Achieving good transparency, high strength and superior extensibility simultaneously in autonomic self-healing elastomers remains challenging and fascinating. Herein, a complementary design strategy of combining densely distributed multiple hydrogen bonds and loosely packed spacer units in supramol. elastomer was reported to address the inherent contradiction of robust strength and room temperature self-healing. The chem. structure can be tuned to achieve a good compromise between the mech. properties and self-healing efficiency. The representative elastomers can achieve robust strength (6.81 MPa), high extensibility (2520%) and superior toughness with the dissipated energy up to 63.7 MJ/m3. Moreover, this elastomer is capable of recovering mech. fractures and routine scratches with the self-healing efficiency up to 90%, which are comparable to that of room-temperature self-healable counterparts. Spacer units with steric hindrance effect can facilitate segmental motions and dynamic changes of H-bonds. Meanwhile, the randomly distributed multiple H bonds crosslinking such spacers contribute to the good mech. performance and intriguing self-healing. In contrast to previous reports, this strategy provides an uncomplicated and cost-effective route to prepare robust elastomers that can self-heal at room temperature without any need of external assistance.

The effects of solvency and mole fraction of azobenzene moieties (fPAzoMA) on the photoresponsive and fluorescence behaviors of poly(acrylic acid)-block-poly(6-[4-(4′-methoxyphenylazo)phenoxy]hexyl methacrylate) (PAA-PAzoMA) amphiphilic diblock copolymers were investigated using UV-vis spectroscopy and fluorescence spectroscopy. The photoresponsive behavior depended strongly on the solvency and fPAzoMA. When dissolved in a PAA-selective solvent, PAA-PAzoMA formed micelles with PAzoMA in the micelle core. The confinement of azobenzene moieties caused a steric hindrance, thereby markedly reducing the kinetics of photoisomerization compared with that of the unconfined PAA-PAzoMA in a nonselective solvent. Addnl., PAA-PAzoMA dissolved in the PAA-selective solvent caused a blue shift of the maximum absorbance, suggesting the formation of H-aggregates of azobenzene mesogens. The high H-aggregate content substantially reduced the fluorescence emission. Consequently, the fluorescence emission of PAA-PAzoMA in the nonselective solvent was more intense than that in the PAA-selective solvent. Upon UV irradiation, the enhanced bent-shaped cis isomers disturbed the compact packing of azobenzene mesogens, which substantially enhanced the fluorescence emission. Both the photoisomerization rate and fluorescence emission decreased with an increase in fPAzoMA. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Polym. Sci., Part B: Polym. Phys. 2017.

As benchmarks for judging the catalytic power of sulfate monoesterases, we sought to determine the rates of spontaneous hydrolysis of unactivated alkyl sulfate monoesters by S-O bond cleavage. Neopentyl sulfate proved to be unsuitable for this purpose, since it was found to undergo hydrolysis by a C-O bond cleaving mechanism with rearrangement of its carbon skeleton. Instead, we examined the temperature dependence of the spontaneous hydrolyzes of aryl sulfate monoesters, which proceed by S-O cleavage. Extrapolation of a Bronsted plot [log(k25N) = (-1.81 ± 0.09) pKaLG + (3.6 ± 0.7)] based on the rate constants at 25 °C for hydrolysis of a series of sulfate monoesters to a pKaLG value of 16.1, typical of an aliphatic alc., yields k25N = 3 × 10-26 s-1. Comparison of that value with established kcat values of bacterial sulfatases indicates that these enzymes produce rate enhancements (kcat/kuncat) of up to 2 × 1026-fold for the hydrolysis of sulfate monoesters. These rate enhancements surpass by several orders of magnitude the ∼1021-fold rate enhancements that are generated by phosphohydrolases, the most powerful biol. catalysts previously known. The hydrolytic rates of phosphate and sulfate monoesters are compared directly, and the misleading impression that the two classes of ester are of similar reactivity is dispelled.

The photoreaction is stereoselective and the S,R-isomers are the major products (83%) whereas the S,S-isomers are the minor (6%). In addition, the irreversible formation of two oxidation products, 3-(2-benzoylbenzoyl)quinolin-4(1H)-ones, and acridin-12(5H)-one derivatives was observed in the presence of air.

Developing the active and environmentally friendly non-noble nano-catalysts is highly desired to transform biomass-derived platform into value chems. Herein, we report a low-cost and sustainable cobalt/nitrogen-doped carbon catalyst containing both metallic Co and Co-N components exhibits satisfying activity for the oxidative esterification of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural and other investigated alcs. in methanol without the base additive under mild conditions. Exptl. results show that an appropriate ratio of Co to Co-N is responsible for the high activity of the Co/Co-N/CN catalysts towards oxidative esterification. Theor. computational results demonstrate that the Co/Co-N group synergistically promotes electron transfer from the Co adatom to the surface oxygen atoms, facilitates O2 adsorption and activation on the Co sites, and further reduces the energy barrier for the oxidation of alcs. to aldehydes, all of which contribute to the overall activity of oxidative esterification of alcs. to the corresponding esters. In addition to exhibiting superior intrinsic activity, the as-prepared Co/Co-N/CN catalyst also shows excellent stability and recyclability.

We postulated that di-Me fumarate (DMF) exerts neuroprotective effects against depression-like behaviors through astrocytes and microglia modulation. To ascertain our hypothesis and define the mechanistic pathways involved in effect of DMF on neuroinflammation, we used the depression model induced by chronic unpredictable mild stress (CUMS), in which, the mice were exposed to stressful events for 28 days and from the 14th day they received DMF in the doses of 50 and 100 mg/kg or fluoxetine 10 mg/kg or saline. On the 29th day, the animals were subjected to behavioral tests. Microglia (Iba1) and astrocyte (GFAP) marker expressions were evaluated by immunofluorescence analyzes and the cytokines TNF-α and IL-Iβ by immunoenzymic assay. In addition, computational target prediction, 3D protein structure prediction, and docking calculations were performed with monomethyl fumarate (DMF active metabolite) and the Keap1 and HCAR2 proteins, which suggested that these could be the probable targets related protective effects. CUMS induced anxiety- and depressive-like behaviors, cognitive deficit, decreased GFAP, and increased Iba1, TNF-α, and IL-Iβ expression in the hippocampus. These alterations were reversed by DMF. Thus, it is suggested that one of the mechanisms involved in the antidepressant effect of DMF is neuroinflammatory suppression, through the signaling pathway HCAR2/Nrf2. However, more studies must be performed to better understand the mol. mechanisms of this drug.

In this article, the pyrolysis and thermo-oxidative degradation of five industrial waste products was carried out in a discontinuous quartz reactor at 550°C under the auto-catalytic effect of residues of titanium tetrachloride, triethylaluminium (TEAL), and iron (Fe). We using the coupled on-site anal. of an GC-MS/FID/PDHID with 7 valves and 8 columns in series. The study also discusses the effect of the concentration of the catalyst residuals with the Eac (activation energy) and the evolution of the profile of permanent oxygenated gases, hydrocarbons and sulfurs, as well as the functional waste groups from decomposition during pyrolysis and thermo-oxidative degradation The origin of the degradation and the beginnings of PP pyrolysis and thermo-oxidative degradation are explained by hydrolysis mechanisms and thermal reactions that imply successive reactions with these (TEAL), TiO2, and chloride residues, giving rise to Et radicals and explaining the formation of alcs., ketones, carboxylic acids, alkynes and alkenes. The study also found that the gaseous profiles are very consistent with the DTG curves and the Eac, in terms of the appearance of peaks and relevant stages throughout the total temperature range. The effect of Cl, Fe and TEAL on the PP degradation is very high upon passing from an inert to an oxidative atm. This reduces the content of hydrocarbons and oxygenates to CO2 between 49 and 66% because of the attack of the oxygen atom. In the pyrolysis the propylene content oscillates between 42 and 56%.

Each training system affecting the volatile concentration of wine is closely related to the specific growing conditions of grape. The aim of this work is to evaluate the influence of different training systems, such as crawled cordon training (CCT) and independent long-stem pruning (ILSP), on the volatile composition of Ecolly wine in Weibei Plateau region in three periods (July 31, August 10 and 24). Total aroma concentration (271.15 mg L-1) and Et octanoate concentration (84.60 mg L-1) were the highest for ILSP in August 24 in aroma compounds However, total aroma concentration of CCT exceeded the ILSP in July 31 and August 10, resp. ILSP could lead to higher acetate esters compared with CCT except for August 10. Ethanol esters were also strongly influenced by training systems in July 31 (CCT > ILSP) and August 24 (ILSP > CCT), except for slight influence in August 10. But other esters were not strongly impacted by training system. Despite the highest higher alcs. in ILSP in August 24, CCT still displayed significant higher concentration in the first two harvesting times than ILSP. Organic acids showed the same trend as higher alcs. in the experiment Odor activity values (OAVs) of the 16 aromas compounds showed similar results. Results have shown that CCT improved the accumulation of aroma compounds in early wine, if harvesting time need to be postponed, ILSP was also a suitable select. Whereas, a strongly suggestion of CCT was made because stabilization of yield and quality could be guaranteed by CCT annually.
