Volcanic deposits affect soil nitrogen dynamics and fungal-bacterial dominance in temperate forests was written by Yokobe, Tomohiro;Hyodo, Fujio;Tokuchi, Naoko. Volcanic deposits increase soil organic carbon storage. However, little is known about the effect of volcanic deposits on forest soil nitrogen (N) dynamics and microbial communities. We explored gross and net N transformation rates and microbial community structure using a phospholipid fatty acid (PLFA) method across eight forests with soils derived from different parent material in Japan. Volcanic mineral soils had approx. three-fold greater total N and inorganic N contents and gross nitrification, ammonium immobilization, and nitrate immobilization rates that were one order of magnitude higher than in non-volcanic soils. Moreover, volcanic mineral soils had a 1.7-fold lower N turnover rate, which was estimated as net N mineralization rate per soil N. This was likely caused by a higher gross N immobilization rate, potentially due to the mineral traits of volcanic soils. Volcanic mineral soils had approx. four- and three-fold greater microbial biomass-N and bacterial PLFA contents, resp., and the fungal:bacterial PLFA ratio was lower in volcanic mineral soils than in non-volcanic soils. Microbial community structure, analyzed using non-metric multidimensional scaling, was distinct between volcanic and non-volcanic soils, and was significantly affected by soil characteristics. This study demonstrates that aside from soil carbon storage, volcanic deposits are related to increases in soil N immobilization, N content, bacterial biomass, and N transformation rates in forest ecosystems. Comparative volatile compounds and primary metabolites profiling of pitaya fruit peel after ozone treatment was written by Wu, Qixian;Zhang, Zhengke;Zhu, Hong;Li, Taotao;Zhu, Xiangrong;Gao, Huijun;Yun, Ze;Jiang, Yueming. And the article was included in Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture in 2019.Name: Methyl nonadecanoate The following contents are mentioned in the article:

BACKGROUND : Ozone treatment can effectively inhibit fruit decay in many fruits during postharvest storage. However, little information is available for pitaya fruit. RESULTS : Ozone treatment significantly reduced the decay rate and induced the enzyme activities of peroxidase and polyphenol oxidase, and also reduced the levels of reactive oxygen species. In total, 103 metabolites were detected and changed the content after ozone treatment, including 54 primary metabolites and 49 aromatic compounds After significance and importance anal., 37 metabolites were important. Some metabolites were induced by peel senescence to respond to senescence stress, including D-fructose, D-glucose, mannose, inositol, galactonic acid, ethanedioic acid and stearic acid. Some metabolic products of peel senescence were reduced by ozone treatment, including D-arabinose, glucaric acid, galacturonic acid, 1-hexanol, 4-ethylcyclohexanol, β-linalool, palmitoleic acid and 2-hydroxy-cyclopentadecanone. Some metabolites induced by ozone treatment might play a vital role in delaying the senescence and decay, including malic acid, succinic acid, pentenoic acid, eicosanoic acid, 2-hexenal, hexanal, 2-heptenal, 4-heptenal, 2-octenal and nitro m-xylene. CONCLUSION : Ozone treatment significantly reduced decay and prolonged shelf-life without reducing fruit quality. In total, 37 metabolites might play an important role in ozone delayed fruit decay. © 2018 Society of Chem. Industry. Methyl nonadecanoate (cas: 1731-94-8) belongs to esters. Esters are widespread in nature and are widely used in industry. In nature, fats are in general triesters derived from glycerol and fatty acids. Esters are responsible for the aroma of many fruits. Many esters have the potential for conformational isomerism, but they tend to adopt an s-cis (or Z) conformation rather than the s-trans (or E) alternative, due to a combination of hyperconjugation and dipole minimization effects. The preference for the Z conformation is influenced by the nature of the substituents and solvent, if present. Lactones with small rings are restricted to the s-trans (i.e. E) conformation due to their cyclic structure.Safety of Methyl nonadecanoate

Passiflora species have high industrial and medicinal relevance, due to presence of specific metabolites and their recognized pharmacol. activities. In vitro systems allow the modulation of secondary metabolites production according to culture conditions. In this work, we report the effect of different light emitting diodes (LED) on induction, metabolite production, and antioxidant properties of calluses derived from stem and leaf segments of P. setacea cv BRS Peŕola do Cerrado. Friable calluses were induced on MSM medium supplemented with picloram, under different light qualities (white fluorescent lamps or different types of LEDs) or in the dark. Light quality contributed more significantly for biomass accumulation than the other variables. Callus formation was observed in response to all treatments, although the highest biomass accumulation was induced by red LED. Chromatog. analyses indicated that blue LED induced the highest production of bioactive substances. All samples displayed low antioxidant potential by the DPPH assay, but showed a high capacity to chelate iron. The activity of antioxidant enzymes was also evaluated. The incubation under red LED caused an increase on the activity of superoxide dismutase, catalase and ascorbate peroxidase in calluses derived from internodal segments induced under red LED. This is the first study evaluating the effect of lighting conditions in in vitro systems of P. setacea cv BRS Peŕola do Cerrado, thus opening new possibilities of study and utilization. The anticoccidial influences of various amounts of Cinnamomum verum powder were compared with that of salinomycin as standard synthetic anticoccidial drug on the anticoccidial indicators and production performance in broilers exptl. exposed to coccidiosis. Broiler chicks at 1 d of age (n = 150) were arbitrarily distributed into 6 groups. Birds from groups 1-3 were received the starter and finisher diets plus 2, 4, and 6 g of cinnamon/kg of the diet, resp. Birds from group 4 were fed the starter and finisher diets plus 66 mg of salinomycin, group 5 constituted the pos. control (PC), with the coccidial challenge, and group 6 constituted the neg. control (NC), without the coccidial infection, which were both maintained on diets without any cinnamon. The results showed that BW gain, feed conversion ratio, and production efficiency factor declined considerably (P < 0.05) in the PC compared with the NC. At seventh day postinfection (DPI), the lesion score was significantly (P < 0.05) lower in the ceca of salinomycin-treated birds than the PC. The anticoccidial index was moderate in the chickens treated with salinomycin and 6 g cinnamon at 7 DPI compared with those in the PC group. In addition, cinnamon- or salinomycin-treated birds exhibited lower oocyst values and higher oocyst reduction rate than those in the PC. We concluded that C. verum at level 6 g cinnamon/kg diet moderately reduced coccidiosis and attempted to improved BW, feed conversion ratio, and production efficiency at 7 DPI compared with the infected groups. Incorporation of urea-derived 13C into microbial communities in four different agriculture soils was written by Wang, Juan;Thornton, Barry;Yao, Huaiying. And the article was included in Biology and Fertility of Soils in 2014.Reference of 1731-94-8 The following contents are mentioned in the article:

The objective of this study was to investigate changes in the composition of the soil microbial community brought about by urea application and differences in the incorporation of urea-derived C into the soil phospholipid fatty acid (PLFA) pool at differing soil pH. We selected four soils which ranged in pH from 3.9 to 7.8. 13C-labeled urea was applied at two concentrations 100 and 200 mg N kg-1 which represents commonly used and high levels of application. Significant hydrolysis of applied urea occurred within 2 h; less than 2 % of urea-C was retained in the soil with one exception, the fluvo-aquic soil at pH 7.8 amended with 200 mg kg-1 urea-N 3 days after urea application. According to principal component anal. (PCA), the effect of urea and incubation time on microbial community composition was far weaker than differences between the four soils due to their large differences in basic properties; the scores of PC2 were significantly correlated with pH values. The incorporation of 13C-urea to PLFAs increased with soil pH; this may be related to increases in the speciation of inorganic C into bicarbonate.13C label was primarily incorporated into 16:1ω5c, 16:0, and cy19:0 in red soil, pH 3.9; and into 16:1ω7c, 16:0, and 16:1ω5c in fluvo-aquic soil, pH 7.8. A wider range of PLFAs became labeled in the two paddy soils at pH 5.2 and 6.7. This suggests that the profile of PLFAs labeled from the application of 13C-urea may be affected by redox potential. Biodiesel from water hyacinth has shown to have poor oxidative stability due to the presence of significant amounts of unsaturated fatty acids. Most studies have been using synthetic antioxidants to improve oxidation stability of biodiesel but they are expensive and proved to be toxic at higher concentrations This study assessed the possibility of using natural antioxidants extracted from clove wastes and babul tree barks since they are cheap, easy to extract and locally available and blends of these with synthetic antioxidant such as 1,2,3-trihydroxybenzene (Pyrogallol, PY) in improving the oxidation stability of biodiesel. Non-edible water hyacinth collected from Lake Victoria Tanzania was used as feedstock for biodiesel production The biodiesel was analyzed for physicochem. properties and fatty acid composition Most of the physicochem. properties were within the acceptable limits for ASTM D6751 and EN 14214 except for oxidation stability which recorded 2.4 h and was below limits. Fatty acid anal. showed the presence of unsaturated fatty acids at 42% which contributed to the poor oxidation stability of the biodiesel. Clove waste and babul barks displayed significant total phenolic contents of 220.0 ± 0.1 and 48.0 ± 0.2 mg GAE/g, resp. Clove antioxidant displayed an improvement of 153% in oxidation stability at 1000 ppm while babul improved by 236% at 800 ppm. Nitrogen content reduction on scenedesmus obliquus biomass used to produce biocrude by hydrothermal liquefaction was written by Miranda, Alejandra M.;Ocampo, David;Vargas, Gabriel J.;Rios, Luis A.;Saez, Alex A.. And the article was included in Fuel in 2021.Quality Control of Methyl nonadecanoate The following contents are mentioned in the article:

The use of Microalgae biomass for biofuel production by hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL) has been proposed as an alternative to traditional fossil fuels. When comparing fossil fuels, Microalgae biocrude has a high nitrogen content, which is one of the challenges that affect this technol. This factor causes operational issues because it lowers the carbon fraction in the chem. composition, which reduces the calorific value and, as a result, raises NOx emissions during combustion. In this work, conditions were established for obtaining Microalgae biomass to allow the production of biocrude with low nitrogen content by HTL. The effect of the variation in nitrogen levels on the culture medium, on cell growth and nitrogen content, was evaluated in the final biomass for the Scenedesmus obliquus strain; at a laboratory scale, the best results (around 0.25 g/L NaNO3) were used at a bench scale with 20 L tubular photobioreactors (PBRs). The remaining biomass was processed through HTL then the resulting biocrude was characterized. The results show that as the nitrogen source in the culture medium increases, the percentage of nitrogen in the remaining biomass and the biocrude produced also increases. It was possible to establish a concentration of nitrogen source in the culture medium that promotes the accumulation of lipids, decreases the protein content in the final biomass and consequently, in the biocrude, without affecting production and yield, a critical factor to take into consideration when assessing the viability of the proposed process. In nature, fats are in general triesters derived from glycerol and fatty acids. Esters are responsible for the aroma of many fruits. Cyclic esters are called lactones, regardless of whether they are derived from an organic or inorganic acid. One example of an organic lactone is γ-valerolactone.Quality Control of Methyl nonadecanoate
