A Cd(II)-based metal-organic framework as fluorescent chemical sensor, formulated as {[Cd-3(bmipia)(2)]center dot 10DMF center dot 5H(2)O}(n) (FCS-2), was synthesized through a hydrothermal process and structurally characterized via X-ray crystallography. FCS-2 represented a new three-dimensional framework assembled from a semi -rigid aromatic carboxylate ligand and exhibited fascinating fluorescence due to the highly crystalline and ordered molecular structure. The emission of FCS-2 could be quenched, interestingly, by the presence of trace 2,4,6-trinitrophenol, which indicated that FCS-2 can be applied as a potentially sensitive fluorescent chemical sensor for the detection of nitroaromatic compounds.

Direct selective oxidative esterification of readily available alcohols under mild conditions is an attractive approach to synthesis valuable esters. Developing high performance catalyst is the key factor to the efficient esters synthesis. We report graphene supported Au-Pd alloy catalyst exhibits excellent catalytic performance in the synthesis of methyl benzoate from benzyl alcohol and methanol, a turnover frequency (TOF) of 230 h(-1) and selectivity of 100% to methyl benzoate were achieved under 1 atm O-2 at 25 degrees C, which is superior to the majority of the state-of-the-art catalysts. Experimentally observed volcano-like reactivity trends and DFT calculations prove the outstanding performance was mainly ascribed to unique electronic structures of AuPd alloy catalyst for the adsorption and activation of reactant molecules. The catalytic reaction mechanism for interpretation of the structure-activity relationships of various catalysts at molecular level was investigated. The present study could help to unravel the synergistic effect of Au-Pd catalyst and provides a mild and efficient route for synthesis high-value esters in terms of green and sustainable chemistry.

Solid acid catalysts are environmentally friendly alternatives to the use of mineral acids in a range of applications, including the esterification of carboxylic acids. Here, a phosphorus- and nitrogen-doped, carbon-modified, fully heterogeneous solid acid catalyst was prepared by pyrolysis of a mixture of melamine and tungstophosphoric acid at 250, 500, and 750 degrees C under a nitrogen atmosphere provided. The structure of the different catalysts was evaluated by surface area measurements, XRD, XPS, Raman spectroscopy, elemental analysis, and electron microscopies. Pyrolysis at 500 degrees C created complex solid materials with larger surface area and significantly higher acidity, which can be attributed to WO3 formation on a heteroatomic (N,P)-carbon structure. The 500 degrees C-treated heterogeneous catalysts showed remarkably better activity for esterification of palmitic acid and were thus applied in the esterification of a broad range of carboxylic acids with good overall yields. Furthermore, the solid acid catalyst can be easily recovered and recycled up to eight times without significant loss of activity with no leaching of species to the reaction mixture.

BACKGROUND Thrips Anaphothrips obscurus are one of the cosmopolitan major pests feeding on cereals and other grasses. In order to develop alternatives of chemical insecticides for thrips control, based on fumigant activity screening and evaluation of 22 essential oil (EO) compounds against the thrips, the binary interactions of methyl salicylate and carvacrol (MS-C) with high fumigant toxicity were studied systematically by bioassay and field trials. RESULTS The bioassay results showed that six in 22 EO compounds had high fumigant toxicity against both the second-instar nymphs and adults of A. obscurus, including methyl salicylate, carvacrol, thymol, trans-cinnamaldehyde, diallyl trisulfide, and L-perillaldehyde. Furthermore, the combination of methyl salicylate mixed with carvacrol at a volume ratio of 5:5 exhibited the most significant synergism against A. obscurus, with a poison ratio value of 1.32 and a co-toxicity coefficient of 151.15. The optimal formulation of microemulsion (ME) was composed of 5% methyl salicylate, 5% carvacrol, 46% adjuvant and 44% deionized water. The result of dynamic light scattering and stability showed that MS-C 10% ME was a transparent, single-phase and homogeneous liquid system. Field trials indicated that the ME displayed a significant control efficacy of about 89.17% on thrips in peppers, and 82.59% in broad bean on the seventh day post application with a dosage of 600.0 g A.I hm(-2), respectively. CONCLUSION The binary combination of MS-C possesses strikingly synergistic action against thrips A. obscurus, and the MS-C 10% ME has the potential to be developed as a botanical pesticide product for thrips control. The current study evaluated the key characters of aroma composition in diversified red wines (Cinsaut, Grenache, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Nielluccio, Tempranillo, Syrah, Merlot and Caladoc). Out of hundreds of volatile compounds 64 compounds were considered for study. Different groups consisting of fatty acids, volatile alcohols, aldehydes, esters, volatile phenols and terpenes were analysed using gas chromatography mass spectrometry coupled with thermal desorption (TD-GC-MS). Among all these diversified classes, alcohols were found as the most dominant group followed by esters and acids whereas aldehydes, phenols and terpenes were found to be minor compounds. Among the varieties, Nielluccio wine recorded highest concentration of total volatile compounds (191.53 mg/L) while, it was least in Caladoc wines (15.45 mg/L). The principal component analysis clearly differentiated Grenache wines based on their relationships between scores and their aroma composition followed by Nielluccio and Cinsuat wines. Out of sixty four compounds, only six aromatic compounds viz. butanediol, isoamyl actate, gamma-Terpene, butanol, acetic acid and furfural have satisfying aroma descriptors with floral and fruity nuances and contribute to differentiate the Grenache wines from other varieties which have similar scores in PC1 analysis. The cluster analysis also suggested that the wines in the same group (Cinsaut, Tempranillo and Syrah), (Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Caladoc and Merlot) and (Nielluccio and Petit Verdot) had similar aroma characterization. Grenache wines were well differentiated from the sub group formed by other red varieties.

An inexpensive, mild, and highly efficient epoxidation protocol has been developed involving bubbling SO2F2 gas into a solution of olefin, 30% aqueous hydrogen peroxide, and 4 N aqueous potassium carbonate in 1,4-dioxane at room temperature for 1 h with the formation of the corresponding epoxides in good to excellent yields. The genus Ocimum displays excellent variability among the species and sub-species due to the highly crosspollinated nature and interspecific hybridization. The present investigation was carried out to identify the commercially promising growth stage(s) in different Ocimum for exatraction of oil and bioactive compounds at heighest. A set of three cultivated species were evaluated to study the variation in morpho-physiological traits and essential oil composition harvested at three stages namely vegetative, flowering and seed setting stage. The experiment was conducted for three consecutive years in factorial randomized complete block design with three replicates. The analysis of variance exhibited that the individual effect of Ocimum species and growth stage along with their interaction effect was significant in all the morpho-physiological parameters and bioactive constituent of oil in a pooled analysis. Highest plant height (103.95 cm) was observed in O. gratissimum L. harvested at seed setting stage while harvesting at flowering stage exhibited maximum leaf area (26.80 cm(2)), oil (0.52 %) and eugenol content (85.82 %). Sweet basil harvested at seed setting stage disclosed maximum branches per plant (21.53) and leaves per plant (4949) although linalool content (47.99 %) was found highest in harvested at flowering stage. O. basilicum L. was detected a great source of methyl chavicol (7.48 %) though this species was weaker source for methyl cinnamate. Among the studied species, O. gratissimum showed a negligible amount of methyl eugenol content in oil. A positive correlation between the morpho-physiological traits, oil content and its constituents with the various growth stages were recorded. None of bioactive compounds exhibited any correlation with oil content. Principle component analysis revealed that of the total variation, O. gratissimum contributed maximum (61.58 %) variation followed by O. basilicum (35.36 %). The results of current study suggested that the different Ocimum species can be harvest at various growth stages to get the maximum yield and target chemical compounds based on the needy industrial value.

Objectives: The incidence of acute kidney injury (AKI) in infective endocarditis (IE), its risk factors and consequences on patient and renal survival remain debated. Methods: Patients hospitalized for a first episode of IE (possible or definite according to modified Duke criteria) between 2013 and 2016 were included. The primary endpoint was to determine risk factors for early AKI (E-AKI) during the first week of management of IE. Results: A total of 276 patients were included: 220 (79.7%) had definite IE and 56 (20.3%) had possible IE. E-AKI occurred in 150 patients (53%). IE due to Staphylococcus aureus (OR 3.41; 95% CI 1.83-6.39; p < 0.01), history of diabetes (OR 2.34; 95% CI 1.25-4.37; p < 0.01), peripheral arterial disease (OR 2.59; 95% CI 1.07-6.23; p < 0.05), immunological manifestations (OR 3.11; 95% CI 1.31-7.39; p = 0.01), and use of norepinephrine (OR 3.44; 95% CI 1.72-7.02; p < 0.01) were associated with E-AKI. In subgroup analysis, infectious disease consultation was associated with a lower risk of AKI at day 7 (OR 0.41; 95% CI 0.16-0.88; p = 0.04). E-AKI was associated with 1-year mortality (OR 1.65; 95% CI 1.03-2.64; p = 0.04) and chronic kidney disease progression (OR 2.23; 95% CI 1.30-3.82; p < 0.01). Conclusions: E-AKI is common in IE and often associated with non-modifiable variables. Multidisciplinary management should be mandatory, and awareness of AKI diagnosis and etiological explorations should be raised. (C) 2020 The Authors. Many classical and emerging methodologies in organic chemistry rely on carbon dioxide (CO2) extrusion to generate reactive intermediates for bond-forming events. Synthetic reactions that involve the microscopic reverse-the carboxylation of reactive intermediates-have conventionally been undertaken using very different conditions. We report that chemically stable C(sp(3)) carboxylates, such as arylacetic acids and malonate half-esters, undergo uncatalyzed reversible decarboxylation in dimethylformamide solution. Decarboxylation-carboxylation occurs with substrates resistant to protodecarboxylation by Bronsted acids under otherwise identical conditions. Isotopically labeled carboxylic acids can be prepared in high chemical and isotopic yield by simply supplying an atmosphere of (CO2)-C-13 to carboxylate salts in polar aprotic solvents. An understanding of carboxylate reactivity in solution enables conditions for the trapping of aldehydes, ketones, and alpha,beta-unsaturated esters.

A visible light mediated oxidative lactonization of 2-methyl-1,1′-biaryls was developed, giving benzocoumarins in good yields. The reaction features multiple C-H functionalization processes with oxygen as the final oxidant.
