Benzyl N,N-diethyldithiocarbamate (BDC) was synthesized. The results showed the degree of replacement reaction increased with the advance of time and temperature in reaction. BDC as iniferter in the photopolymerization of styrene and Me methacrylate was investigated. The conversion of styrene or Me methacrylate increased with the increasing photopolymerizing time in nonlinear mode and ambient temperature The viscosity-viscosity average mol. weight of PMMA and polystyrene increased linearly with the conversion and the polymer had broad mol. weight distribution. The photopolymerization for preparing styrene-Me methacrylate block copolymer with BDC as iniferter was “living” radical polymerization
