Ligor, Tomasz published the artcileAnalysis of VOCs in Urine Samples Directed towards of Bladder Cancer Detection, Name: Benzyl acetate, the main research area is bladder cancer volatile organic compound urine analysis; GC×GC TOF MS; bladder cancer; urine analyses; volatile organic compounds.

Bladder cancer is one of most common types of cancer diagnosed in the genitourinary tract. Typical tests are costly and characterized by low sensitivity, which contributes to a growing interest in volatile biomarkers. Head space solid phase microextraction (SPME) was applied for the extraction of volatile organic compounds from urine samples, and gas chromatog. time of flight mass spectrometry (GCxGC TOF MS) was used for the separation and detection of urinary volatiles. A cohort of 40 adult patients with bladder cancer and 57 healthy persons was recruited. Different VOC profiles were obtained for urine samples taken from each group. Twelve compounds were found only in the samples from theBC group. The proposed candidate biomarkers are butyrolactone; 2-methoxyphenol; 3-methoxy-5-methylphenol; 1-(2,6,6-trimethylcyclohexa-1,3-dien-1-yl)-2-buten-1-one; nootkatone and 1-(2,6,6-trimethyl-1-cyclohexenyl)-2-buten-1-one.Since most of the studies published in the field are proving the potential of VOCs detected in urine samples for the screening and discrimination of patients with bladder cancer from healthy, but rarely presenting the identity of proposed biomarkers, our study represents a novel approach.

Wu, Alexander T. H. published the artcileIdentification of a Novel Theranostic Signature of Metabolic and Immune-Inflammatory Dysregulation in Myocardial Infarction, and the Potential Therapeutic Properties of Ovatodiolide, a Diterpenoid Derivative, SDS of cas: 72835-26-8, the main research area is myocardial infarction gene regulatory network ovatodiolide therapeutic property; DEG; inflammatory and metabolic dysregulation; miRNA; myocardial infarction; ovatodiolide; theranostic.

Myocardial infarction (MI) is a multifactorial global disease, recognized as one of the leading causes of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. Timely and correct diagnoses and effective treatments could significantly reduce incidence of complications and improve patient prognoses. In this study, seven unconventional differentially expressed genes (DEGs) (MAN2A2, TNFRSF12A, SPP1, CSNK1D, PLAUR, PFKFB3, and CXCL16, collectively termed the MTSCPPC signature) were identified through integrating DEGs from six MI microarray datasets. The pathol. and theranostic roles of the MTSCPPC signature in MI were subsequently analyzed. We evaluated interactions of the MTSCPPC signature with ovatodiolide, a bioactive compound isolated from Anisomeles indica (L.) Kuntze, using in silico mol. docking tools and compared it to specific inhibitors of the members of the MTSCPPC signature. Single-cell transcriptomic anal. of the public databases revealed high expression levels of the MTSCPPC signature in immune cells of adult human hearts during an MI event. The MTSCPPC signature was significantly associated with the cytokine-cytokine receptor interactions, chemokine signaling, immune and inflammatory responses, and metabolic dysregulation in MI. Anal. of a micro (mi)RNA regulatory network of the MTSCPPC signature suggested post-transcriptional activation and the roles of miRNAs in the pathol. of MI. Our mol. docking anal. suggested a higher potential for ovatodiolide to target MAN2A2, CSNK1D, and TNFRSF12A. Collectively, the results derived from the present study further advance our understanding of the complex regulatory mechanisms of MI and provide a potential MI theranostic signature with ovatodiolide as a therapeutic candidate.

Vilar, Elena Garicano’s team published research in Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture in 2021-02-28 | CAS: 111-11-5

Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture published new progress about Alaria esculenta. 111-11-5 belongs to class esters-buliding-blocks, name is Methyl octanoate, and the molecular formula is C9H18O2, Category: esters-buliding-blocks.

Vilar, Elena Garicano published the artcileA chemometric approach to characterize the aroma of selected brown and red edible seaweeds/extracts, Category: esters-buliding-blocks, the main research area is seaweed extraction chemometric approach aroma; GC-MS; GC-O; aroma; seaweeds; volatile compounds.

Information pertaining to the aromatic profile of seaweeds and seaweed extracts can provide evidence regarding their potential suitability as ingredients in processed foods. To date only limited material has been available on the volatile profiles of some seaweed species. Others in this study have not previously been described. The volatile profiles of dried brown (Himanthalia elongata, Undaria pinnatifida, Alaria esculenta) and red (Porphyra umbilicalis, Palmaria palmata) seaweeds, and a brown seaweed extract (fucoxanthin) from Laminaria japonica were investigated using a chemometric approach to collate data from volatile gas chromatog. – mass spectrometry (GC-MS), direct sensory aroma evaluation, and gas-chromatog. – olfactometry (GC-O) to obtain a better understanding of their volatile profile and sensory perception. More than 100 volatile compounds were identified by static headspace solid phase micro-extraction (HS-SPME) and thermal desorption gas chromatog. – mass spectrometry (TD GC-MS). Brown seaweeds were characterized by ‘grassy/herbal/floral’, ‘fruity’, and ‘fatty’ aromas, red seaweeds by ‘green/vegetable’, ‘mushroom/earthy’ and ‘sweet/buttery’ aromas, and the fucoxanthin extract by ‘rancid’ and ‘nutty’ aromas with an overall lower intensity. Heptanal appeared to be a major odor-active compound in all samples. Other volatiles were more characteristic of each individual seaweed: hexanal, (E,Z)-2,6-nonadienal and 2-pentylfuran for H. elongata; Et butanoate and 2,3-butanedione for U. pinnatifida; 6-dimethylpyrazine, (E,Z)-2,6-nonadienal and sulactone for P. palmata; 1-octen-3-ol for P. umbilicalis, heptanone for A. esculenta, and 2-furanmethanol for fucoxanthin. Brown and red seaweeds had distinct sensory properties with individual seaweeds having differing volatiles and odorants. This study provides addnl. information that can contribute to the development of products incorporating dried seaweeds/extracts that are more acceptable to the consumer.

Elpa, Decibel P. published the artcileRapid Extraction and Analysis of Volatile Solutes with an Effervescent Tablet, SDS of cas: 106-32-1, the main research area is effervescent tablet carbon dioxide volatile extraction.

Extraction of volatile compounds from complex liquid matrixes is a critical step in volatile compound anal. workflows. Recently, green chem. principles are increasingly implemented in extraction processes. Some of the available approaches are solvent-free but still require concentration or trapping of analytes. Here, we propose effervescent tablet-induced extraction (ETIE) as a method of transferring volatile/semivolatile compounds from liquid matrixes to the gas phase for anal. This technique relies on the release of carbon dioxide produced in situ during a neutralization reaction, which occurs when a tablet is inserted into an aqueous sample matrix. In this process, many bubbles of carbon dioxide are instantly formed in the sample matrix. The bubbles rapidly extract and liberate volatile compounds from the sample. The gaseous effluent is then immediately transferred to a detector (atm. pressure chem. ionization mass spectrometry (MS) or gas chromatog. (GC) hyphenated with MS). ETIE-GC-MS can be used for anal. of volatile compounds present in real samples. The method was validated for anal. of selected Et esters present in a yogurt drink. The calibration data set was linear over a range from 5 × 10-7 to 1 × 10-5 M. The limits of detection ranged from 1.51 × 10-7 to 6.82 × 10-7 M, while the recoveries ranged from 71 to 118%. Inter- and intraday precision of selected Et esters in aqueous solution was satisfactory (relative standard deviation, 3.6-18.3%). Furthermore, it is shown that ETIE improves the performance of headspace solid-phase microextraction while eliminating the need for heating and shaking samples.

Food Research International published new progress about Alternaria porri. 123-29-5 belongs to class esters-buliding-blocks, name is Ethyl nonanoate, and the molecular formula is C11H22O2, COA of Formula: C11H22O2.

Nievierowski, Tassia Henrique published the artcileRole of partial dehydration in a naturally ventilated room on the mycobiota, ochratoxins, volatile profile and phenolic composition of Merlot grapes intended for wine production, COA of Formula: C11H22O2, the main research area is grapes wine production mycobiota ochratoxins volatile profile phenolic composition; Aspergillus niger; Dehydrated grapes; Ochratoxin A; Oenological products; Phenolic compounds; Uncontrolled conditions; Volatile compounds.

Dehydration of grapes has been used in various regions of the world to produce special wines, aiming to add value to oenol. products. Post-harvest dehydration in rooms may be carried out regardless of weather conditions, without the addnl. cost of a specific infrastructure, in addition to the benefits of protecting the grapes from damages and environmental pollution. The objective of this study was to verify, for the first time, the impact of the dehydration in a naturally ventilated room on the quality of Merlot grapes. Physicochem. characteristics, mycobiota, occurrence of mycotoxins, volatile profile and phenolic composition of grapes were monitored on 7th, 14th and 21st days of dehydration (weight loss of 10, 20 and 27%, resp.). A decrease in aw (6%), pH (4%), and berry hardness (58%), along with an increase in total soluble solid content (15%) were observed during dehydration. The presence of Pestalotiopsis clavispora, Neopestalotiopsis clavispora, Colletotrichum siamense and Alternaria porri was favored during the dehydration process, while a decrease in the occurrence of Aspergillus niger and Phanerochaete sp. was verified. A. niger isolates showed no potential to produce forms of ochratoxins. These toxins were also not found in the grape samples. Regarding the volatile profile, 1-hexanal, 2-hexenal, and 1-octanal gave rise to the corresponding alcs. during dehydration, such as 1-hexanol, 2-hexen-1-ol, and 1-octanol. Acids (hexanoic, decanoic, and 3-hexenoic) resulted in the resp. Et esters (hexanoate, decanoate, and Et 3-hexenoate) during dehydration. Terpenes as limonene, myrcene, and geraniol decreased throughout dehydration, while their biotransformation products (α-terpineol, 6-methyl-5-hepten-2-one, and linalool, resp.) had an increase in concentration The phenolic content oscillated during dehydration, with an emphasis on increased levels of four hydroxybenzoic acids (Et gallate, p-hydroxybenzoic acid, gallic acid-hexose, and gallic acid), two hydroxycinnamic acids (caffeic acid and caftaric acid), two flavonols (kaempeferol galactoside and quercetin) and two anthocyanins (peonidin 3-O-hexoside and delphinidin 3-O-hexoside). Grapes of satisfactory quality were produced by dehydration in a naturally ventilated room. Even small wine producers can be encouraged to implement this procedure for the diversification of oenol. products, as it has no costs related to the implementation of chambers/tunnels.

Toth, M. published the artcileImproving bisexual lures for the silver Y moth Autographa gamma L. and related plusiinae (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae), Application of Benzyl acetate, the main research area is Autographa Noctuidae bisexual eugenol.

The addition of synthetic eugenol and benzyl acetate to the known floral chem. and moth attractant phenylacetaldehyde synergized attraction of the silver Y moth Autographa gamma, an important noctuid pest. Traps baited with the ternary blend caught 2 to 6 times more A. gamma moths than traps baited with phenylacetaldehyde alone. Both female and male moths were attracted, supposedly in the natural sex ratio of the local population. More A. gamma were caught when the blend was formulated in dispenser types with higher release rates. Traps baited with the ternary lure in polyethylene bag dispensers caught 20% to 34% as many moths as were caught in traps baited with synthetic sex pheromone, suggesting that this improved bisexual lure could be efficient enough to yield a new tool for detection and monitoring of female and male A. gamma, for more reliable plant protection decisions.

Xu, Liyun published the artcileThe effect of hydroxyl on the superhydrophobicity of dodecyl methacrylate (LMA) coated fabrics through simple dipping-plasma crosslinked method, Product Details of C16H30O2, the main research area is hydroxyl superhydrophobicity dodecyl methacrylate fabric dipping plasma crosslinked method.

In order to obtain stable superhydrophobicity, suitable hydrophobic treatment agents should be selected according to different material properties. In this paper, cotton and poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) fabrics were resp. coated with dodecyl methacrylate (LMA) via argon combined capacitively coupled plasma (CCP), and the surface hydrophobicity and durability of the treated cotton and polyester fabrics are also discussed. An interesting phenomenon happened, whereby the LMA-coated cotton fabric (Cotton- g-LMA) had better water repelling and mech. durability properties than LMA-coated PET fabric (PET- g-LMA), and LMA-coated hydroxyl-grafted PET fabrics (PET fabrics were successively coated with polyethylene glycol (PEG) and LMA, PET- g-PEG & LMA) had a similar performance to cotton fabrics. The water contact angles of Cotton- g-LMA, PET- g-LMA and PET- g-PEG & LMA were 156 °, 153 ° and 155 °, resp., and after 45 washing cycles or 1000 rubbing cycles, the corresponding water contact angles decreased to 145 °, 88 °, 134 ° and 146 °, 127 ° and 143 °, resp. Addnl., thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) and polyamides-6 (PA6) fabrics all exhibited the same properties as the PET fabric. Therefore, the grafting of hydroxyl can improve the hydrophobic effect of LMA coating and the binding property between LMA and fabrics effectively, without changing the wearing comfort.

Walter, Teresa published the artcileDispersion-based, scalable fabrication of repellent superhydrophobic and liquid-infused coatings under ambient conditions, Product Details of C16H30O2, the main research area is polymer coating material superhydrophobicity.

Superhydrophobic and liquid-infused porous coatings provide effective repellency against contaminations and ensure efficient performance of surfaces in a wide range of applications. Conventional fabrication processes of such coatings typically require fluorinated components, toxic solvents, and elevated temperatures, and therefore contribute to environmental pollution. Here, we present a dispersion-based, fluorine-free coating system that produces highly repellent surface coatings at ambient conditions. Our system is based on aqueous dispersions of a polymeric binder and hydrophobic fumed silica particles, which upon drying self-organize into a micro- and nanostructured thin film with superhydrophobic properties, characterized by a water contact angle above 150° and a contact angle hysteresis below 10°. An addnl. dispersion-based coating step allows infusing these structures with silicone oil, thus producing a lubricant-infused repellent coating mimicking the pitcher plant. Water droplets on such coatings exhibit efficient repellency properties, characterized by low sliding angles (<5°) and contact angle hysteresis of water droplets (<10°). Our method provides a versatile, dispersion-based toolbox to create functional, repellent coatings in a simple, scalable and environmentally benign process. Bottom-up self-assembly of components, inspired by hierarchically self-regulating aggregation of small subunits observed in nature, provides a strategy for constructing two- or three-dimensional intriguing biomimetic materials via the spontaneous combination of discrete building blocks. Herein, we report the methods of ultrasonic wave energy-assisted, fast, two- and three-dimensional mesoscale well-ordered self-assembly of microfabricated building blocks (100μm in size). Mech. vibration energy-driven self-assembly of microplatelets at the water-air interface of inverted water droplets is demonstrated, and the real-time formation process of the patterned structure is dynamically explored. 40 kHz ultrasonic wave is transferred into microplatelets suspended in a water environment to drive the self-assembly of predesigned well-ordered structures. Two-dimensional self-assembly of microplatelets inside the water phase with a large patterned area is achieved. Stable three-dimensional multi-layered self-assembled structures are quickly formed at the air-water interface. These demonstrations aim to open distinctive and effective ways for new two-dimensional surface coating technol. with autonomous organization strategy, and three-dimensional complex hierarchical architectures built by the bottom-up method and commonly found in nature (such as nacre, bone or enamel, etc.).

A new mix-mode cellulose-based sorptive phase is described that combines two different polymeric domains (i.e., nylon and polystyrene), thus providing simultaneous hydrophilic and hydrophobic features as a result. By analogy with Janus materials, the new paper-based sorptive phase has been named paper-based polystyrene/nylon Janus-platform (P-Ps/Ny-JP). The main advantages of the proposed P-Ps/Ny-JP are the sustainability, simplicity in synthesis, and low cost of this extraction device. The main parameters affecting the synthesis (i.e., coating procedure and polymers proportion) have been studied, and the resulting material has been characterized via SEM and IR spectroscopy. As a proof-of-concept, the simultaneous extraction of fourteen UV filters of a wide range of polarity, with log P values ranging from – 0.234 to 16.129, from water samples and their determination by liquid chromatog.-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) has been performed. The proposed methodol. enables the determination of these chems. with limits of detection from 12 to 71 ng L-1, and the precision, expressed as a relative standard deviation, was below 15%. The extraction device was applied to the anal. of real water samples likely to contain UV filters (i.e., two private swimming pool water and one seawater) and the recovery values were in the range 73-121%.
