Ethyl 3,4-diaminobenzoate (25.0 g, 0.139 mol) was dissolved in THF (280 ml_). Triethylamine (23.2 ml_, 0.166 mol) and B0C2O (33.3 g, 0.153 mol, 1.1 eq) were added. The solvent was removed under vacuum and the crude solid triturated in hot diethyl ether/petrol 40-60 (5:95, 500 ml_), filtered, washed with petrol 40-60 (100 ml.) and dried under high vacuum to yield the product as a light brown solid (34.8 g, 89.5%). 1H NMR (400 MHz, chloroform-d) d 7.83 (d, J = 1.9 Hz, 1 H), 7.72 (dd, J = 8.4, 2.0 Hz, 1 H), 6.73 (d, J = 8.4 Hz, 1 H), 6.15 (s, 1 H), 4.30 (q, J = 7.1 Hz, 3H), 4.26 (s, 2H), 1.50 (s, 10H), (0482) 1.35 (t, J = 7.2 Hz, 4H).
