Structural elucidation of three new sesquiterpenoids, namely, (1Z,4E)-lepidoza-1(10),4-dien-14-ol (I), rel-(1(10)Z,4S,5E,7R)-germacra-1(10),6 diene-11,14-diol (2), and rel-(1(10)Z,4S,5E,7R)-humula-1(10),5-diene-7,14-diol (3), isolated from the liverwort Conocephalum conicum, was accomplished by a combination of extensive NMR experiments, 1H NMR simulation, and other means. Addnl., the change of the identity of bicyclogermacren-14-al, previously reported as a C. conicum constituent, to isolepidozen-14-al is proposed. Compounds 2 and 3 appear to be related to I via hydration involving a shared intermediate, a substituted cyclopropylmethyl cation, formed by a highly regio- and stereoselective protonation of I, followed by a stereospecific fission of the three-membered ring. In other words, an isolepidozene derivative might be a branchpoint to humulanes and germacranes; this transformation could be of, up to now, unknown, biosynthetic and/or synthetic relevance. Multivariate statistical anal. of the compositional data of C. conicum extract constituents was used to probe the hypothesized biochem. relations. The immunomodulatory effect of I-3 and conocephalenol (4) was evaluated in an in vitro model on both nonstimulated and mitogen-stimulated rat splenocytes. The compounds displayed varying degrees of cytotoxicity to nonstimulated splenocytes, whereas 2 and 3 were found to exert immunosuppressive effects on Con A-stimulated splenocytes while not being cytotoxic at the same concentrations

Hydrogel-based flexible strain sensors for personal health monitoring and human-machine interaction have attracted wide interest among researchers. In this paper, hydrophobic association and nanocomposite conductive hydrogels were successfully prepared by introducing polyaniline coated silica (SiO2@PANI) core-shell particles into an acrylamide-lauryl methacrylate (P(AM/LMA)) copolymer matrix. The hydrophobic interaction between the SiO2@PANI core-shell particles and the hydrophobic LMA in the P(AM/LMA) chains induced the hydrogels with outstanding mech. properties. Furthermore, the polyaniline on the SiO2 surface and the inorganic salt formed a conductive network, which synergistically enhanced the conductivity of the hydrogels. The obtained hydrogels integrate high tensile strength (1398 kPa), ultra-stretchability (>1000%), wonderful strain sensitivity (gauge factor = 10.407 at 100-1100% strain), quick response (300 ms), and excellent durability (>300 cycles) due to the hydrophobic association and nanocomposite effect. The prepared SiO2@PANI-P(AM/LMA) hydrogel shows high stress sensitivity to detect human movements and displays a broad application prospect in flexible strain-sensor field.

Cationic surfactant (dodecyl tri-Me ammonium bromide) was utilized to form micelles with hydrophobe, served as phys. crosslinking points in the 3D networks of hydrogels. The HA hydrogels showed a high tensile strength of 181 kPa, superior stretchability of 2300% and excellent toughness of 2.16 MJ m-3. Moreover, they owned extraordinary self-recovery under different conditions. It is hopeful that the hydrogels with superior mech. strength and self-healing properties would be applied to the fields of biomedicine and engineering. Meanwhile, based on above materials, HA hydrogels could also be synthesized with the combination of hydrophobic association and other synergistic effects, such as latex particles, electrostatic effect and nanoparticles.

Crude FAME content was analyzed with GC-FID gas chromatographer and its fuel properties compared to worldwide standards Main finds were a crude FAME majorly composed by Me esters of palmitic acid, linoleic acid, and stearic acid, representing about 49.93, 13.24, and 10.16 weight%, resp. Optimized conditions for maximum FAME synthesis from Pequi bio-oil (99.4 ± 0.33%) were 18:1 M ratio of methanol to bio-oil, 60°C of temperature, 100 min of reaction, catalyst load of 2.5 weight%, and stirring speed of 600 rpm. Kinetics of the bio-oil mass conversion through transesterification presented reaction rates varying from 0.016 to 0.091 min-1, 63.07 kJ kg-1 of activation energy (Ea), and pre-exponential value (A) of 11.4E105. Catalyst efficiency decreased to 34.9% after 10 reuse cycles. Fuel properties of the crude FAME met worldwide standards of biodiesel quality, thus indicate that Pequi bio-oil is a viable, sustainable, and widely available feedstock option in Brazil.

Me (2R,3S)-3-(4-methoxyphenyl)glycidate [(2R,3S)-MPGM] is an advanced chiral synthon for the synthesis of the cardiovascular drug diltiazem. It can be easily accessed by cyclizing the reduction products of Me 2-chloro-3-(4-methoxyphenyl)-3-oxo-propanoate. Herein, we report an identified carbonyl reductase (CpKR) from Candida parapsilosis that displayed an excellent stereoselectivity toward the keto substituent at the C3-position of the 2-chloro-3-oxo-ester. The engineered Escherichia coli cells harboring CpKR gene were directly applied for the asym. reduction of keto ester 1a with a space-time yield of 46 g L-1 d-1, which represents the highest productivity in bio-reduction reported so far. The isolated chiral alc. products were then applied to the chem. synthesis of (2R,3S)-MPGM in 99% ee and a total yield of 76% in the two-step chemo-enzymic reactions, which far exceeded the maximum theor. yield (50%) of the existing industrial process based on a lipase-catalyzed resolution of racemic MPGM. This work provides a promising eco-friendly and cost-effective route toward industrial synthesis of pharmaceutically relevant diltiazem.

Therefore, the speed of sound in liquid Me caprylate was measured by the Brillouin light scattering method in the temperature range of 298.22-608.38 K and at pressures of up to 10 MPa. The relative expanded uncertainty of the speed of sound is estimated to be less than 1.32% (coverage factor k = 2). The variation of the speed of sound with the temperature and pressure was analyzed. Besides, the correlation for the speed of sound as a function of temperature and pressure is presented based on the exptl. data. The absolute average of relative deviation between the exptl. data and the calculated results is 0.29%.

Both extracts also prevented the increase in ROS formation, and loss of ΔΨm. Both Borassus flabellifer extracts show antioxidant activity and cytoprotective effect against cisplatin-induced cytotoxicity of NRK-52E cells by preventing oxidative stress and maintenance of GSH redox status. Borassus flabellifer extracts may possess beneficial effects on the prevention of oxidative stressinduced cell injury.
