The objective of this work is to contribute to greater knowledge of the essential oil production on a pilot scale from foliage biomass of wild shrubs and tree residues produced in some forestry enhancement operations and to study their antioxidant capacity (ORAC-oxygen radical absorbance capacity). Fresh biomass (twigs) of seven species (E. globulus, E. nitens, P. pinaster, P. sylvestris, R. officinalis, C. ladanifer, and J. communis) was manually collected in Spain in two different periods and was ground at 30 mm and distilled in a 30 L stainless steel still with saturated steam. The essential oil components were identified by GC-MS and quantified by GC-FID, and their antioxidant activity was determined with the ORAC method. Promising results on essential oil yield were obtained with E. globulus, E. nitens, R. officinalis, and J. communis. It can be inferred that APS as stabilizer of oil in water emulsion and PEG showed good synergy for aqueous nucleophilic substitution reactions. It was found that the properties of pickering emulsion, including droplets distribution and size, was closely related to catalytic performance for the reactions. As the results, pickering emulsion system in the optimized reaction conditions could exhibit excellent catalytic performance (yield ≥90%) for the production of iodooctane from bromooctane and NaI without stirring. What’s more, the spent pickering emulsion could be easily reconstructed and show good reusability (yield≈80%) even after using for seven times. This study proposed the design and control system of a hybrid heat-integrated configuration for the di-Ph carbonate (DPC) indirect reactive distillation (RD) process. First, an existing DPC production process with an RD column and a distillation column (C1) as the base case was modified and optimized for further evaluation. Both thermally coupled distillation (TCD) and double-effect (DE) configurations were examined to simultaneously improve the energy efficiency. A hybrid heat-integrated configuration for the DPC indirect RD process was finally proposed. The remixing effect at the top part of the RD column could be removed, and the energy wastage in the condenser of the C1 was lower than that in the TCD configuration. The heat exchanger (HE) area was smaller than that in the DE configuration. Among all configurations, the hybrid configuration was superior; around 34.0% of energy could be saved for producing 99.5 mol% of DPC. Then, three control structures (CS1, CS2, and CS3) and two inventory control loops (inventories A and B) were proposed in the hybrid heat-integrated configuration. Pressure-compensated temperature (PCT) control was also applied to eliminate the effect of pressure floating. The dynamic simulation results revealed that the CS3 PCT could maintain specifications during throughput and composition disturbances. The treatment of epilepsy remains difficult mostly since almost 30% of patients suffer from pharmacoresistant forms of the disease. Therefore, there is an urgent need to search for new antiepileptic drug candidates. Previously, it has been shown that 4-alkyl-5-substituted-1,2,4-triazole-3-thione derivativatives possessed strong anticonvulsant activity in a maximal electroshock-induced seizure model of epilepsy. In this work, we examined the effect of the chem. structure of the 1,2,4-triazole-3-thione-based mols. on the anticonvulsant activity and the binding to voltage-gated sodium channels (VGSCs) and GABAA receptors. Docking simulations allowed us to determine the mode of interactions between the investigated compounds and binding cavity of the human VGSC. Selected compounds were also investigated in a panel of ADME-Tox assays, including parallel artificial membrane permeability assay (PAMPA), single cell gel electrophoresis (SCGE) and cytotoxicity evaluation in HepG2 cells. The obtained results indicated that unbranched alkyl chains, from Bu to hexyl, attached to 1,2,4-triazole core are essential both for good anticonvulsant activity and strong interactions with VGSCs. The combined in-vivo, in-vitro and in-silico studies emphasize 4-alkyl-5-substituted-1,2,4-triazole-3-thiones as promising agents in the development of new anticonvulsants.
