Phosphorus and metal removal combined with lipid production by the green microalga Desmodesmus sp.: An integrated approach was written by Rugnini, L.;Costa, G.;Congestri, R.;Antonaroli, S.;Sanita di Toppi, L.;Bruno, L.. And the article was included in Plant Physiology and Biochemistry in 2018.COA of Formula: C20H40O2 The following contents are mentioned in the article:

This work focused on the potential of Desmodesmus sp. to be employed for wastewater bioremediation and biodiesel production The green microalga was grown in a culture medium with a phosphorus (P) content of 4.55 mg L-1 simulating an industrial effluent; it was also exposed to a bimetal solution of copper (Cu) and nickel (Ni) for 2 days. P removal was between 94 and 100%. After 2 days of exposure to metals, 94% of Cu and 85% of Ni were removed by Desmodesmus sp. Adsorption tests showed that the green microalga was able to remove up to 90% of Cu and 43% of Ni in less than 30 min. The presence of metals decreased the lipid yield, but biodiesel quality from the biomass obtained from metal exposed samples was higher than that grown without metals. This result revealed that this technol. could offer a new alternative solution to environmental pollution and carbon-neutral fuel generation. In this work, 2 sep. experiments were performed to describe the influence of elevated temperature treatments postharvest on the color, physiochem. characteristics and aroma components of pineapple fruits during low-temperature seasons. The L* (lightness) values of the skin and pulp of pineapple fruits were decreased. The a* (greenness-redness) and b* (blueness-yellowness) values of the skin and pulp were all markedly increased. The elevated temperature significantly increased the contents of total soluble solids (TSS) and slightly affected contents of vitamin C (nonsignificant). Titratable acidity (TA) of pineapple fruits were notably decreased, whereas the values of TSS/TA of pineapple fruits were significantly increased. The firmness of the pineapple fruits decreased and more esters and alkenes were identified. The total relative contents of esters were increased, and the total relative contents of alkenes were decreased. Lipid extraction is an integral part of biodiesel production, as it facilitates the release of fatty acids from algal cells. To utilize thraustochytrids as a potential source for lipid production We evaluated the extraction efficiency of various solvents and solvent combinations for lipid extraction from Schizochytrium sp. S31 and Thraustochytrium sp. AMCQS5-5. The maximum lipid extraction yield was 22% using a chloroform:methanol ratio of 2:1. We compared various cell disruption methods to improve lipid extraction yields, including grinding with liquid nitrogen, bead vortexing, osmotic shock, water bath, sonication and shake mill. The highest lipid extraction yields were obtained using osmotic shock and 48.7% from Schizochytrium sp. S31 and 29.1% from Thraustochytrium sp. AMCQS5-5. Saturated and monounsaturated fatty acid contents were more than 60% in Schizochytrium sp. Alkylglycerols (AKGs) are bioactive natural compounds that vary by alkyl chain length and degree of unsaturation, and their absolute configuration is 2S. Three AKGs were synthesized in enantiomerically pure form, and were characterized for the 1st time together with 12 other known and naturally occurring AKGs. Their structures were established using 1H and 13C APT NMR with 2D-NMR, ESI-MS, or HRESI-MS and optical rotation data, and they were tested for their antibacterial and antibiofilm activities. Some AKGs showed activity against 5 clin. isolates and Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 15442, with MIC values in the range of 15-125μg/mL. In addition, at half of the MIC, most of the AKGs reduced Staphylococcus aureus biofilm formation in the range of 23-99% and P. aeruginosa ATCC 15442 biofilm formation in the range of 14-64%. In this study, microbes were isolated from the rice slurry of a fermented rice cake to obtain lactic acid bacteria and yeast species. These species were identified using microbial physiol. and gene sequence analyses. As the growth of the lactic acid bacterial strain R-2b and the yeast J-3a strains were found to be the best, a composite starter comprising these microbes was used for the preparation of fermented rice cakes. Based on single factor and orthogonal experiments, when the proportion of Lactobacillus plantarum, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, and Candida humilis was 1:3:6, the optimal fermentation conditions were addition of sugar and starter amounts of 20% and 6%, resp., a fermentation temperature of 32°C, and fermentation time of 8 h. The fermented rice cake with this optimum ratio had the most abundant volatile components and qualified physicochem. and microbial indexes. Many esters have the potential for conformational isomerism, but they tend to adopt an s-cis (or Z) conformation rather than the s-trans (or E) alternative, due to a combination of hyperconjugation and dipole minimization effects. The preference for the Z conformation is influenced by the nature of the substituents and solvent, if present. The acid value (AV) and peroxide value (POV), triobarbituric acid (TBA) value, carbonyl value, total acidity, moisture content, free fatty acid and fat during the production process of fermented Cantonese sausages were determined and their correlations were analyzed. The results showed that the AV, POV, TBA and carbonyl value increased as the production process proceeded. The contents of saturated fatty acids and free fatty acids were enhanced during the whole roasting process while the content of unsaturated fatty acids declined from 8 h onwards, which may be due to the continuous oxidation and hydrolysis of fat during the manufacturing process. In addition, pos. correlations among acid value, peroxide value, TBA, carbonyl value, total acid, moisture and fat content were observed POV was significantly correlated with total acidity. Therefore, rancidity degree and the degree of fat oxidation showed consistent trends during the manufacturing process. Present study includes the comparison of methods of external and internal standard for the estimation of parameters like linearity and precision in gas chromatog. anal. of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) with flame ionization detector at temperature 140°C – 280°C and using hydrogen as gas carrier. Linear dependence of the ratio of area of methylated DHA/area of Me nonadecanoate (internal standard) to the DHA concentration was obtained. There was no observed difference between the correlation coefficients for two methods (R2 = 0.9928). From the exptl. results, it is obvious that related standard deviation (RSD) for internal standard method is more than RSD for external standard method, which demonstrates that nonadecanoic acid is not a suitable internal standard The external standard method allows achievement of good linearity and precision and is appropriate for identification and determination of DHA and fatty acids in food supplements. In this study, microwave induced pyrolytic oil from sago bark (SB) was subjected to esterification to improve its properties. Improvement on properties of the pyrolytic oil was performed via esterification with ethanol and the presence of sulfuric acid as a catalyst. The optimum esterification condition was studied using general factorial design. The esterified oil (EO) showed improved properties with pH (4-6), reduced moisture content (2.95-3.45%), d. (0.9-1.1 g cm-3), and acid value (39.3-123.4 mg KOH-1 g-1), and maintained the CV (20.2-21.6 MJ kg-1). GC-MS anal. showed that EO was sulfur free, and low in carboxylic acid and oxygenated compounds The optimal esterification condition with optimum quality of EO was at 65°C temperature, 60 min reaction time and 1:1 ethanol to oil volume ratio. Results indicated that the EO can be potentially used in robust combustion engines upon properties refinement.
