A one-pot procedure for deprotecting carboxylic esters such as ArC(O)OR [Ar = Ph, 2-HOC6H4, 4-BrC6H4, etc.; R = Me, Bn, iPr, t-But] using aluminum and iodine under nonhydrolytic conditions was described.
