The ubiquitous water vapor in industrial gas is a challenge for volatile organic compound (VOC) adsorbents. Herein, we have developed a strategy to improve the hydrophobicity and water stability of ZIF-67(Co) through internal and external modification. Through amine modification of the carrier surface rich in nanoscale roughness, the shape and size of ZIF-67(Co) are changed. ZIF-67(Co) is uniformly anchored on the macroporous surface of polyacrylates (PA) through interface coordination, forming a unique hierarchical porous structure. Compared with the original ZIF-67(Co), the toluene adsorption efficiency of ZIF-67(Co)@PA is increased by 2.75 times at 298 K and at a toluene partial pressure of P/P0 = 0.005. Furthermore, to inhibit undesired water adsorption due to the rich defect sites, hydrophobically modified ZIF-67(Co)@PA (yielding P-ZIF-67(Co)@PA) has also been prepared, which exhibits a slight decrease in toluene adsorption and maintains the advantages of low water vapor adsorption and high hydrophobicity to improve the water stability of ZIF-67(Co).

The double hydrophobic azobenzene-containing diblock copolymers, namely, poly(L-lactide)-b-poly[6-(4-(4-methoxyphenylazo)phenoxy)hexyl methacrylate] (PLLA-b-PMMAZO), were successfully prepared by sequential atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) and ring opening polymerization These block copolymers (BCPs) can self-assemble into various morphologies in aqueous solution via host-guest interaction between the azobenzene (azo) groups and methyl-β-cyclodextrin (β-CD). The complexation equilibrium between azo and β-CD can be shifted by changing the length of the hydrophobic PLLA block, the micelle concentration or the β-CD/azo molar ratio; thus the micellar morphol. and the size of the PLLA-b-PMMAZO/β-CD complexes are altered. A vesicle-to-sphere-to-entrapped vesicle transition was observed at β-CD/azo = 1 as the PLLA block length increases. In addition, a large β-CD/azo ratio or higher micelle concentration leads to a vesicle-like morphol., while entrapped vesicles tend to be formed at a smaller β-CD/azo ratio or a lower micelle concentration It is found that prolongation of the UV irradiation time can also induce a vesicle-to-sphere-to-entrapped vesicle transition of the micellar morphol. Such a transition is reversible upon irradiation of visible light. In summary, the self-assembly behavior of PLLA-b-PMMAZO/β-CD complexes can be readily regulated by different methods. Moreover, the complexation between the azo groups and β-CD is inhomogeneous, which is responsible for the formation of entrapped vesicles and the microphase separation in the core of the spherical micelles and entrapped vesicles.

Fusing 1,6-diene with allylic sulfide or allylic sulfone motifs enabled a ring-closing/ring-opening cascade reaction that provides a strong driving force for the ring-opening polymerization of large macrocyclic monomers. The ability of 1,6-diene-fused allylic sulfone to undergo efficient SO2 extrusion generated a propagating alkyl radical capable of reversible deactivation. This strategy provides a general platform for the synthesis of polymers incorporating complex main-chain structures and degradable functionalities.

Here, we developed a method to simultaneously determine the concentrations of multiple LWM thiols in single cells by chem. derivatization assisted liquid chromatog.-mass spectrometry (LC-MS). In this method, we synthesized a pair of stable isotope reagents, N-(acridin-9-yl)-2-bromoacetamide (AYBA) and N-(1,2,3,4-[2H4]-acridin-9-yl)-2-bromoacetamide ([2H4]AYBA). AYBA was used to derivatize LWM thiols in human cervical cancer (HeLa) cells, while [2H4]AYBA was used to derivatize standard LWM thiols to prepare internal standards for the LC-MS method development. The proposed AYBA derivatization greatly enhanced the detection sensitivity of LWM thiols by LC-MS, and thereby achieved the simultaneous detection of multiple LWM thiols by LC-MS in ∼1000 HeLa cells. Finally, the developed method was successfully utilized for the quant. anal. of multiple LWM thiols in a single HeLa cell and the content changes of LWM thiols in a single HeLa cell before and after oxidative stress treatment. Accordingly, six LMW thiols were detected, including cysteamine, cysteine, glutathione, homocysteine, hydrogen sulfide, and pantetheine.
