New sex attractants were found for some of the species recorded, e.g. Calybites aurogutella, Phyllonorycter mespilellus, Coleophora palliatella, Teleoides decorella, Oegoconia quadripuncta, Cydia gemmiferana, C. succedana, Eana derivana, Dichrorampha incursana, Spatalistis bifasciana, Zeiraphera isertana, Zygaena scabiosae. Chronic orchard pests such as Cydia pomonella, C. funebrana and Anarsia lineatella were abundant in pheromone traps located on uncultivated habitats. Catches of Apotomis infida, Cnephasia oxyacanthana, Cydia gemmiferana, Eana derivana and Pammene albugiana are remarkable, showing that pheromone traps can be used successfully as a complementary method in faunistics.

Adipic acid is the most important of the com. available aliphatic dicarboxylic acids. It is obtained industrially from cyclohexanone and/or cyclohexanol by oxidation with nitric acid(V). One of the byproducts of the process is nitrous oxide, which is difficult to utilize. In this paper we propose an alternative method of adipic acid synthesis. In the first stage, cyclohexene is oxidized with hydrogen peroxide to epoxide, which hydrolyzes to 1,2-cyclohexanediol that in the second stage is then oxidized with oxygen. From an environmental point of view, this two-stage method can offer a significant and attractive reduction of N2O production compared to the industrial methods. We apply a simple catalytic system composed of transition metal compounds and HNO3 or organic nitrites, to the second stage of adipic acid synthesis synthesis, namely 1,2-cyclohexenediol oxidation using oxygen.

Myotonic Dystrophy type 1 (DM1) is an incurable neuromuscular disorder caused by toxic DMPK transcripts that carry CUG repeat expansions in the 3′ untranslated region (3′UTR). The intrinsic complexity and lack of crystallog. data makes noncoding RNA regions challenging targets to study in the field of drug discovery. In DM1, toxic transcripts tend to stall in the nuclei forming complex inclusion bodies called foci and sequester many essential alternative splicing factors such as Muscleblind-like 1 (MBNL1). Most DM1 phenotypic features stem from the reduced availability of free MBNL1 and therefore many therapeutic efforts are focused on recovering its normal activity. For that purpose, herein we present pyrido[2,3-d]pyrimidin-7-(8H)-ones, a privileged scaffold showing remarkable biol. activity against many targets involved in human disorders including cancer and viral diseases. Their combination with a flexible linker meets the requirements to stabilize DM1 toxic transcripts, and therefore, enabling the release of MBNL1. Then, the chem. and mol. composition of sustainable HVMAs were investigated using Fourier transform IR spectroscopy test, XPS test, and gel permeation chromatog. test. Afterwards, the nano-indentation test was used to study the nanomech. property of sustainable HVMAs. Finally, the dynamic shear rheol. test and linear amplitude sweep test were applied to evaluate the aging resistance, crack resistance, and fatigue resistance of sustainable HVMAs. The results show that environmental aging leads to the rapid oxidation of asphalt mols. and substantial degradation of polymer mols. in HVMA, as evidenced by the transformation of carbon elements from C-C/C-H bonds to C-O/C=O bonds and sulfur elements from C-S-C bonds to S=O/O=S=O bonds. A single anti-aging agent has a little aging inhibition effect, while the compounding of multiple anti-aging agents has a synergistic anti-aging enhancement effect. The combination of UV absorbers and UV blocking agents can absorb/reflect some of the UV rays and delay the UV aging process. However, they cannot effectively prevent the binding of UV-excited reactive radicals with oxygen. In contrast, incorporating antioxidants can allow hydrogen atoms to combine with UV-excited reactive radicals and prevent further oxidation of asphalt mols. The compound incorporation of UV absorbers, UV blocking agents, and antioxidants can improve the rheol. property, crack resistance, and fatigue resistance of aged HVMA, thus effectively promoting the sustainable and long-life application of HVMA.

The self-assembly behavior and photo-responsive properties of novel azobenzene based copolymers poly(ethylene oxide) monomethyl ether-block-polystyrene-block-{poly[6-(4-methoxy-azobenzene-4′-oxy)hexyl methacrylate]}2 [MPEO-b-PS-b-(PMMAZO)2] with various block lengths of PMMAZO segments in aqueous media were studied by means of transmission electron microscopy (TEM), SEM, laser light scattering (LLS) and UV-Vis spectrophotometry. It was found that the critical water content for the aggregate formation increases with the PMMAZO weight fraction. By tailoring the mol. structure and copolymer concentration, various self-assembled aggregates were obtained. At a lower concentration, all the copolymers self-assembled into simple vesicles. With increasing the polymer concentration, large compound vesicles were formed. The photo-sensitive properties of the formed aggregates were also studied. Upon irradiation with a polarized light, the aggregates were elongated. Large compound vesicles were found to deform into compact spindles with a very large axial ratio.

In current study, UV-visible spectrometry (UV-Vis) and ultra-performance liquid chromatog. quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (UPLC-Q-TOF-MS) were used to provide spectral and mass fingerprinting for polyethylene (PE). Coupling with chemometrics, two methods were developed to discriminate recycled and virgin PE. UV-Vis combined with chemometrics could be a more accessible, simpler and faster approach. 237-331 nm in UV spectrum was regarded as marker region selected by orthogonal partial least-squares discrimination anal. (OPLS-DA) and the accuracy of both calibration and validation set could reach 100% in linear discrimination anal. (LDA) based on this region. Besides, 2314 ions were detected by UPLC-Q-TOF-MS and processed by MS-DIAL. 48 candidate chems. were identified, including ketone, esters, carboxylic acid, alcs. and phenols, amine, nitriles, aldehydes and others. Possible origins of these compounds could be classified as plastic, food, drug, cosmetics and pesticide related. Many of these compounds are highly toxic, especially pesticide related, indicating that recycling in closed loop or sorting by the recycled plastic articles is very necessary if the recycled PE is going to be used as food contact material.

Di-Me itaconate (DI) is a membrane-permeable itaconate derivative with anti-inflammatory functions. However, the anti-inflammatory effect of DI has never been studied in fungal keratitis. In this study, we tested the protective effect of DI against fungal keratitis and assessed the role of Nrf2/HO-1 signaling in this process. Eyes of C57BL/6 (B6) mice were treated with 2 mm DI after infection with Aspergillus fumigatus. HCECs were pretreated with 0.25 mm DI and then incubated with A. fumigatus. Clin. scoring, slit-lamp photog., myeloperoxidase determination, flow cytometry and immunostaining were used to assess the disease response and treatment efficacy. PCR, Western blot and ELISA were used to assess the expression of IL-1β, chemokine (C-X-C motif) ligand 1, IL-6, IL-8, Nrf2 and HO-1. In addition, quantification of viable fungi, absorbance assays and fluorimetry were used to measure DI fungistatic activity. We observed that DI-treated eyes showed decreased clin. scores, fungal loads, PMN infiltration and cytokine expression, compared with phosphate-buffered saline-treated infected eyes. Moreover, DI treatment increased Nrf2 and HO-1 expression in corneas and nuclear Nrf2 accumulation in HCECs. Finally, DI treatment reduced the A. fumigatus absorbance and fungal mass. These data indicate that DI protects against fungal keratitis by limiting inflammation via the Nrf2/HO-1 signaling pathway and that DI inhibits the growth of A. fumigatus.
