The SA modified NanoCubogel showed slower and sustained release of EGCG with higher permeation across buccal mucosa when compared to that of unmodified and pure EGCG. The formulation was found to be stable during the storage period. The developed NanoCubogel was capable of getting retained at the diseased site for a longer duration and releasing the EGCG locally for the desired time. Thus, the developed formulation may be used as an alternative treatment for OSF. To clarify the absolute configuration of the acyl moiety of 2-methylbutyryl in the natural compound, two possible isomers were synthesized starting from β-D-glucose pentaacetate. By comparing the spectroscopic data of natural and synthesized compounds of isomers, the structure of pennelliiside D was confirmed to be 3,4-O-diisobutyryl-2-O-((S)-2-methylbutyryl)-D-glucose. Pennelliiside D and its constituent fatty acid moiety, (S)-2-methylbutanoic acid, did not show root growth-inhibitory activity. Thermal oxidation and UV exposure contribute to major changes in the physicochem. and rheol. properties of asphalt binder, leading to the deterioration of pavements. This paper investigates the merits of grafting bio-derived mols. onto particles of crumb rubber to create bio-modified rubberized asphalt binder with enhanced resistance to thermal aging and UV aging. The bio-modification of the crumb rubber was made via a hybrid process where mols. of waste cooking oil were grafted to rubber with the help of microwave radiation. The evolution of bio-modified rubberized asphalt during thermal aging and UV aging was then characterized and compared with those of conventional rubberized asphalt. Study results showed biomodification was effective to delay both thermal aging and UV aging. However, the effectiveness varied with the type of aging with the resistance to thermal aging being enhanced by 35%-84% and the resistance to UV aging being enhanced by 34-106%. Overall, the synergy between waste cooking oil, crumb rubber, and asphalt binder led to a significant improvement in the resistance against aging, thereby promoting sustainability in construction while making use of two waste streams including waste cooking oil and crumb rubber from scrap tire.
