The synthesis and characterization of diblock and triblock copolymers produced by a two-component iniferter system is reported. These materials, designed for possible water treatment applications, consist of a hydrophilic poly(2-dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate) (PDMAEMA) block and a very low surface energy poly(1,1′-dihydroperfluorooctyl methacrylate) (PFOMA) or poly(1,1,2,2-tetrahydroperfluorooctyl acrylate) (PTAN) block. Angle-dependent X-ray spectroscopy results and water contact angle measurements indicate that the surfaces of PDMAEMA-b-PFOMA diblock copolymers consist primarily of PFOMA. Transmission electron microscopy reveals that the block copolymers are microphase-separated, exhibiting either cylindrical or layered morphologies that do not change appreciably upon exposure to water. Both water uptake and water flux increase with increasing PDMAEMA content.

Nagarkar, Rahul A. published the artcileEfficient Process for the Production of Alkyl Esters, Application of Dimethyl adipate, the publication is ACS Omega (2022), 7(32), 28129-28137, database is CAplus.

This article reports a scalable process development for the production of alkyl esters through the esterification route by utilizing fly ash as a catalyst. The catalyst consisting of mixed oxides such as alumina, iron oxide, calcium oxide, magnesium oxide, and silica was employed for the esterification reaction without modification. The catalyst was evaluated for the conversion of feedstock containing variable amounts of free fatty acids, mono/dibasic acid, and alc./polyols into the corresponding alkyl esters. Three types of fly ash catalysts, viz., FS-1, FP-1, and FC-1, were chosen from three different industrial sources. Synthesis of di-Me adipate was studied as a model reaction. FS-1 fly ash gave the highest yield of di-Me adipate, whereas FC-1 gave a low yield of di-Me adipate. The recyclability of FS-1 was evaluated for three cycles, and no loss of yield was observed Furthermore, the catalyst FS-I was found to be capable of producing good yields for various esterification reactions with different substrates.

This study was conducted to determine the concentrations of mineral substances, such as: calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg), copper (Cu), and zinc (Zn); in the blood serum of broiler chicks after supplementation of humic substances. Group 1 (G1) was supplemented with 0.7% Humac Natur Mycosorb (HNMy); G2 with 0.7% Humac Natur Monogastric (HNM); G3 with 0.3% HNMy; and the control group (GC) received a basal diet without any supplements. In the G2 group, the serum Ca level increased slightly compared to the other exptl. groups. A statistically significant decrease (P < 0.001) in the blood serum of Mg was detected in the broilers from group G2 (0.60 mmol.l-1) and G1 (P < 0.05; 0.68 mmol.l-1) in comparison to the GC. The Zn in the blood serum of broilers from group G2 (22.05μmol.l-1) was significantly increased (P < 0.05) in broilers from group G2 in comparison to the control group (19.47μmol.l-1) and G1 group (19.61μmol.l-1). The serum Cu (12.72μmol.l-1) was significantly increased (P < 0.001) in broilers from group G2 in comparison to the GC (10.28μmol.l-1). In the group G1 there was a significant decrease (P < 0.05) in the level of the Cu in the blood serum (8.69μmol.l-1) in comparison to the serum Cu in broilers from groups G3 (10.45μmol.l-1) and G2 (12.72μmol.l-1). The addition of Humac Natur Mycosorb (0.3% and 0.7%) in the feed caused a strong correlation in the blood serum between the Ca and Mg (r = 0.7494; r = 0.7648). The addition of 0.3% Humac Natur Mycosorb in the feed caused a high neg. correlation (r = -0.7078) in the blood serum between the Mg and Zn.

Iron-gall ink is one of the most important inks in the history of western civilization. The deep black color results from Fe3+ complexes with phenolic compounds available in gall extracts Unfortunately, it induces the degradation of both ink and support over time. Furthermore, our knowledge of these complex mol. structures is limited. This work aims to overcome this gap, revealing essential information about the complex structures of these pigments and dyes that will create a breakthrough in the next generation of conservation treatments. It presents the first in-depth phenolic identification and quantification of extracts and inks, prepared with and without gum arabic (an essential additive in medieval recipes). Five representative Iberian recipes were selected and prepared Their phenolic profile was analyzed by HPLC-DAD and HPLC-ESI-MS, which revealed that the phenolic compounds present in higher concentration, in the gall extracts, are pentagalloylglucose and hexagalloylglucose (0.15 ± 0.01-32 ± 3 mg/mL), except for one recipe, in which gallic acid is the main phenolic. The influence of the ingredients is also discussed by deconstructing the recipes: extracts of additives as pomegranate peel and solvents used in the extraction of the galls (vinegar and white wine) were characterized.

Photocuring resins have emerged as cutting-edge technol. in coatings, adhesives, composites, additive manufacturing, and so forth. In the present work, different bisphenol, namely A, F, and S, were used to synthesize low mol. weight epoxy resin, which was further reacted with acrylic acid monomer to form bisphenol-based epoxy acrylate (BEA). The BEA resins were formulated using reactive diluents, trimethylolpropane triacrylate, and hexanediol diacrylate in the ratio of 0-40 wt% at the increment of 10 wt% alongside a fixed quantity photoinitiator. These resins were then cast into dumbbell-shaped specimens by irradiating them under UV light. The structural elucidation of BEA resins was performed using Fourier transform IR, NMR, and UV-Vis spectroscopy. The formulated resins were also studied for their rheol. properties. Further, the UV cured specimens were evaluated for mech., thermal, contact angle, and extent of curing. These outcomes were utilized for establishing the structure-property relationship based on the functionality, reactivity, and mol. structure of synthesized BEA resins, which controllers the design architecture and crosslinking d. of UV-cured specimens.

Alemtuzumab is an effective disease-modifying therapy (DMT) for highly active multiple sclerosis (MS). However, safety concerns limit its use in clin. practice. To evaluate the safety of alemtuzumab in a nationwide cohort of Finnish MS patients. In this retrospective case series study, we analyzed the data of all but two MS patients who had received alemtuzumab in Finland until 2019. Data were systematically collected from patient files. Altogether 121 patients were identified, most of whom had received previous DMTs (82.6%). Median follow-up time after treatment initiation was 30.3 mo and exceeded 24 mo in 78 patients. Infusion-associated reactions (IARs) were observed in 84.3%, 57.3%, and 57.1% of patients during alemtuzumab courses 1-3, resp. Serious adverse events (SAEs) were observed in 32.2% of patients, serious IARs in 12.4% of patients, and SAEs other than IARs in 23.1% of patients. Autoimmune adverse events were observed in 30.6% of patients. One patient died of hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis, and one patient died of pneumonia. A previously unreported case of thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura was documented. SAEs were more frequent in the present cohort than in previous studies. Even though alemtuzumab is a highly effective therapy for MS, vigorous monitoring with a long enough follow-up time is advised.
