1,2,3-Triazoles and aminomethylpyrazoles were prepared by 1,3-cycloaddition of azides with α,β-unsaturated esters organocatalyzed by N-heterocyclic carbenes, formed in situ from imidazolium and 1,2,4-triazolium salts. NHC-catalyzed cycloadduct formation of α,β-unsaturated esters with azides has been developed. This strategy could generate 1,2,3-triazoles and dihydropyrazoles with high yields and regioselectivities in the presence of an N-heterocyclic carbene catalyst. The broad substrate scope and mechanistic survey of this process are also presented.
