A new triazole-functionalized tetracarboxylic acid ligand (H4L) has been synthesized and utilized for the fabrication of a 3D Zn-II organic framework with a Zn-4(-COO)(6) cluster as the secondary building unit. The framework exhibits very good thermal stability and consists of dual functionalities of exposed Lewis acidic metal sites and accessible nitrogen-donor Lewis basic sites. The Lewis basic nitrogen sites in the framework serve as CO2 binding sites for highly selective CO2 capture and the presence of exposed Lewis acidic metal sites in the framework make it an efficient heterogeneous catalyst for the chemical fixation of CO2 into value-added cyclic carbonates under ambient conditions.

This report describes the synthesis of five new colorful 6-aryldibenzo[b,d]pyrylium cation salts, a largely unexplored structural unit. These rare compounds are benzannulated structural derivatives of the well-known flavylium cations found widespread in natural pigments. These new dyes are directly compared to three previously synthesized 6-aryldibenzo[b,d]pyrylium cation salts as well as eight colorful isomeric 9-aryldibenzo[b,d]pyrylium cation, or 9-arylxanthylium, salts. The 9-arylxanthylium unit is commonly found in the biologically important rhodamine and rosamine dyes, yet six of the analogs presented in this study were either previously unreported or not isolated. The visual and spectroscopic properties of all 16 compounds were analyzed as a function of the structural differences between the compounds. All compounds displayed reversible halochromism in organic solution, displaying bright colors under acidic conditions and becoming colorless under basic conditions. (C) 2020 Elsevier Ltd. Aims We sought to examine sex differences in congestion in patients hospitalized for acute heart failure (AHF). Understanding congestive patterns in women and men with AHF may provide insights into sex differences in the presentation and prognosis of AHF patients. Methods and results In a prospective, two-site study in adults hospitalized for AHF, four-zone lung ultrasound (LUS) was performed at the time of echocardiography at baseline (LUS1) and, in a subset, pre-discharge (LUS2). B-lines on LUS and echocardiographic images were analysed offline, blinded to clinical information and outcomes. Among 349 patients with LUS1 data (median age 74, 59% male, and 87% White), women had higher left ventricular ejection fraction (mean 43% vs. 36%, P < 0.001), higher tricuspid annular plane systolic excursion (mean 17 vs. 15 mm, P = 0.021), and higher measures of filling pressures (median E/e' 20 vs. 16, P < 0.001). B-line number on LUS1 (median 6 vs. 6, P = 0.69) and admission N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide levels (median 3932 vs. 3483 pg/ml, P = 0.77) were similar in women and men. In 121 patients with both LUS1 and LUS2 data, there was a similar and significant decrease in B-lines from baseline to discharge in both women and men. The risk of the composite 90 day outcome increased with higher B-line number on four-zone LUS2: unadjusted hazard ratio for each B-line tertile was 1.86 (95% confidence interval 1.08-3.20, P = 0.025) in women and 1.65 (95% confidence interval 1.03-2.64, P = 0.037) in men (interaction P = 0.72). Conclusions Among patients with AHF, echocardiographic markers differed between women and men at baseline, whereas B-line number on LUS did not. The dynamic changes in B-lines during a hospitalization for AHF were similar in women and men. Formula: C10H10O2. We report an inversed Arbuzov reaction of the fullerene derivatives C60Ar5Cl with trialkyl phosphites P(OR)(3) producing alkylated fullerene derivatives C60Ar5R (R = Me, Et, iPr, nBu) with almost quantitative yields. This reaction provides a convenient synthetic route for the preparation of a large variety of functionalized fullerene derivatives with tailored properties, e.g. water-soluble compounds demonstrating promising antiviral activities against HCMV, HSV1, HIV and several influenza virus strains.

Ovarian cancer is associated with a high percentage of recurrence of tumors and resistance to chemotherapy. Cancer stem cells (CSCs) are responsible for cancer progression, tumor recurrence, metastasis, and chemoresistance. Thus, developing CSC-targeting therapy is an urgent need in cancer research and clinical application. In an attempt to achieve potent and selective anti-CSC agents, a series of celastrol derivatives with cinnamamide chains were synthesized and evaluated for their anti-ovarian cancer activities. Most of the compounds exhibited stronger antiproliferative activity than celastrol, and celastrol derivative 7g with a 3,4,5-trimethoxycinnamamide side chain was found to be the most potent antiproliferative agent against ovarian cancer cells with an IC50 value of 0.6 mu M. Additionally, compound 7g significantly inhibited the colony formation ability and reduced the number of tumor spheres. Furthermore, compound 7g decreased the percentage of CD44(+), CD133(+) and ALDH(+) cells. Thus, compound 7g is a promising anti-CSC agent and could serve as a candidate for the development of new antiovarian cancer drugs. (C) 2019 Elsevier Masson SAS. All rights reserved.

Comprehension in hemicellulose pyrolysis is critical to generate renewable fuel and valuable chemical. Herein, a self-designed tubular reactor was applied to observe the appearance alteration and chemical structure evolution during the whole xylan pyrolysis process. Before 200 degrees C, it was free moisture removal stage without significant chemical structure alteration. Xylan began to depolymerize at 200 degrees C corresponding with the appearance change from its original state to dark brown, cleavage of branched-chain and primary product acids & ketones generation. The main chain of xylan was completely broken at 250-350 degrees C via beta-1,4-glycosidic bond cleavage, dehydration, decarboxylation, and decarbonylation reaction. Acids were mainly originated from hemicellulose pyrolysis. The typical signals from FTIR,C-13 CP/MAS NMR were disappeared at 350 degrees C. In the carbonation stage, the C/H and C/O ratio reached 2.01 and 4.54, leading to the aromaticity enhancement of char and formation of carbon-centered radicals.

A visible light mediated oxidative lactonization of 2-methyl-1,1′-biaryls was developed, giving benzocoumarins in good yields. The antigen-antibody interaction determines the sensitivity and specificity of competitive immunoassay for hapten detection. In this paper, the specificity of a monoclonal antibody against alternariol-like compounds was evaluated through indirect competitive ELISA. The results showed that the antibody had cross-reactivity with 33 compounds with the binding affinity (expressed by IC50) ranging from 9.4 ng/mL to 12.0 mu g/mL. All the 33 compounds contained a common moiety and similar substituents. To understand how this common moiety and substituents affected the recognition ability of the antibody, a three-dimensional quantitative structure-activity relationship (3D-QSAR) between the antibody and the 33 alternariol-like compounds was constructed using comparative molecular field analysis (CoMFA) and comparative molecular similarity indices analysis (CoMSIA) methods. The q(2) values of the CoMFA and CoMSIA models were 0.785 and 0.782, respectively, and the r(2) values were 0.911 and 0.988, respectively, indicating that the models had good predictive ability. The results of 3D-QSAR showed that the most important factor affecting antibody recognition was the hydrogen bond mainly formed by the hydroxyl group of alternariol, followed by the hydrophobic force mainly formed by the methyl group. This study provides a reference for the design of new hapten and the mechanisms for antibody recognition.

The condensation of MeP(SiMe3)(2) with a series of 5-substituted isophthaloyl chlorides (5-R’C6H3-2,6-{C(O)Cl}(2)) affords the diphosphametacyclophanes m-{-C(O)-C6H3-5-R’-(C(O)PMe)}(2) (R’ = I, Me, tBu, Ph, and p-NCC6H4); the analogues m-{-C(O)-C5H3N-(C(O)PMe)}(2) and m-{-C(O)-C6H4-(C(O)PPh)}(2) are similarly obtained in preference to higher oligomers, in contrast to precedent reports. The cyclophanes all adopt butterfly-like conformations in the solid state with the P-organyl substituents adopting mutually exo arrangements. Structural and computational data suggest the nature of the 5-R substituent is key in directing the inter-ring angle and the extent of LUMO stabilization about the diketophophanyl scaffold. The latter is substantiated by UV/vis spectroscopy and cyclic voltammetry, which demonstrate these cyclophanes to be appreciably comparable to the diketophosphanyl systems commonly explored in the context of organic electronic materials; intriguingly, the distinct dikeophosphanyl moieties within the macrocycles appear effectively insulated by the macrocycle geometry, rather than acting as a through-conjugate.
