In other words, an isolepidozene derivative might be a branchpoint to humulanes and germacranes; this transformation could be of, up to now, unknown, biosynthetic and/or synthetic relevance. Multivariate statistical anal. of the compositional data of C. conicum extract constituents was used to probe the hypothesized biochem. relations. The immunomodulatory effect of I-3 and conocephalenol (4) was evaluated in an in vitro model on both nonstimulated and mitogen-stimulated rat splenocytes. The compounds displayed varying degrees of cytotoxicity to nonstimulated splenocytes, whereas 2 and 3 were found to exert immunosuppressive effects on Con A-stimulated splenocytes while not being cytotoxic at the same concentrations

Hydrogen generation from water under sunlight illumination is the key to construct a sustainable and clean energy system. To date, the long-term stability of photoanodes based on colloidal quantum dots (QDs) for hydrogen generation remains a major challenge due to the degradation of the QDs and hole accumulation. The degradation is usually caused by the self-oxidation of QDs induced by UV radiation. Here, we propose a concept of integrating a luminescent solar concentrator (LSC) with a photoelectrochem. (PEC) cell into a standalone device to improve the stability of the PEC device for hydrogen generation by avoiding direct irradiation of UV light on PEC devices. In this study, CdSe/(CdSxSe1-x)5/CdS core/multi-shell QDs were used as a photosensitizer. The PEC device based on alloyed multi-shell QDs shows a saturated photocurrent d. of 11.5 mA cm-2 and maintains �6.2% of its initial value after 23 h of sunlight illumination (100 mW cm-2). PEC devices based on QDs coupled with an LSC exhibit a saturated photocurrent d. of 1.2 mA cm-2, and �4.6% of its initial value was retained after 23 h of continuous illumination, indicating a 420% enhancement compared to a PEC device alone. This finding proves a unique concept to improve the photo-stability of PEC devices by coupling with an LSC.

Pickering emulsions, water or oil droplets stabilized solely by solid particles, are attracting increasing attention, due to the fascinating possibilities for applications in food, pharmaceuticals and preparation of hybrid materials. In this paper, we report oil-in-water (O/W) Pickering emulsions stabilized solely by polymerization-induced self-assembly (PISA) synthesized diblock copolymer spherical nanoparticles. Poly(N,N-dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate)-b-poly(benzyl methacrylate) (PDMA-b-PBzMA) diblock copolymer nanoparticles with 20 wt% solid content were prepared in ethanol via RAFT dispersion polymerization Then PDMA-b-PBzMA nanoparticles were used as emulsifiers to prepare O/W Pickering emulsions by homogenization. The regulation of droplet size of the O/W Pickering emulsion was systemically investigated by adjusting the size of emulsifiers, the concentration of emulsifiers, and the ratio of oil/water. Moreover, Pickering emulsion polymerization was successfully applied to prepare poly (laurate methacrylate) microparticles. These results provide instructive insights to choose proper nanoparticles for the preparation of Pickering emulsions and control over the size of emulsion droplets.

Diblock copolymer nanoparticles have been shown to be Pickering emulsifiers for both oil-in-water and water-in-oil emulsions. Recently, we reported the preparation of sterically-stabilized diblock copolymer spheres in a low-viscosity silicone oil (Macromols. 53 (2020) 1785-1794). We hypothesized that such spheres could be used as a Pickering emulsifier for a range of oil-in-oil emulsions comprising droplets of a bio-sourced oil dispersed in silicone oil. Diblock copolymer spheres were prepared via reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) dispersion polymerization of benzyl methacrylate in silicone oil and characterized by dynamic light scattering and transmission electron microscopy. These spheres were evaluated as Pickering emulsifiers for a series of oil-in-oil Pickering emulsions. The influence of both sphere size and core-forming block composition was investigated. Optimization of the nanoparticle size and core-forming block composition enabled stable bio-sourced oil-in-silicone emulsions to be obtained for nine out of the ten bio-sourced oils investigated. These emulsions were characterized in terms of their mean droplet size by optical microscopy.
