The crude was evaporated to dryness and purified by column chromatography eluting with DCM/NH3 2 M in MeOH (100:0 to 97:3). The product from both columns was slurried in MeOH (2.0 ml_) and filtered to give after drying the title compound as a white solid (62 mg, 11percent). LCMS (QC Acidic method): Rt = 2.59 min; [MH]+ = 206.0; >99.5percent purity 1H NMR (400 MHz; DMSO-cfe, d): 12.8 (1H, bs), 8.4 (1H, d), 7.6 (1H, bs), 7.0 (1H, bs), 5.5 (1H, bs) and 3.1 (6H, s)

To a suspension of the above ester (0.385 g, 1.10 mmol) in EtOH (10 ml) was added 2 M aqueous NaOH (7.5 ml). The reaction mixture was stirred at 60 ¡ãC for 1 h, then cooled, acidified by adding 2 M aqueous HCl and extracted with CHCl3. Usual work-up gave a residue, which was purified by recrystallization from EtOH to afford 7a (0.348 g, 94percent).
