by a two-step homogenization procedure containing paraffin wax, with various characteristics, the Fischer-Tropsch synthesis product or beeswax. The size of the dispersed particles determined by dynamic light scattering depended on the type of hydrophobic base used and was in the range of 350-440 nm. The ability of dispersion particles in aggregation driven by electrostatic attraction, evaluated by zeta potential anal. by electrophoretic light scattering, was from -26 to -50 mV. Static multiply light scattering was used for 30 days of stability assessment and helped to select the dispersion with a Sarawax SX70 wax base as the most stable. Dispersions were further used for coating the backing of kraft paper by the Meyer rod method. Coated paper with an applied coating of 6 g/m2 had very good hydrophobic properties (Cobb60 < 4 g/m2), sufficient strength properties, and air permeation, which enabled its application as a packaging material. The dispersions based on Sarawax SX70 wax were evaluated as the best coating for Mondi ProVantage Kraftliner 125 g/m2 backing paper. Good hydrophobic properties and strength properties indicate the possibility of using the SX70-based wax dispersion coating as a replacement for PFAS coatings in some applications. In the current work, the influences of Moringa oleifera biodiesel-diesel-hexanol and Moringa oleifera biodiesel-diesel-ethanol blends on compression ignition engine characteristics were exptl. investigated. Experiments were conducted on a diesel engine at 0%, 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% load conditions run at a constant speed of 1500 rpm. The results revealed that B90-D5-H5 acquired the lowest BSFC and maximum BTE of 0.375 kg kW-1 h-1 and 28.8%, resp., and B100 had the highest BSFC of 0.425 kg kW-1 h-1. B90-D5-H5 had the highest cylinder peak pressure of 74 bar at 4°CA aTDC. The maximum heat release rate (HRR) and longer ignition delay (ID) period of 44 J per °CA and 14.4°CA, resp., were attained in the B90-D5-H5 blend. At 100% load condition, the lowest amount of carbon monoxide (CO) of 0.32% volume was acquired in the B80-D5-E15 blend. The maximum nitric oxide (NO) emission of 1090 ppm was also acquired in the B80-D5-E15 blend. B100 had the lowest NO of 846 ppm; B80-D5-E15 had the lowest unburned hydrocarbon (UBHC) emission of 34 ppm at 100% load and the lowest smoke opacity of 34%. Biodiesel-diesel-alc. blends improve engine performance and decrease emissions compared to the conventional diesel. The utilization of biodiesel-diesel-alc. blends reduces the consumption of diesel. Hence, ethanol and hexanol are recommended as potential alternative additives in biodiesel-diesel blends to improve engine performance and reduce emissions. Berberine is a naturally occurring isoquinoline alkaloid and has been used as an important functional food additive in China due to its various pharmacol. activities. Berberine exhibits great potential for developing anti-diabetic agents against type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), as it can reduce the blood glucose level in many animal models. However, the low anti-diabetic activity and poor bioavailability of berberine (below 5%) by oral administration significantly limit its practical applications. To solve these problems, this article focuses on the structural modification of berberine using some disaccharide groups, because the carbohydrate moiety has been proved to improve the bioavailability and enhance the receptor-binding affinity of drugs. Anti-diabetic investigation of the synthesized compounds was performed in a zebrafish model using a fluorescently labeled glucose analog 2-deoxy-2-[(7-nitro-2,1,3-benzoxadiazol-4-yl)amino]-D-glucose (2-NBDG) as a glucose tracker. The results indicated that the modification of berberine with carbohydrate groups could give derivatives with improved anti-diabetic activity, in particular the diglucose modified berberine derivative I which could dramatically promote the uptake of 2-NBDG in both zebrafish larvae and their eyes even at very low concentrations Furthermore, the fluorescence-based anti-diabetic investigation method in zebrafish shows great potential for anti-diabetic drug screening. Ma-Mu-Ran Antidiarrheal Capsules (MMRAC) is traditional Chinese medicine that has been used to treat diarrhea caused by acute enteritis (AE) and bacillary dysentery in Xinjiang (China) for many years. However, the potential therapeutic mechanism of MMRAC for AE and its regulatory mechanism on host metabolism is unclear. This study used fecal metabolomics profiling with GC/MS and 16S rRNA gene sequencing anal. to explore the potential regulatory mechanisms of MMRAC on a dextran sulfate sodium salt (DSS)-induced mouse model of AE. Fecal metabolomics-based analyses were performed to detect the differentially expressed metabolites and metabolic pathways. The 16S rRNA gene sequencing anal. was used to assess the altered gut microbes at the genus level and for functional prediction. Moreover, Pearson correlation anal. was used to integrate differentially expressed metabolites and altered bacterial genera. The results revealed that six intestinal bacteria and seven metabolites mediated metabolic disorders (i.e., metabolism of amino acid, carbohydrate, cofactors and vitamins, and lipid) in AE mice. Besides, ten altered microbes mediated the differential expression of eight metabolites and regulated these metabolisms after MMRAC administration. Overall, these findings demonstrate that AE is associated with metabolic disorders and microbial dysbiosis. Further, we present that MMRAC exerts protective effects against AE by improving host metabolism through the intestinal flora. The Co2(CO)8-catalyzed reaction of acetals with hydrosilanes and CO under mild reaction conditions (an ambient temperature under an ambient CO pressure), leading to the production of vicinal diols is reported. A siloxymethyl group can be introduced via the cleavage of one of two alkoxy groups in the acetal. The effects of the types of hydrosilanes, acetals, solvents, and reaction temperatures on the yield of siloxymethylation products were examined in detail. The reactivity for hydrosilanes is as follows; HSiMe3 > HSiEtMe2 > HSiEt2Me > HSiEt3. Hemiacetal esters are more reactive than di-Me acetals. The polarity of the solvent used also has a significant effect on both the course of the reaction as well as the reaction rate. The site-selective siloxymethylation can be achieved in the case of cyclic acetals such as THF and tetrahydropyran (THP) derivatives, depending on the nature of the oxygen substituent attached adjacent to the oxygen atom in the ring. When 2-alkoxy THF or THP derivatives are used as substrates, the siloxymethylation takes place with cleavage of the ring C-O bond. In contrast, the reaction of 2-acetoxy THF or THP derivatives results in siloxymethylation with the cleavage of C-OAc bond. The ring-opening siloxymethylation of lactones was also examined Thus, e.g., reaction of CH2(OMe)2 with HSiMe3 and CO afforded MeO(CH2)2OSiMe3 (70%). Volcanic deposits affect soil nitrogen dynamics and fungal-bacterial dominance in temperate forests was written by Yokobe, Tomohiro;Hyodo, Fujio;Tokuchi, Naoko. Volcanic deposits increase soil organic carbon storage. However, little is known about the effect of volcanic deposits on forest soil nitrogen (N) dynamics and microbial communities. We explored gross and net N transformation rates and microbial community structure using a phospholipid fatty acid (PLFA) method across eight forests with soils derived from different parent material in Japan. Volcanic mineral soils had approx. three-fold greater total N and inorganic N contents and gross nitrification, ammonium immobilization, and nitrate immobilization rates that were one order of magnitude higher than in non-volcanic soils. Moreover, volcanic mineral soils had a 1.7-fold lower N turnover rate, which was estimated as net N mineralization rate per soil N. This was likely caused by a higher gross N immobilization rate, potentially due to the mineral traits of volcanic soils. Volcanic mineral soils had approx. four- and three-fold greater microbial biomass-N and bacterial PLFA contents, resp., and the fungal:bacterial PLFA ratio was lower in volcanic mineral soils than in non-volcanic soils. Microbial community structure, analyzed using non-metric multidimensional scaling, was distinct between volcanic and non-volcanic soils, and was significantly affected by soil characteristics. This study demonstrates that aside from soil carbon storage, volcanic deposits are related to increases in soil N immobilization, N content, bacterial biomass, and N transformation rates in forest ecosystems. BACKGROUND : Ozone treatment can effectively inhibit fruit decay in many fruits during postharvest storage. However, little information is available for pitaya fruit. RESULTS : Ozone treatment significantly reduced the decay rate and induced the enzyme activities of peroxidase and polyphenol oxidase, and also reduced the levels of reactive oxygen species. In total, 103 metabolites were detected and changed the content after ozone treatment, including 54 primary metabolites and 49 aromatic compounds After significance and importance anal., 37 metabolites were important. Some metabolites were induced by peel senescence to respond to senescence stress, including D-fructose, D-glucose, mannose, inositol, galactonic acid, ethanedioic acid and stearic acid. Some metabolic products of peel senescence were reduced by ozone treatment, including D-arabinose, glucaric acid, galacturonic acid, 1-hexanol, 4-ethylcyclohexanol, β-linalool, palmitoleic acid and 2-hydroxy-cyclopentadecanone. Some metabolites induced by ozone treatment might play a vital role in delaying the senescence and decay, including malic acid, succinic acid, pentenoic acid, eicosanoic acid, 2-hexenal, hexanal, 2-heptenal, 4-heptenal, 2-octenal and nitro m-xylene. CONCLUSION : Ozone treatment significantly reduced decay and prolonged shelf-life without reducing fruit quality.
