Oral cladribine has been approved for the treatment of relapsing multiple sclerosis (MS) yet real-world evidence regarding its effectiveness and safety remains scarce. To evaluate efficacy and safety outcomes of MS patients following induction of cladribine. We evaluated our prospective cohort of cladribine-treated MS patients from two tertiary centers in Germany. Relapses, disability worsening and occurrence of new or enlarging T2-hyperintense magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) lesions were assessed as well as lymphocyte counts and herpes virus infections. Among 270 patients treated with cladribine, we observed a profound reduction of both relapses and new or enlarging MRI lesions. Treatment appeared more efficacious, especially in patients without previous therapy or following platform substances. Patients switching from natalizumab were prone to re-emerging disease activity. Among patients following di-Me fumarate pre-treatment, severe lymphopenia was common and associated with increased rates of herpes virus manifestations. Overall, we observed an efficacy and safety profile of cladribine consistent with data from the phase 3 clin. trial. However, patients switching from natalizumab experienced suboptimal disease control beyond rebound activity following cessation of natalizumab. Furthermore, di-Me fumarate pre-treatment was associated with a profound risk of developing severe lymphopenia and subsequent herpes virus infections.

While monitoring for the seasonal occurrence of the tea tortrix moth, Homona magnanima Diakonoff (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae), a number of Neocalyptis angustilineata (Walsingham) were attracted to traps baited with H. magnanima attractant, a 9:1 blend of (Z)-11-tetradecenyl acetate (Z11-14Ac) and (Z)-9-dodecenyl acetate (Z9-12Ac). We evaluated a 1:1 blend (1 mg) and a 9:1 blend (1 mg) of Z11-14Ac and Z9-12Ac for their attractiveness to the two moth species. H. magnanima was attracted only to the 9:1 blend. However, N. angustilineata was equally attracted to both blends. Thus, we report the 9:1 blend as a co-attractant for N. angustilineata and H. magnanima. This blend is the first finding for the attractant for N. angustilineata.

Vicinal dibromides and dichlorides are important commodity chems. and indispensable synthetic intermediates in modern chem. that are traditionally synthesized using hazardous elemental chlorine and bromine. Meanwhile, the environmental persistence of halogenated pollutants necessitates improved approaches to accelerate their remediation. Here, we introduce an electrochem. assisted shuttle (e-shuttle) paradigm for the facile and scalable interconversion of alkenes and vicinal dihalides, a class of reactions that can be used both to synthesize useful dihalogenated mols. from simple alkenes and to recycle waste material through retro-dihalogenation. The reaction is demonstrated using 1,2-dibromoethane, as well as 1,1,1,2-tetrachloroethane or 1,2-dichloroethane, to dibrominate or dichlorinate, resp., a wide range of alkenes in a simple setup with inexpensive graphite electrodes. Conversely, the hexachlorinated persistent pollutant lindane could be fully dechlorinated to benzene in soil samples using simple alkene acceptors.

Mass trapping of Spodoptera frugiperda (Smith) in Central America required a high performance lure with consistent capture rates. S. frugiperda lures from North America and England gave erratic capture rates under field conditions. A reinvestigation of four acetate attractants (Z9-14Ac, Z11-16Ac, Z7-12Ac and Z9-12Ac) for S. frugiperda present in Costa Rica revealed that Z7-12Ac and Z9-12Ac were highly attractive to S. frugiperda when presented alone. Binary combination of Z7-12Ac with Z9-14Ac significantly increased attraction and was at least 10 times more attractive to S. frugiperda in Costa Rica than North American or English lures. Addition of Z11-16Ac to binary combinations of Z9-14Ac and Z7-12Ac marginally increased capture rates. If the concentration of Z7-12Ac is increased to 5% in lures containing Z9-14Ac, Z11-16Ac and Z7-12Ac capture rates significantly decrease. The optimized lure contains Z7-12Ac that is a component not previously reported in S. frugiperda from the Caribbean region.

Motivated by the use of frontal polymerization for the manufacturing of thin layers with thickness down to 1̃00μm, we numerically and exptl. investigate the interplay between the exothermic polymerization and the heat losses to the substrate. The results show how the reaction-diffusion power balance affects the velocity and temperature of the polymerization front. The lower thickness limit of the thin layer depends on the cure kinetics of the resin and the thermal properties of the substrate and is described by a scaling law. Concurrently, thin-layer frontal polymerization experiments confirm the effects of front-substrate interaction on the front propagation and the limiting thickness of the polymerized layer. The present study offers a fundamental understanding of the resin-substrate interplay in thin-layer frontal polymerization and provides a quant. description of the limiting thickness of the layer in the fabrication of functional thin polymeric parts and resin coatings.

Pd0 catalysts featuring phosphorus-based monodentate ligands was detour the reactivity of carbonyl-tethered alkylidenecyclopropanes (ACPs) from standard (3+2) cycloadditions towards tandem cycloisomerization/cross-coupling processes. This new reactivity lies on the formation of key π-allyl oxapalladacyclic intermediates, which were subsequently trapped with external nucleophilic partners, instead of undergoing canonical C-O reductive eliminations. Importantly, the use of imine-tethered ACP’s was also feasible. Therefore, the method provided a straightforward and stereoselective entry to a wide variety of highly functionalized cyclic alcs. and amines.

Wood, Callum H’s team published research in Multiple sclerosis and related disorders in 58 | CAS: 624-49-7

Multiple sclerosis and related disorders published new progress about 624-49-7. 624-49-7 belongs to esters-buliding-blocks, auxiliary class Inhibitor,Natural product, name is Dimethyl fumarate, and the molecular formula is C11H14O4, Product Details of C6H8O4.

Wood, Callum H published the artcileIncidence of persistent lymphopenia in people with multiple sclerosis on dimethyl fumarate., Product Details of C6H8O4, the publication is Multiple sclerosis and related disorders (2022), 103492, database is MEDLINE.

BACKGROUND: Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) is a disease modifying therapy (DMT) used in the management of Multiple Sclerosis (MS). Lymphopenia occurs in approximately 30% of people receiving this medication. The recently revised Summary of Product Characteristics (SPC) recommends increased monitoring or cessation of this medication in the context of persistent lymphopenia, because of an increased risk of progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML). It is therefore important for clinicians and patients to be aware of the frequency of persistent, moderate-severe lymphopenia in order to make informed decisions regarding drug choice and safety monitoring. METHODS: We reviewed medical records of 156 people with MS (PwMS) started on DMF between 2014 and 2020, who received at least 6 months of treatment, in order to identify the incidence and duration of persistent lymphopenia. RESULT: Ten were excluded due to missing data. In 146 patients, treated for 30.7 months (mean), 16 (11%) were found to experience persistent moderate lymphopenia (0.5-0.7 × 109/L) and 5 (3%) experienced persistent severe lymphopenia (<0.5 × 109/L). Of the 5 patients with persistent severe lymphopenia, 3 discontinued DMF. Two cases stopped directly due to SPC recommendations and after 6-months no further DMTs were initiated. Treatment was withdrawn in a further case due to lack of efficacy. Two cases remained on DMF as their persistent severe lymphopenia predated SPC revision. Mean times to persistent moderate and severe lymphopenia were 10.6 months and 25.5 months respectively. Increased age was a predictor for persistent lymphopenia (B = 0.071, p = 0.004) while sex, and previous DMT were not.

Living radical polymerization with reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT polymerization) can be achieved with the use of dithiocarbamate derivatives that have the nonbonded electron pair of the nitrogen included as part of an aromatic system. These compounds have been shown to be highly effective in RAFT polymerization of styrene and (meth)acrylate esters to produce polymers of predetermined mol. weight and narrow polydispersity (usually <1.2). By contrast, simple N,N-dialkyl dithiocarbamates (those compounds previously described as “photoiniferters”) are ineffective as RAFT agents. The reasons for the different behavior are discussed.
