Durrani, Timur published the artcileSolvent-based paint and varnish removers: a focused toxicologic review of existing and alternative constituents, Application In Synthesis of 627-93-0, the publication is Journal of Applied Toxicology (2020), 40(10), 1325-1341, database is CAplus and MEDLINE.

Paint and varnish removers constitute a major potential source of organic solvent exposure to contractors and home improvement enthusiasts. Unfortunately, the leading paint remover formulations have traditionally contained, as major ingredients, chems. classified as probable human carcinogens (eg, methylene chloride) or reproductive toxicants (eg, N-methylpyrrolidone). In addition, because of its unique toxicol. (ie, hepatic conversion to carbon monoxide compounding generic solvent narcosis and arrythmogenesis), high volatility, and rigorous requirements for personal protective equipment, methylene chloride exposures from paint removers have been linked to numerous deaths involving both occupational and consumer usage. The aim of this review is to summarize the known toxicol. of solvent-based paint remover constituents (including those found in substitute formulations) in order to provide health risk information to regulators, chem. formulators, and end-users of this class of products, and to highlight any data gaps that may exist.

The dicarbonylation of 1,3-butadiene to adipic acid derivatives offers the potential for a more cost-efficient and environmentally benign industrial process. However, the complex reaction network of regioisomeric carbonylation and isomerization pathways, make a selective and direct transformation particularly difficult. Here, we report surprising solvent effects on this palladium-catalyzed process in the presence of 1,2-bis-di-tert-butylphosphin-oxylene (dtbpx) ligands, which allow adipate diester formation from 1,3-butadiene, carbon monoxide, and methanol with 97% selectivity and 100% atom-economy under scalable conditions. Under optimal conditions a variety of di- and triesters from 1,2- and 1,3-dienes can be obtained in good to excellent yields.

Adipic acid is the most important of the com. available aliphatic dicarboxylic acids. It is obtained industrially from cyclohexanone and/or cyclohexanol by oxidation with nitric acid(V). One of the byproducts of the process is nitrous oxide, which is difficult to utilize. In this paper we propose an alternative method of adipic acid synthesis. In the first stage, cyclohexene is oxidized with hydrogen peroxide to epoxide, which hydrolyzes to 1,2-cyclohexanediol that in the second stage is then oxidized with oxygen. From an environmental point of view, this two-stage method can offer a significant and attractive reduction of N2O production compared to the industrial methods. We apply a simple catalytic system composed of transition metal compounds and HNO3 or organic nitrites, to the second stage of adipic acid synthesis synthesis, namely 1,2-cyclohexenediol oxidation using oxygen.

The present paper describes the novel aliphatic polyamide 6 (PA6) copolyamides by the melt polymerization reaction of our newly synthesized aliphatic diamine monomer: N1,N6-Bis-(2-aminoethyl)adipamide (BAEA). The BAEA/CHDA (1,4-cyclohexanedicarboxylic acid) salt was prepared by pertinent long-chain polyamide with the cycloaliphatic ring and isolated as white solid, utterly characterized for the first time. The chem. structure of BAEA, BAEA/CHDA salt and copolyamides (PA6-BAEA/CHDA) was identified by 1H NMR and FT-IR spectroscopy. Depending on the chem. compositions, the viscosity and mol. weight of the copolyamides were in the range of 19,447-13,536 g mol-1 and 2.74-2.2 dL g-1. With increasing BAEA/CHDA salt molar ratio in the synthesized copolyamides, their melting temperatures (Tm) decreased from 212.7 to 170.4 °C, and the glass transition temperatures (Tg) increased from 60 to 89.4 °C. Besides, the as-synthesized all copolyamides possess nearly similar thermal stability (Td-50% = 439.59 – 443.38 °C) as neat PA6. Mech. testing data revealed that with an increase in a proportion of BAEA/CHDA salt, Young’s modulus of copolyamides is increased from 698.54 to 1093.89 MPa, while the tensile strength is increased by 8.1%.

Jinzhou shrimp paste is a traditional Chinese fermented seafood product manufactured from northern mauxia shrimp (Acete chinensis) and salt. The aims of this study were to detect the bacterial community succession using high-throughput sequencing and the volatile compound changes using headspace solid-phase microextraction combined with gas chromatog.-mass spectrometry during shrimp paste fermentation The results show that various bacterial communities appeared in the fermentation process. Pseudoalteromonas and unclassified Pseudoalteromonadaceae were the dominant genera but quickly replaced by Tetragenococcus after 1 mo of fermentation Staphylococcus, Oceanobacillus and unclassified Bacillaceae became the predominant genera as fermentation progressed. In addition, a total of 25 volatile compounds were identified, including aldehydes, ketones, alcs., esters, pyrazines, acids, and sulfides. Correlation anal. indicated that the bacteria Pseudoalteromonas, Staphylococcus, and Oceanobacillus were important in the formation of volatile compounds Pseudoalteromonas pos. correlated with ketones, alcs., esters, and acids; Staphylococcus pos. correlated with aldehydes and acids; and Oceanobacillus pos. correlated with aldehydes and pyrazines. These findings not only reveal the dynamics of the bacterial community and volatile compounds in the fermentation process, but also indicate their inter-relationships during shrimp paste fermentation

Aubrecht, Jaroslav published the artcileEnhanced activity of Cu/SiO2 and Cu/ZrO2 catalysts in dimethyl adipate hydrogenolysis, COA of Formula: C8H14O4, the publication is Catalysis Today, database is CAplus.

According to green chem. principles, the process of ester hydrogenolysis is not sustainable. It is catalyzed by Adkins CuCr2O3 catalyst that brings some environmental risks. Therefore, a design of new environmentally-friendly hydrogenolysis catalysts is highly desired. We investigated eight catalysts prepared using two methods – incipient wetness impregnation (IWI) and chemisorption-hydrolysis (CH) – with a combination of two types of supports – ZrO2 and two types of SiO2. The preparation method affects significantly the dispersion of the resulting copper phase in case of SiO2, and CH is essential to obtain very small and active Cu particles. On the other hand, when ZrO2 is used, the most critical aspect is its sp. surface area, and a highly dispersed copper phase is formed on the high sp. surface area sample, both for CH and IWI preparation methods. All eight prepared catalysts were investigated in di-Me adipate hydrogenolysis to compare their activity and selectivity. Nice correlation between support – synthesis method – activity was found. ZrO2-based catalysts and CH resulted in more active catalysts compared to SiO2-based ones and IWI. Interestingly, Cu/SiO2 catalyst prepared by CH was more selective to the main reaction product hexane-1,6-diol due to the presence of acid sites. In this paper, the catalyst hydrogenolysis activity was increased twice, compared to our previous experiments using Cu/ZnO prepared by deposition-precipitation

Deb, Prashanta Kumar published the artcileVariation in chemical constituents, in-vitro bioactivity and toxicity profile among different parts of Clerodendrum glandulosum Lindl. (C. colebrookianum Walp.), Recommanded Product: Dimethyl adipate, the publication is South African Journal of Botany (2021), 50-61, database is CAplus.

In this study, chem., biol. and toxicity profile of hydromethanolic extracts of different parts (leaf, stem and root) of Clerodendrum glandulosum Lindl. were investigated simultaneously for the first time. Total phenolic and flavonoid contents were estimated spectrophotometrically. Untargeted metabolomics was performed using GC-MS and HPLC-PDA-MS to identify the individual secondary metabolites. Antioxidant potentials (DPPH, ABTS, FRAP, phosphomolybdenum, superoxide ion scavenging assay) were estimated and enzyme inhibition assays (α-glucosidase, α-amylase, pancreatic lipase, xanthine oxidase, angiotensin-converting enzyme) were performed. Cytotoxicity of the extracts in HepG2 and L6 cell lines along with acute oral toxicity was carried out. Leaf extract exhibited the highest phenolic (282.02 ± 5.87 mg GAE/g) and flavonoid (276.74 ± 5.08 mg QCE/g) content. Significantly (p<0.05) high antioxidant and enzyme inhibition potential was found in leaf extract as compared to stem and root. Leaf extract (IC50: 104.11 ± 0.36 μg/mL) exhibited comparatively better inhibition potential than standard inhibitor acarbose (IC50: 232.57 ± 3.28 μg/mL) against α-glucosidase enzyme. Chem. anal. confirmed the presence of verbascoside in all the three parts, whereas caffeic acid, other verbascoside derivatives, scutellarin, luteolin, and apigenin were identified in leaf. No cytotoxicity was demonstrated except by stem extract at higher concentration (1000 μg/mL). However, no in-vivo toxicity was demonstrated by extracts of any parts. These findings provides a brief overview on the chem. and biol. propensities of C. glandulosum Lindl. with possibility of its use in the management of various ailments.
