The residue was taken up in EtOAc (30 mL), washed with water (20 mL x 2) and brine (20 mL), dried over Mg504 and concentrated. The residue was purified by flash column chromatography (10percent ethyl acetate in petroleum ether, Rf = 0.6) to afford methyl 2-methyl-4-(4,4,5 ,5-tetramethyl- 1,3 ,2-dioxaborolan-2-yl)benzoate (400 mg, 66.4percent yield) as a yellow oil.
