Groups of 10 aspirin- and 5 sulfasalazine-like drugs were tested as inhibitors of prostaglandin synthesis and breakdown. The aspirin-like drugs exhibited selectivity against formation but also inhibited breakdown at higher doses. The sulfasalazine-like drugs exhibited selectivity against breakdown and some, but not all, inhibited formation at higher doses.
