Artemisia fragrans is an aromatic and perennial herb with green silver leaves and yellow flowers, widely distributed in Iran, Azerbaijan, Russia and Turkey. The plant and its essential oil (EO) are used in traditional medicine and have economic value. In this study, the composition, antibacterial and antioxidant activities of 16 A. fragrans essential oil samples collected from different habitats in Iran were analyzed. A total of 85 compounds were detected using GC-MS analysis, the major constituents being camphor (9.91-34.44 %), alpha-thujone (19.22-42.63 %) and 1,8-cineole (12.57-31.87 %). Davanone D, alpha-cadinol, verbenene, ortho-oci-men were detected in the analysis as the new components for this species and are first reported by us. Anti-bacterial activity and minimum inhibitory and bactericidal concentrations of EOs were tested on Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumonia and Proteus vulgaris (Gram-negative strains) Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococ-cus epidermidis and Bacillus subtilis (Gram-positive strains). The EOs showed better inhibitory effects against Gram-negative strains compared to Gram-positive ones. Among the EOs, E7 (IC50 = 9.1 mu g/mL) population showed the highest radical scavenging capacity, which was equal to the positive control (butylated hyroxytoluene). The quantitative and qualitative variability of the studied EOs and their antibacterial and antioxidant activities may be recommended for pharmacological and cosmetic industries.

The Rh-catalyzed direct carboxylation of alkenyl C-H bonds was achieved by using pyrazole as a removable directing group. In the presence of 5 mol% RhCl3 . 3H(2)O, 6 mol% P(Mes)(3), and 2 equiv. of AlMe2(OMe), the alkenyl C-H bond of various alkenylpyrazoles was directly carboxylated in good yields under CO2 atmosphere. Disubstituted pendant-functionalized block copolymer consisting of insulating polynorbornene and conductive polyacetylene segments was synthesized by tandem metathesis polymerization, and displayed high dielectric constant of 30 and low dielectric loss of about 0.04, while behaved bad film-forming property, which could be improved by incorporating polycyclooctene into polynorbomene backbone. The generated flexible block copolymer with well-defined nanostructure exhibited a relatively high dielectric constant of 23, very low dielectric loss of below 0.0035, and high stored and released energy densities up to 4.52 and 4.02 J cm(-3) at the electric field of 165 MV m(-1),respectively, accompanied with the charge-discharge efficiency of 90%. The enhanced dielectric and energy storage capability were attributed to high permanent dipole moment and the interfacial polarization derived from the unique nanomorphology of block copolymer.

The current study evaluated the key characters of aroma composition in diversified red wines (Cinsaut, Grenache, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Nielluccio, Tempranillo, Syrah, Merlot and Caladoc). Out of hundreds of volatile compounds 64 compounds were considered for study. Different groups consisting of fatty acids, volatile alcohols, aldehydes, esters, volatile phenols and terpenes were analysed using gas chromatography mass spectrometry coupled with thermal desorption (TD-GC-MS). Among all these diversified classes, alcohols were found as the most dominant group followed by esters and acids whereas aldehydes, phenols and terpenes were found to be minor compounds. Among the varieties, Nielluccio wine recorded highest concentration of total volatile compounds (191.53 mg/L) while, it was least in Caladoc wines (15.45 mg/L). The principal component analysis clearly differentiated Grenache wines based on their relationships between scores and their aroma composition followed by Nielluccio and Cinsuat wines. Out of sixty four compounds, only six aromatic compounds viz. butanediol, isoamyl actate, gamma-Terpene, butanol, acetic acid and furfural have satisfying aroma descriptors with floral and fruity nuances and contribute to differentiate the Grenache wines from other varieties which have similar scores in PC1 analysis. The cluster analysis also suggested that the wines in the same group (Cinsaut, Tempranillo and Syrah), (Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Caladoc and Merlot) and (Nielluccio and Petit Verdot) had similar aroma characterization. Grenache wines were well differentiated from the sub group formed by other red varieties.

Lipid migration is widespread in food system and has an important effect on food quality. It is urgent to explore the lipid migration in egg yolk after heating. The content of lipids in upper part (HL) was higher than that in bottom part (LL), and the lipids migration in yolk gel under heating were confirmed by MRI (T1) and T2 relaxation time of LF-NMR. Subsequently, the XDR result demonstrated the high lipid content induced the decrease in crystallinity of protein in HL part. The structures of HL part trend to be more ordered, stable (beta-sheet & beta-turns) and flat (alpha-helices) than LL part, also, more water distributed in LL part were observed by FTIR spectrum. The SEM results revealed that lipids migrated from LL to HL part, eventually lead to the protein in HL part of heated yolk gel unfold, the globular structure collapsed and become flatter. Morever, ethyl acetate, hexanal, etc. and hexanal, ethyl acetate, dimethyl-silanediol, etc. were identified as the main VOCs of LL and HL part of heated yolk gel, respectively. Lipid migration result in more lipid-specific volatiles were formed in the HL part, such as hexanal, 3-hydroxy-cyclohexanone, 2-pentyl-furan, D-limonene, 2-ethyl-1-hexanol, benzeneacetaldehyde. Amino acid derivatives undergo non-Kolbe electrolysis to afford enantiomerically enriched alpha-alkoxyamino derivatives through intermediate chiral carbenium ions. The products contain N,O-acetals which are important structural motifs found in bioactive natural products. The reaction is performed in a continuous flow electrochemical reactor coupled to a 2D-HPLC for immediate online analysis. This allowed a fast screening of temperature, electrode material, current, flow-rate and concentration in a DoE approach. The combination with online HPLC demonstrates that also stereoselective reactions can benefit from a hugely accelerated optimisation by combining flow electrochemistry with multidimensional analysis.
