By using the reduced Schiff base tricarboxylate ligand H(3)cip, one novel 3D Cd-based coordination polymer (Cd-CP) with the formula [Cd(Hcip)(bpea)(0.5)(H2O)](n) (H(3)cip = 5-(3-carboxybenzylamino)isophthalic acid, bpea = 1,2-bis(4-pyridyl)ethane) has been solvothermally synthesized. The prepared Cd-CP possesses a 4-connected CdSO4 net based on dinuclear {Cd-2} units. Luminescence measurements revealed that the complex exhibited ratiometric turn-on luminescence responses toward Al3+ and Cr3+ with a significant color change, which could be easily distinguished by the naked eye under ultraviolet light. Cd-CP can also respond to Fe3+ through a turn-off mechanism. Interestingly, the luminescence quenched by Fe3+@Cd-CP can be recovered and increased significantly by adding some competitive Al3+, while Cr3+ can only marginally increase the luminescence intensity of Fe3+@Cd-CP. Moreover, the detection of the three aforementioned metal ions can be realized by using Cd-CP-coated test papers, extending the potential application regions of the reported material to point-of-care tests and environmental field studies.

By combining N-chlorosuccinimide (NCS)” as the safe chlorine source with Acr(+)-Mes as the photocatalyst, we successfully achieved benzylic C-H bond chlorination under visible light irradiation. Furthermore, benzylic chlorides could be converted to benzylic ethers smoothly in a one-pot manner by adding sodium methoxide. This mild and scalable chlorination method worked effectively for diverse toluene derivatives, especially for electron-deficient substrates. Careful mechanistic studies supported that NCS provided a hydrogen abstractor N-centered succinimidyl radical, which was responsible for the cleavage of the benzylic C-H bond, relying on the reducing ability of Acr(center dot)-Mes.

Guillermo Calleja and co-workers from @urjc describe URJC-1-MOF as a new heterogeneous recyclable catalyst for c-heteroatom coupling reactions The capacity of copper-based URJC-1-MOF as a MOF catalyst in cross-coupling reactions has been evaluated, focusing on the Chan-Lam-Evans arylation-type reactions on amines and alcohols without extra additives or ligands. The extraordinary chemical and structural stability of URJC-1-MOF and its good specific surface, make this material a promising alternative to homogeneous Cu (II) catalysts for cross-coupling reactions. URJC-1-MOF showed a remarkable catalytic activity for cross-coupling C-N and C-O reactions, higher than other heterogeneous and homogeneous copper-based catalyst, such as CuO, HKUST-1, Cu-MOF-74, Cu(OAc)(2) and CuSO4.5H(2)O. Moreover, its easy recovery by simple filtration and reusability in successive runs without any loss of activity and stability, demonstrates the potential of URJC-1-MOF as an alternative catalyst for this kind of reactions in different chemical media of industrial interest.

Hydroalkoxycarbonylation of olefins has been considered to be one of the most attractive methods to synthesize esters. Controlling the regioselectivities of linear esters (L) and branched esters (B) is a challenging project for researchers working in this reaction. Although most of the attention has been paid to control the regioselectivity through ligand design in homogeneous catalytic systems, study in the area is still limited. Herein, Ru-clusters/CeO2 is employed as a heterogeneous catalyst for the hydromethoxycarbonylation of styrene without any additives. After optimization of the reaction conditions, the conversion of styrene is > 99% with 83% and 12% regioselectivity of linear and branched ester, respectively. By using different supports (CeO2 (nanoparticle), CeO2-rod, and CeO2-cube), three catalysts including Ru-clusters/CeO2, Ru/CeO2-rod, and Ru/CeO2-cube are prepared and applied in the reaction. Structural characterizations demonstrate that the L/B ratio is related to the Ru size of supported Ru catalysts. Further Raman characterization and NH3-TPD demonstrate that the metal-support interaction and the concentration of oxygen vacancy of the catalyst have a great influence on the Ru size. Disubstituted pendant-functionalized block copolymer consisting of insulating polynorbornene and conductive polyacetylene segments was synthesized by tandem metathesis polymerization, and displayed high dielectric constant of 30 and low dielectric loss of about 0.04, while behaved bad film-forming property, which could be improved by incorporating polycyclooctene into polynorbomene backbone. The generated flexible block copolymer with well-defined nanostructure exhibited a relatively high dielectric constant of 23, very low dielectric loss of below 0.0035, and high stored and released energy densities up to 4.52 and 4.02 J cm(-3) at the electric field of 165 MV m(-1),respectively, accompanied with the charge-discharge efficiency of 90%. The enhanced dielectric and energy storage capability were attributed to high permanent dipole moment and the interfacial polarization derived from the unique nanomorphology of block copolymer.

Treatment of 2-arylbenzoic acids with N-chlorosuccinimide (NCS) and NaI at 70 degrees C under fluorescent lighting condition gave the corresponding 3,4-benzocoumarins in good yields under transition-metal-free condition. It was found that the reactivity of NCS with NaI for the formation of 3,4-benzocoumarins from 2-arylbenzoic acids was as high as that with NIS. Thus, the formation of carboxyl radicals and their cyclization onto an aromatic ring from 2-arylbenzoic acids with much less expensive NCS and NaI, than NIS could be successfully carried out to form 3,4-benzocoumarins.

Comprehension in hemicellulose pyrolysis is critical to generate renewable fuel and valuable chemical. Herein, a self-designed tubular reactor was applied to observe the appearance alteration and chemical structure evolution during the whole xylan pyrolysis process. Before 200 degrees C, it was free moisture removal stage without significant chemical structure alteration. Xylan began to depolymerize at 200 degrees C corresponding with the appearance change from its original state to dark brown, cleavage of branched-chain and primary product acids & ketones generation. The main chain of xylan was completely broken at 250-350 degrees C via beta-1,4-glycosidic bond cleavage, dehydration, decarboxylation, and decarbonylation reaction. Acids were mainly originated from hemicellulose pyrolysis. The typical signals from FTIR,C-13 CP/MAS NMR were disappeared at 350 degrees C. In the carbonation stage, the C/H and C/O ratio reached 2.01 and 4.54, leading to the aromaticity enhancement of char and formation of carbon-centered radicals.

We report an inversed Arbuzov reaction of the fullerene derivatives C60Ar5Cl with trialkyl phosphites P(OR)(3) producing alkylated fullerene derivatives C60Ar5R (R = Me, Et, iPr, nBu) with almost quantitative yields. This reaction provides a convenient synthetic route for the preparation of a large variety of functionalized fullerene derivatives with tailored properties, e.g. water-soluble compounds demonstrating promising antiviral activities against HCMV, HSV1, HIV and several influenza virus strains.

Urea-2,2-dihydroperoxypropane (UDHPP)- a white crystalline solid oxidant which is formed when urea is recrystallized from dihydroperoxypropane- was applied as the terminal oxidant in several oxidative procedures namely epoxidation of alpha, beta-unsaturated ketones and alkenes, oxidation of sulfides to sulfoxides and sulfones, bayer-villeger reaction, bromination and iodation of aniline and phenol derivatives, oxidative esterification, oxidative amidation of aromatic aldehydes, thiocyanation of aromatic compounds, and oxidation of pyridines, oxidation of secondary, allylic and benzylic alcohols. All the approaches were carried out under mild conditions and short reaction times and afforded the corresponding products in high yields.
