And the article contained the following:

Organic UV absorbents (OUVAs) in the environment have been of increasing concern because of their potential hazards. However, the OUVAs in waters is far from being well studied and little is known about their occurrence in small urban rivers. This study investigated the concentrations and distribution of eleven OUVAs in the sediments from five small urban rivers of Tianjin, China, and found total concentrations in the range of 11.6-189 ng/g dry weight Relative to other rivers and lakes, no high concentrations of sediment OUVAs were observed in the small rivers. Benzophenone, homosalate and octocrylene were the dominant OUVAs, representing medians of 13.3%, 12.4% and 12.3% of the total concentrations, resp. Our observed composition profiles of these chems. were different from those found in most of other waters. The sediment OUVAs may originate more from industrial activities than the use of cosmetics and personal care products in this area. The risk to aquatic organisms from exposure to the sediment OUVAs in these small urban rivers was considered low, except for benzophenone. However, more researches are needed to investigate the pollution and associated risks of these chems. in urban rivers due to the complexity of their toxicity to aquatic organisms. On June 5, 2020, Yang, Haohan; Lu, Guanghua; Yan, Zhenhua; Liu, Jianchao; Dong, Huike; Bao, Xuhui; Zhang, Xiadong; Sun, Yu published an article.Reference of 2-Ethylhexyl 2-cyano-3,3-diphenylacrylate The title of the article was Residues, bioaccumulation, and trophic transfer of pharmaceuticals and personal care products in highly urbanized rivers affected by water diversion. And the article contained the following:

Little information is available on the bioaccumulation and trophic transfer of pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs) in urban rivers system, particularly for those affected by water transfer. Herein, a comprehensive study was conducted to investigate the biol. residues, bioaccumulation and trophic transfer of 45 PPCPs in the Nanjing Qinhuai River system under the background of water diversion projects. A total of 30 compounds were detected with a descending order of overall concentration as plankton > benthic mollusc > fish (except grass carp). Higher biol. residues were observed in the downstream than those in the upstream, with the largest increase for fish (136.4%) and the lowest increase for phytoplankton (5.4%). However, the bioaccumulation classifications of most PPCPs were unchanged among the three different water-diversion regions. Trophic magnification factors (TMFs) of organic UV filters (homosalate, oxybenzone, ethylhexyl methoxycinnamate and octocrylene) ranged from 1.23 to 2.04, suggesting trophic magnification potential, while trophic dilution for pharmaceuticals (sertraline, citalopram, caffeine and roxithromycin) with TMFs of 0.42 to 0.50 were observed A notable pos. correlation was observed between the pH-dependent distribution coefficient (logDow) and the TMFs of the PPCPs (P < 0.05). Although the human health hazard assessment indicated no immediate health risk via the consumption of freshwater food, attention should be paid to the joint effects of PPCPs. On July 31, 2022, Yang, Yang; Ako-Adounvo, Ann-Marie; Wang, Jiang; Coelho, Sergio G.; Adah, Steven A.; Matta, Murali K.; Strauss, David; Michele, Theresa M.; Wang, Jian; Faustino, Patrick J.; O’Connor, Thomas; Ashraf, Muhammad published an article.Formula: C24H27NO2 The title of the article was In Vitro Testing of Sunscreens for Dermal Absorption: Method Comparison and Rank Order Correlation with In Vivo Absorption. And the article contained the following:

Evaluating the dermal absorption of sunscreen UV filters requires the development of a bio-predictable in vitro permeation test (IVPT). This work describes the comparison of two IVPT methods and rank order correlations of in vitro absorption (skin permeation and retention) with the in vivo absorption (AUC and skin retention) of sunscreens. The IVPT was compared regarding the following elements: (1) application of a single finite dose vs. an infinite dose and (2) the use of heat-separated human epidermis vs. dermatomed skin models. The IVPT was used to evaluate dermal absorption of six UV filters (avobenzone, homosalate, octinoxate, octisalate, octocrylene, and oxybenzone) in com. sunscreens. Both the in vivo and in vitro permeation studies demonstrated that all UV filters were absorbed following a single-dose application. Sunscreens were rank ordered by the amount of the UV filters absorbed. Data obtained from the IVPT method using a single finite dose and heat-separated human epidermis was found to correlate with the clin. data. Rank orders of the cumulative in vitro skin permeation and the in vivo AUC were found comparable for oxybenzone, homosalate, octisalate, and octinoxate. Rank orders of the in vitro and in vivo skin retention of oxybenzone and octinoxate were also comparable. Addnl. IVPT parameters may be optimized to enhance the discriminatory power for UV filters with low skin permeation potential (e.g., avobenzone and octocrylene). And the article contained the following:

Abstract: A sensitive method was developed and validated for the determination of UV filters (oxybenzone, octocrylene, 4-methyl-benzylidene camphor, 2-ethylhexyl-4-methoxycinnamate and avobenzone) in tilapia muscle using matrix solid-phase dispersion followed by online solid-phase extraction-liquid chromatog./UV. The validation showed good linearity from 100 to 3600 ng g-1 with r2 values > 0.98. Precision values with relative standard deviations were < 24% for all analytes. The accuracy was evaluated with the recovery of spiked muscle samples, and it ranged between 89 and 96% for most analytes, except 2-ethylhexyl-4-methoxycinnamate. A pos. matrix effect was observed for oxybenzone, so a matrix-matched calibration curve was used for quantitation purposes. This methodol. was applied to incurred samples of fish exposed to the analytes for 3 days (100μg L-1 each). Residual quantities of the contaminants were measured after 24, 48 and 72 h of exposure, and concentrations ranged between 400 and 2900 ng g-1. The developed method was able to quantify all of the target compounds at trace levels. A Quick, Easy, Cheap, Effective, Rugged and Safe (QuEChERS) methodol. followed by gas chromatog.-tandem mass spectrometry (GC-MS/MS) anal. was developed to extract thirteen synthetic musk compounds (SMCs: cashmeran, celestolide, phantolide, traseolide, galaxolide, tonalide, musk ambrette, musk xylene, musk ketone, musk tibetene, musk moskene, ethylene brassylate and exaltolide) and six UV-filters (UVFs: 2-ethylhexyl 4-dimethylaminobenzoate, 3-(4′-methylbenzylidene) camphor, 2-ethylhexyl 4-methoxycinnamate, 2-ethylhexyl 2-cyano-3,3-diphenylacrylate, benzophenone and drometrizole trisiloxane) from tomatoes. The proposed methodol. was optimized: 2 g of freeze-dried tomato was extracted with 4 mL of water and 10 mL of Et acetate, adding 6 g of MgSO4 and 1.5 g of NaCl, then a dispersive solid-phase extraction was performed using 3 g of MgSO4, 300 mg of primary-secondary amino adsorbent (PSA) and 300 mg of octadecyl-silica (C18). Validation delivered recoveries between 81 (celestolide) and 119% (musk tibetene), with relative standard deviations <10%. The instrumental limit of detection varied from 0.02 (2-ethylhexyl 4-methoxycinnamate) to 3.00 pg (exaltolide and musk xylene). Regarding the method quantification limits, it ranged between 0.4 (celestolide) and 47.9 ng g-1 dw (exaltolide). The method was applied to different varieties of tomatoes (Solanum lycopersicum), revealing UVFs and SMCs between 1 and 210 ng g-1 dw. Higher concentrations were found for benzophenone (29-210 ng g-1 dw) and galaxolide (9-53 ng g-1 dw). The risk associated to the ingestion of contaminated tomatoes has also been estimated, showing that a potential health risk is unlikely. On January 1, 2020, Benjatikul, Kitkanya; Mahamongkol, Hansa; Wongtrakul, Paveena published an article.Reference of 2-Ethylhexyl 2-cyano-3,3-diphenylacrylate The title of the article was Sunscreen properties of marl. And the article contained the following:

The physicochem. and sunscreen properties of marl as a function of particle size were investigated. The research findings established that the marl under investigation consisted of more than 95% calcium carbonate (CaCO3). The particles of marl inspected under a scanning electron microscope were calcite, which is the stable polymorph of CaCO3, with a rhombohedral structure. The particle size classification by the sieving method showed that grinding using a ball mill could downsize the marl particles by 2 to 3 times, reaching below 15μm on average Marl particles showed a tendency to reflect UV A (UVA) rays rather than UVB rays and a possibility to steadily absorb both UVAII and UVAI. Finer particles obtained after a longer grinding process demonstrated higher efficacy regarding UV reflection and absorption properties. The 3 weight% marl displayed a sun protection factor (SPF) value of 1 to 2. However, marl demonstrated a good ability to protect against radiation over a broad spectrum range with a critical wavelength above 370 nm. The addition of marl in the formulation containing avobenzone and octinoxate had a pos. synergistic effect because the marl was able to increase the UV absorbance efficacy (based on the area under the curve (AUC) value) and SPF value of the cream. Furthermore, it was also discovered that the added marl powder could slow the decrease in UV protection efficacy of the products in terms of the AUC calculated from the absorbance profile after exposure to simulated UV rays with an amplitude range of 10 J/cm2 to 40 J/cm2 for 30 min, which was similar to the results obtained from octocrylene and bemotrizinol. Aigotti, Riccardo; Giannone, Nicola; Asteggiano, Alberto; Mecarelli, Enrica; Dal Bello, Federica; Medana, Claudio published an article in 2022, the title of the article was Release of Selected Non-Intentionally Added Substances (NIAS) from PET Food Contact Materials: A New Online SPE-UHPLC-MS/MS Multiresidue Method.HPLC of Formula: 6197-30-4 And the article contains the following content:

Food contact materials (FCMs) are an underestimated source of food chem. contaminants and a potentially relevant route of human exposure to chems. that are harmful to the endocrine system. Foods and water are the main sources of exposure due to contact with the packaging materials, often of polymeric nature. European Regulation 10/2011 requires migration tests on FCMs and foodstuffs to evaluate the presence of listed substances (authorized monomers and additives) and non-intentionally added substances (NIAS) not listed in the regulation and not subjected to restrictions. The tests are required to ensure the compliance of packaging materials for the contained foods. NIAS are a heterogeneous group of substances classified with a potential estrogenic or androgenic activity. Subsequently, the evaluation of the presence of these mols. in foods and water is significant. Here we present an online SPE/UHPLC-tandem MS method to quantify trace levels of NIAS in food simulants (A: aqueous 3% acetic acid; B: aqueous 20% ethanol) contained in PET preformed bottles. The use of online SPE reduces systemic errors thanks to the automation of the technique. For the developed anal. method, we evaluate the limit of detection (LOD), the limit of quantitation (LOQ), selectivity, RSD% and BIAS% for LLOQ for a total of twelve NIAS, including monomers, antioxidants, UV-filters and additives. LOD ranged between 0.002 μg/L for bisphenol S and 13.6 μg/L for 2,6-di-tert-butyl-4-methylphenol (BHT). LOQs are comprised between 0.01 μg/L for bisphenol S and 42.2 μg/L for BHT. The online-SPE/UHPLC-tandem MS method is applied to the food simulants contained in several types of PET packaging materials to evaluate the migration of the selected NIAS. The results show the presence (μg/L) of NIAS in the tested samples, underlining the need for a new regulation for these potentially toxic mols. On April 19, 2021, Downs, C. A.; DiNardo, Joseph C.; Stien, Didier; Rodrigues, Alice M. S.; Lebaron, Philippe published an article.SDS of cas: 6197-30-4 The title of the article was Benzophenone Accumulates over Time from the Degradation of Octocrylene in Commercial Sunscreen Products. And the article contained the following:

Benzophenone is a mutagen, carcinogen, and endocrine disruptor. Its presence in food products or food packaging is banned in the United States. Under California Proposition 65, there is no safe harbor for benzophenone in any personal care products, including sunscreens, anti-aging creams, and moisturizers. The purpose of this study was to determine (1) if benzophenone was present in a wide variety of com. sun protection factor (SPF)/sunscreen products, (2) whether benzophenone concentration in the product increased over time, and (3) if the degradation of octocrylene was the likely source for benzophenone contamination. Benzophenone concentration was assayed in nine com. sunscreen products from the European Union and eight from the United States (in triplicate), including two single ingredient sources of octocrylene. These same SPF items were subjected to the United States Food and Drug Administration (U.S. FDA)-accelerated stability aging protocol for 6 wk. Benzophenone was measured in the accelerated-aged products. Sixteen octocrylene-containing product lines that were recently purchased had an average concentration of 39 mg/kg benzophenone, ranging from 6 mg/kg to 186 mg/kg. Benzophenone was not detectable in the product that did not contain octocrylene. After subjecting the 17 products to the U.S. FDA-accelerated stability method, the 16 octocrylene-containing products had an average concentration of 75 mg/kg, ranging from 9.8 mg/kg to 435 mg/kg. Benzophenone was not detectable in the product that did not contain octocrylene. Benzophenone was detected in the pure octocrylene manufactured ingredient. Octocrylene generates benzophenone through a retro-aldol condensation. In vivo, up to 70% of the benzophenone in these sunscreen products may be absorbed through the skin. U.S. FDA has established a zero tolerance for benzophenone as a food additive. In the United States, there were 2999 SPF products containing octocrylene in 2019. The safety of octocrylene as a benzophenone generator in SPF or any consumer products should be expeditiously reviewed by regulatory agencies. And the article contained the following:

A review. Organic UV filter compounds are crucial components of sunscreen products, which are used to absorb UV radiation. However, the increase in consumption of UV filters has led to environmental concerns about their impacts on the environment and human health. This review found that the high lipophilicity and stability of UV filters can cause bioaccumulation leading to a wide range of adverse ecol. effects. UV filters′ concentration was detected in wastewater up to ppm, and their physicochem. characteristics such as the size of mol., pKa, hydrophobicity, and solubility significantly control their fate in the environment. Among UV filter compounds, benzophenone 3 (BP-3) and benzophenone 4 (BP-4) are the most common in wastewater. Various removal technologies for UV filters have recently been applied, including membrane separation, adsorption, advanced oxidation processes, and phytoremediation. Among them, hybrid treatment processes such as membrane bioreactors (MBRs) can remove UV filter compounds from wastewater with a removal efficiency of up to 96% (i.e., octocrylene and benzophenone-3). Future investigation should focus on developing green/eco-friendly sunscreens to reduce hazard impacts on human health and the environment. And the article contained the following:

Many household and personal care chems. (HPCCs) are of environmental concern due to their potential toxicity to humans and wildlife. However, few studies investigate the spatiotemporal variations and fate of HPCCs in large-scale river systems. Here, river water and sediment samples from the Songhua River in Northeast China were analyzed for seven classes of HPCCs. Correlation anal. suggested similar sources and environmental behavior for compounds from the same HPCC classes. In the river water, the concentrations of most HPCCs in the cold season were significantly higher than that of the warm season (p < 0.01). Significantly higher levels of target compounds were found in the downstream water samples of a city, suggesting the influence of human activities on the distributions of HPCCs. The concentrations and distributions of most HPCCs were controlled by primary emission sources. The derived dissolved concentrations of HPCCs suggested that small amounts of caffeine and parabens were partitioned onto particles, while large amounts of many other HPCCs were bound to the particle phase. Water-sediment distribution coefficients (log Kd) ranged from 1.59 for caffeine to 3.95 for benzalkonium chloride-C14. This work presents new insights into the environmental behavior of HPCCs and the factors affecting their fate in river systems.
