Digital light processing of ceramic precursor was used to prepare SiC rich ceramic parts in this study. In order to achieve appropriate light curing rate, the ceramic precursor allylhydropolycarbosilane (LHBPCS) was mixed with acrylate monomers tripropylene glycol diacrylate and trimethylolpropane triacrylate. The content of acrylate monomers was optimized to increase the ceramic yield and reduce the shrinkage during pyrolysis. According to the results of thermogravimetric anal. and photolithog. experiment, 15 wt% acrylate monomers was appropriate. 330 mJ/cm2 UV irradiation dose was selected for every layer with a thickness of 25 μm, and green bodies with different shapes were successfully printed. During pyrolysis, these printed parts changed from transparent yellow to black accompanying uniform shrinkage. At 1000 °C, the shrinkage was 24.0-26.0%, and crack-free SiC rich ceramic parts with d. of 2.11 g/cm3 and chem. formula of SiC1.31O0.26 were obtained.

An UHPLC-QTOF/MS method was employed to identify chems. migrating from metalized polypropylene (met PP) films. The migration test was conducted by converting met PP films into pouches filled with 95% ethanol as a fatty food simulant and treating the pouch samples with gamma and electron beam irradiation at a dose of 10 kGy. A temperature of 22°C and a duration time of 21 days were used for the migration test. Over 10 chems. were identified, 3 of them were intentionally added substances (IAS), while the rest were considered as non-intentionally added substances (NIAS) including radiolysis products (RPs) derived from antioxidants. Based on the identification results, 5 chems. (3 hindered phenolic compounds, 1 phosphate compound and 1 phosphonate compound) were selected and their migration behaviors were evaluated under the effect of irradiation It was found that irradiation treatment significantly reduced the migration level of all substances. The extent of decrease was dependent on their stability under irradiation The phosphate/phosphonate compounds recorded higher stability resulting in less decrease (3-25%) in migration level. The hindered phenolic compounds were susceptible to irradiation and a large drop (45-88%) of migration level was observed Potential risks of met PP films were evaluated by comparing the migration levels of selected chems. with their migration limits either listed in Regulation (EU) Number 10/2011 or established with Cramer classification. The results showed that the migration level of the phosphonate compound was above the recommended migration limit, which may present a safety concern.

The self-assembly behavior of azobenzene-based triblock copolymers poly(ethylene oxide)-block-polystyrene-block-poly[6-(4-methoxy-4′-oxy-azobenzene)hexyl methacrylate] (PEO-b-PS-b-PMMAZO) and their mixtures with PS or PMMAZO homopolymers were studied by means of transmission electron microscopy, SEM, laser light scattering and UV-vis spectrophotometry. It was found that pure block copolymers self-assembled into spherical micelles with core-shell structures. The addition of PS or PMMAZO homopolymers can not only increase the aggregate size but also had a significant influence on the photo-isomerization behavior and photo-deformation behavior of the aggregate. The photo-isomerization study revealed that a complete trans-cis or cis-trans isomerization of azobenzene chromophores could be acquired when irradiated with UV or visible light for polymers both in organic solutions and in micelles. The photo-isomerization rate of azobenzene chromophores increases when PS homopolymers were incorporated into micelles, while with the addition of PMMAZO homopolymers, it decreases. The photo-induced elongation of the aggregates by irradiation of a linearly polarized laser were observed for all the samples, and the deformation degree increases with the weight fraction of azobenzene groups in the parent copolymers, as well as the PMMAZO content for the mixture micelles.

INTRODUCTION AND HYPOTHESIS: Mechanical trauma and oxidative injury are involved in the pathogenesis of stress urinary incontinence (SUI), and oxidative stress (OS) is considered a potential therapeutic target. The antioxidant properties of dimethyl fumarate (DMF), a potent activator of Nrf2, have been highlighted recently. We therefore predicted that DMF might have therapeutic effects on mechanical trauma-induced SUI. METHODS: The SUI mice model was established by vaginal distension (VD). Leak point pressure (LPP), serum OS biomarkers, cell proliferation and apoptosis, collagen, elastin, matrix metalloproteinases (MMP), Nrf2, the TGF-β1/Smad3 signaling pathway, and the associated tissue growth factors in the anterior vaginal wall were measured in either wild-type or Nrf2-knockout (Nrf2/) female C57BL/6 mice. RESULTS: The results showed that DMF improved the VD-induced LPP reduction, alleviated oxidative injury, stimulated cell proliferation and inhibited apoptosis in the anterior vaginal wall tissue of mice. Moreover, DMF treatment reduced the hydrolysis of ECM proteins by MMP2 and MMP9. The above effects may be mediated by a series of tissue growth factors, including α-SMA, PAI-1, and TIMP-2, with the TGF-β1/Smad3 signaling pathway as the core regulatory mechanism. In further study, Nrf2/ mice were used to replicate the SUI model. And the difference is that DMF failed to reactivate the TGF-β1/Smad3 pathway, nor did it improve LPP. CONCLUSIONS: Dimethyl fumarate can ameliorate urethra closure dysfunction in the VD-induced SUI mice model, and the therapeutic effect of DMF is mediated by the Nrf2-dominated antioxidant system and its downstream TGF-β1/Smad3 signaling pathway.

An environmentally benign route leading to adiponitrile (ADN), a nylon-6,6 intermediate, was achieved by direct vapor-phase nitrilation of di-Me adipate (DMA) with ammonia (NH3) in a fixed-bed reactor. The challenges of this reaction include not only inhibiting both intramol. cyclization and the intermol. polycondensation of the electron-withdrawing group functionalized carbon chain but also suppressing the thermolysis of aliphatic DMA and ADN. Both amphoteric oxides and acidic oxides enable the transformation but exhibit different reactivities. Under evaluation conditions, the acidic oxides exhibit moderate to good nitrile selectivity, while the amphoteric oxides exhibit high DMA conversions with relatively low nitrile selectivity. Under the optimized conditions, the desired ADN was obtained with a selectivity of 84.3% with 97.7% DMA conversion over Nb2O5-1000 consisting of a monoclinic structure/phase (H-Nb2O5). The structure-performance relationship of this catalyst was preliminarily discussed. Furthermore, a tentative reaction pathway consisting of ammonolysis and dehydration processes in a tandem mode was proposed.

Adiponitrile (ADN) is a key intermediate for the industrial production of polyamides represented by nylon 66. In this study, the chemoselective nitrilation of di-Me adipate (DMA) with ammonia (NH3) under continuous flow conditions was studied on carbon encapsulated oxygen-deficient WOx<3 catalysts (WOx@C/C). A combination of dispersed anchor sites at a poly(ionic liquid) (PIL) template, the porosity of active carbon support, and the calcination procedure allows the formation of effective WOx@C-600-0.25-A1, persisting high BET sp. surface area and WO2.83 active phase of appropriate size. It delivers ADN and Me 5-cyanopentanoate (MCP) with an excellent selectivity of up to 95.8% at a weight hourly space velocity of DMA (WHSVDMA) of ∼0.64 gDMA gcat-1 h-1 and an NH3/DMA molar ratio of 13 : 1. A tandem reaction route from DMA to ADN via MCP was elucidated, wherein the second nitrilation of MCP to ADN proceeds very slowly. Besides, both CDMA and TONADN/TONMCP are significantly influenced by the phys. dispersion and size of the active WO2.83 phase in WOx@C/C.

A molecularly imprinted film (MIF) was prepared on the surface plasmon resonance (SPR) sensor chip for the detection of testosterone. The nanometer imprinted film was synthesized by surface grafting approach. First, the gold sensor chip was modified with an iniferter of benzyl diethyldithiocarbamate to create the “grafting from” polymeric surface. Grafting of the MIF onto the SPR chip was subsequently achieved through UV light-initiated copolymerization of methacrylic acid (functional monomer) and ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (crosslinker) in the presence of testosterone as a model template. The template mols. were then removed to form a MIF with specific recognition sites for testosterone. With this iniferter technique, self-aggregation in the reaction solution phase was avoided and grafting polymerization was confined to the exterior of the chip surface. The grafting process was implemented by in situ monitoring with SPR, which permitted the thickness of the film to be easily and strictly controlled. The chip surface modified with a testosterone-imprinted film was characterized by the methods of polarization modulation IR reflection absorption spectroscopy (PM-IRRAS) and at. force microscopy (AFM). According to the results, testosterone-imprinted film modification of the SPR chip was achieved by the distribution of numerous homogeneous, nanoscale holes on the surface. The testosterone-imprinted film was applied on a SPR sensor chip for the detection of testosterone in the range of 2.5 × 10-16 to 2.5 × 10-6 mol/L in acetonitrile with the lowest determining concentration of 2.5 × 10-16 mol/L. Adsorption experiments showed that there were two kinds of binding sites in the MIF, and the linear correlations between the changes in reflectivity and the concentration of testosterone were y = 19.69 + 1.21x (R2 = 0.9913) and y = 11.5 + 0.45x (R2 = 0.9895), resp. Control experiments utilizing estradiol, estriol, and progesterone as analogs showed impressive selectivity and specificity for testosterone determination The testosterone-imprinted film reproducibility was evaluated with five cycles of rinsing-rebinding and the RSD was 16.8% and 11.2% for the SPR angle changes in rinsing and rebinding resp., demonstrating that the MIF-modified SPR sensor had good reproducibility and repeatability. Finally, the SPR sensor was successfully used to determine testosterone in artificial urine samples with recoveries from 85.2% to 92.8%.

BACKGROUND: Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) is an effective drug for multiple sclerosis and can improve the cognitive dysfunction caused by streptozotocin, but the effect on cognitive dysfunction caused by hypothyroidism is unclear. METHODS: After the hypothyroidism rat model induced by propylthiouracil, we gave rats 25 mg/kg DMF by gavage. The body weight during model building and administration was recorded. The levels of T4 and T3 in serum were detected by an automatic biochemical analyzer. Morris water maze test was used to detect the effect of DMF on cognitive learning ability. The effect of DMF on Nissl bodies in the brain tissue was evaluated by Nissl staining. The mRNA and protein levels of BDNF in brain tissue were detected by quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction and Western blot. The degrees of p-AKT/AKT and p-CREB/CREB in brain tissue were detected by Western blot. RESULTS: After DMF treatment, the body weight of hypothyroid rats recovered, and the levels of T3 and T4 in the serum were ameliorated. DMF also reduced the escape latency and distance traveled, and increased the swim speed. The number of Nissl bodies and expression of BDNF, p-AKT/AKT, and p-CREB/CREB in the brain tissue were increased after DMF treatment. CONCLUSION: DMF improved the cognitive dysfunction of hypothyroid rats by increasing the level of BDNF in the brain tissue of hypothyroid rats.

A novel maleimide monomer 4-(furan-maleimide ethyl) Me methacrylate (MMA-FMI) was prepared by Diels-Alder reaction. A novel azobenzene monomer with furan, 4-(4-furan-2-methyl-2-acetate azo) Ph Me methacrylate (MMA-FAzo), was prepared by nitro reduction, diazotization, coupling. MMA-FAzo was randomly copolymerized with MMA-FMI and 4-(4-methoxy azo) Ph Me methacrylate (MMA-Azo-OCH3) to obtain an additive reaction azobenzene polymer (PAzo). The structure of the polymer was characterized by NMR spectroscopy, Fourier IR spectroscopy, gel permeation chromatog. The photoinduced cis-trans isomerization behavior of the polymer was characterized by UV-Vis absorption spectrometer. By UV-Vis absorption spectrometer, the constant of photoinduced cis-trans isomerization rate is 0.217 s-1, indicating that the PAzo is rapid light-response. The additive property of the polymer was analyzed by TGA. By the thermoreversible experiment, the crosslinked PAzo is recyclable and reprocessed.
