We found that in situ generated cerium(IV) carboxylate generated by mixing the precursor Ce((OBu)-Bu-t)(4) with the corresponding carboxylic acids served as efficient photocatalysts for the direct formation of carboxyl radicals from carboxylic acids under blue light-emitting diodes (blue LEDs) irradiation and air, resulting in catalytic decarboxylative oxygenation of aliphatic carboxylic acids to give C-O bond-forming products such as aldehydes and ketones. Control experiments revealed that hexanuclear Ce(IV) carboxylate clusters initially formed in the reaction mixture and the ligand-to-metal charge transfer nature of the Ce(IV) carboxylate clusters was responsible for the high catalytic performance to transform the carboxylate ligands to the carboxyl radical. In addition, the Ce(IV) carboxylate cluster catalyzed direct lactonization of 2-isopropylbenzoic acid to produce the corresponding peroxy lactone and gamma-lactone via intramolecular 1,5-hydrogen atom transfer (1,5-HAT).

Guillermo Calleja and co-workers from @urjc describe URJC-1-MOF as a new heterogeneous recyclable catalyst for c-heteroatom coupling reactions The capacity of copper-based URJC-1-MOF as a MOF catalyst in cross-coupling reactions has been evaluated, focusing on the Chan-Lam-Evans arylation-type reactions on amines and alcohols without extra additives or ligands. The extraordinary chemical and structural stability of URJC-1-MOF and its good specific surface, make this material a promising alternative to homogeneous Cu (II) catalysts for cross-coupling reactions. URJC-1-MOF showed a remarkable catalytic activity for cross-coupling C-N and C-O reactions, higher than other heterogeneous and homogeneous copper-based catalyst, such as CuO, HKUST-1, Cu-MOF-74, Cu(OAc)(2) and CuSO4.5H(2)O. Moreover, its easy recovery by simple filtration and reusability in successive runs without any loss of activity and stability, demonstrates the potential of URJC-1-MOF as an alternative catalyst for this kind of reactions in different chemical media of industrial interest.

We report the [Ru(p-cymene)(L-proline)Cl] ([Ru1])-catalyzed cyclization of 1,4,2-dioxazol-5-ones to form dihydroquinoline-2-ones in excellent yields with excellent regioselectivity via a formal intramolecular arene C(sp(2))-H amidation. The reactions of the 2- and 4-substituted aryl dioxazolones proceeds initially through spirolactamization via electrophilic amidation at the arene site, which is para or ortho to the substituent. A Hammett correlation study showed that the spirolactamization is likely to occur by electrophilic nitrenoid attack at the arene, which is characterized by a negative rho value of -0.73.

Two new rtl-MOFs rtl-[Cu(HIsa-az-dmpz)] and rtl-[Zn(HIsa-az-dmpz)] have been synthesized by using the new bifunctional ligand 5-(4-(3,5-dimethyl-1H-pyrazolyl)azo)isophthalic acid (H(3)Isa-az-dmpz). Both frameworks are potentially porous structures with DMF molecules included in the channels of the as synthesized materials. The flexible MOF rtl-[Cu(HIsa-az-dmpz)] undergoes a reversible phase change into a closed form upon activation. Consequently, rtl-[Cu(HIsa-az-dmpz)] shows S-shaped Type F-IV adsorption profiles or a gate-opening effect at cryogenic temperatures with high saturation uptakes of 360 cm(3) g(-1) for N-2 at 77 K and 310 cm(3) g(-1) for CO2 at 195 K. These profiles together with the reversibility could be reproduced upon repeated measurements on the same materials. The gravimetric high-pressure CO2 adsorption shows a gate-opening at similar to 10 bar with an uptake of 332 mg g(-1). rtl-[Zn(HIsa-az-dmpz)] undergoes an irreversible transformation into a non-porous phase upon activation.

Direct hydrogen atom transfer from a photoredox-generated Hantzsch ester radical cation to electron-deficient alkenes has enabled the development of an efficient formal hydrogenation under mild, operationally simple conditions. The HAT-driven mechanism is supported by experimental and computational studies. The reaction is applied to a variety of cinnamate derivatives and related structures, irrespective of the presence of electron-donating or electron-withdrawing substituents in the aromatic ring and with good functional group compatibility.

Category: esters-buliding-blocks, Reprint Addresses Matsuo, J (corresponding author), Kanazawa Univ, Grad Sch Med Sci, Div Pharmaceut Sci, Kakuma Machi, Kanazawa, Ishikawa 9201192, Japan.. Regioselectivity for intramolecular Diels-Alder (IMDA) reactions of 6-acetoxy-6-alkenylcyclohexa-2,4-dien-1-ones that were formed by oxidation of 2-alkenylphenols with lead tetraacetate in acetic acid were studied. Bridged regioselectivity was observed in the IMDA reactions of 6-acetoxy-6-alkenylcyclohexa-2,4-dien-1-ones having a dienophile part which could conjugate with an aromatic group. Bridged seven-and eight-membered rings and bicyclo[2.2.2]octane skeletons were constructed by the present IMDA reactions. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations suggested that conjugation of the dienophile with neighboring aromatic groups lowered the highest occupied molecular orbital-lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (HOMO-LUMO) energy gap and preceded bridged [4 + 2] adducts.

By using the reduced Schiff base tricarboxylate ligand H(3)cip, one novel 3D Cd-based coordination polymer (Cd-CP) with the formula [Cd(Hcip)(bpea)(0.5)(H2O)](n) (H(3)cip = 5-(3-carboxybenzylamino)isophthalic acid, bpea = 1,2-bis(4-pyridyl)ethane) has been solvothermally synthesized. The prepared Cd-CP possesses a 4-connected CdSO4 net based on dinuclear {Cd-2} units. Luminescence measurements revealed that the complex exhibited ratiometric turn-on luminescence responses toward Al3+ and Cr3+ with a significant color change, which could be easily distinguished by the naked eye under ultraviolet light. Cd-CP can also respond to Fe3+ through a turn-off mechanism. Interestingly, the luminescence quenched by Fe3+@Cd-CP can be recovered and increased significantly by adding some competitive Al3+, while Cr3+ can only marginally increase the luminescence intensity of Fe3+@Cd-CP. Moreover, the detection of the three aforementioned metal ions can be realized by using Cd-CP-coated test papers, extending the potential application regions of the reported material to point-of-care tests and environmental field studies.

Development of a facile and greener approach for Heck reaction using a modified PAN supported palladium catalyst is described. The preparation of the catalyst involves a simple process through amidoxime modification of nitrile group in Polyacrylonitrile (PAN), followed by the complexation with Palladium chloride (PdCl2). The resulting supported catalyst was characterized by spectroscopic analyses and further by computational studies. This polymer supported Palladium complex displayed excellent catalytic activity in Heck coupling reaction of a series of activated alkenes and aryl halides and afforded the corresponding coupling products upto 96% isolated yield. After the reaction, the catalyst was easily recovered by simple filtration and recycled with excellent stability and activity even after 5 runs. This is the first report on the use of amidoxime functionalized PAN-Palladium (II) complex as a heterogeneous catalyst in Heck coupling reaction.
