We herein report highly chemoselective transfer hydrogenation of alpha,beta-unsaturated carbonyl compounds to saturated carbonyls with formic acid as a hydrogen donor over a stable and recyclable heterogeneous Pd nano particles (NPs) on N,O-dual doped hierarchical porous biomass-derived carbon. The synergistic effect between Pd NPs and incorporated heteroatoms on carbon plays a critical role on promoting the reaction efficiency. A series of alpha,beta-aromatic and aliphatic unsaturated carbonyl compounds was selectively reduced to their corresponding saturated carbonyls in up to 97% isolated yields with good tolerance of various functional groups. In addition, the catalyst can be successively reused for at least 6 times without significant loss in reaction efficiency.

In the present study, the modification of a mesoporous organosilica nanocomposite SBA-15 (Santa Barbara Amorphous 15) was carried out in two steps, first through the surface functionalization of SBA-Pr-NH(2)with 2-chloroquinoline-3-carbaldehyde to form SBA-Pr-NCQ, and then through a post-modification process with palladium ions. The target nanocompound structure of SBA-Pr-NCQ-Pd was characterized by different techniques (thermogravimetric analysis, X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy). The catalytic performance of the porous inorganic-organic hybrid nanocomposite (SBA-Pr-NCQ-Pd) in one of the most important carbon-carbon bond-forming processes, the Mizoroki-Heck coupling reaction of aryl halides and methacrylate in water/ethanol media, was examined. Compared to previous reports, this protocol afforded some advantages, such as high yields of products, short reaction times, catalyst stability without leaching, simple methodology, easy workup, and greener conditions. Also, the nanocatalyst can be easily separated from the reaction mixture and reused several times without a significant decrease in activity and promises economic as well as environmental benefits.

A new triazole-functionalized tetracarboxylic acid ligand (H4L) has been synthesized and utilized for the fabrication of a 3D Zn-II organic framework with a Zn-4(-COO)(6) cluster as the secondary building unit. The framework exhibits very good thermal stability and consists of dual functionalities of exposed Lewis acidic metal sites and accessible nitrogen-donor Lewis basic sites. The Ginkgo biloba metabolite bilobalide is widely ingested by humans but its effect on the mammalian central nervous system is not fully understood(1-4). Antagonism of gamma-aminobutyric acid A receptors (GABA(A)Rs) by bilobalide has been linked to the rescue of cognitive deficits in mouse models of Down syndrome(5). A lack of convulsant activity coupled with neuroprotective effects have led some to postulate an alternative, unidentified target(4); however, steric congestion and the instability of bilobalide(1,2,6) have prevented pull-down of biological targets other than the GABA(A)Rs. A concise and flexible synthesis of bilobalide would facilitate the development of probes for the identification of potential new targets, analogues with differential selectivity between insect and human GABA(A)Rs, and stabilized analogues with an enhanced serum half-life(7). Here we exploit the unusual reactivity of bilobalide to enable a late-stage deep oxidation that symmetrizes the molecular core and enables oxidation states to be embedded in the starting materials. The same overall strategy may be applicable to G. biloba congeners, including the ginkgolides-some of which are glycine-receptor-selective antagonists(8). A chemical synthesis of bilobalide should facilitate the investigation of its biological effects and its therapeutic potential.

In order to discover more potent antifungal, a series of 2-aryl-3,4-dihydroisoquinolin-2-iums were reasonable designed and productive synthesized by introducing benzoic acid and phenol pharmacophores into the 2-position of isoquinoline. Their structures were identified by NMR and HRMS. The preliminary in vitro antifungal results showed that most of the title compounds exhibited moderate to significant inhibitory activities against various phytopathogenic fungi at 50 mu g.mL(-1), and were equal to controls (chlorothalonil, carbendazim). The concentration of 50% inhibition rate (EC50]) of 2-(3-ethoxycarbonyl-phenyl)-3,4-dihydroisoquinolin-2-ium (4j) against R. solani was 3.8495 mu g.mL(-1), which was significantly superior to chlorothalonil (4.6328 mu g.mL(-1)). All the EC50 values of 5 compounds (7.4583 similar to 15.4495 mu g.mL(-1)) against R. cerealis were better than chlorothalonil (16.0137 mu g.mL(-1)), and 2-(4-methoxycarbonylphenyl)-3,4-dihydroisoquinolin-2-ium (4f) is the best one. The present results provide valuable information for development of plant-based antifungal agents.

Disubstituted pendant-functionalized block copolymer consisting of insulating polynorbornene and conductive polyacetylene segments was synthesized by tandem metathesis polymerization, and displayed high dielectric constant of 30 and low dielectric loss of about 0.04, while behaved bad film-forming property, which could be improved by incorporating polycyclooctene into polynorbomene backbone. The generated flexible block copolymer with well-defined nanostructure exhibited a relatively high dielectric constant of 23, very low dielectric loss of below 0.0035, and high stored and released energy densities up to 4.52 and 4.02 J cm(-3) at the electric field of 165 MV m(-1),respectively, accompanied with the charge-discharge efficiency of 90%. The enhanced dielectric and energy storage capability were attributed to high permanent dipole moment and the interfacial polarization derived from the unique nanomorphology of block copolymer.

A mild and efficient protocol for the intramolecular aromatic C-H oxygenation of 2-biphenylcarboxylic acids has been achieved via iron photocatalysis. The 2-biphenylcarboxylic acids with a diverse array of substituents at both phenyl rings could furnish the oxygenation products in good to excellent yields. We speculate that the aryl carboxylate-iron(III) complexes should generate the aroyloxy radicals and iron(II) upon visible light irradiation.

By using 2-fluoro-substituted diaryliodonium salts, a novel benzocylization has been accomplished for the synthesis of 3,4-benzocoumarin derivatives via a cascade of ortho-arylation and defluorination in the presence of palladium catalysts. The reaction exhibits a broad compatibility of readily available aromatic acids with an excellent level of site-selectivity. Mechanistic investigations revealed a unique reactivity of carboxylic acid directed arylation by followed nucleophilic substitution of aromatic fluoride in the present system.

Nano-ferrite-supported Cu nanoparticles (Fe-dopamine-Cu NPs) catalyzed anti-Markovnikov-selective hydroboration of alkenes with B(2)pin(2) is reported under mild reaction conditions. This protocol can be applied to a broad range of substrates with high functional group compatibility. In addition, we demonstrated the use of Fe-dopamine-Cu NPs as a catalyst for the beta-borylation of alpha,beta-unsaturated ketones and ester, providing alkylboronate esters in up to 98% yield. Reuse of the magnetically recyclable catalyst resulted in no significant loss of activity in up to five reaction runs for both systems.
